Expert: Israel planning a multi-story building at Western Wall

In This Issue

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- The Israeli authorities are planning to build a multi-story building inside the Western Wall plaza in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem, a Palestinian academic told Ma’an on Wednesday. Dr. Jamal Amr, a professor of urban planning at Birzeit University and Jerusalem Foundation member, said that the six-story building would celebrate the heritage of the Jewish Temples, and would comprise a museum, prayer halls, and offices for right-wing Jewish organizations. The organizations are funding the project together with the Israeli government, Amr said, although his claims could not be verified.

Israeli settlers set fire to Palestinian park in WB

West Bank –Israeli Jewish settlers used on Tuesday at dawn molotov cocktails, attempting to set fire to a public park in northern West Bank village of Qaryut. Local Palestinian sources told said that a number of settlers arrived in three vehicles at 2 am and threw several molotov cocktails at the park before fleeing the scene. Palestinian youths spotted them and tried to chase them, but they sped away. They immediately extinguished the fire. No casualties were reported. Residents of the nearby village of Beita said that settlers tried to carry out a separate attack there, but locals noticed them and managed to undermine the attack. Settler violence has come under international scrutiny in recent days following a deadly attack on the village of Duma on July 31 that killed an 18-month-old Palestinian toddler and his father. The crime sparked international outrage, although many Palestinians have pointed out that settler attacks are common and often go unpunished by the Israeli authorities. Israeli settlers have carried out at least 126 attacks on Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem and West Bank since the start of this year, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Only 1.9 percent of complaints submitted by Palestinians against Israeli settler attacks result in a conviction, the Israeli human rights group Yesh Din reported. Days ofpalestine 12-8-2015

The Jordanian Government charged the Israeli government of full responsibility for any offensive practices against the Aqsa Mosque. The spokesman of the Jordanian Government and Minister of Media Affairs Mohammad al-Moumni said any attempt to storm the Aqsa Mosque or entering it by Israelis including excavation works are illegal and aggressive actions against Islamic holy places and Muslims’ feelings in general. He stressed that Jordan is exerting every possible effort to maintain and protect Islamic holy sites, referring to the Jordanian patronage over the holy sites and to the agreement signed by King Abdulla the Second and the Palestinian President in this regard. He underlined that the Jordanian commitment in this regard is declared and is not subject to understandings with any party when it comes to discretion of Islamic holy places. He said the guards of the Aqsa Mosque are doing their duties in confronting the Israelis’ incursions into the Mosque and that the Jordanian government is working on increasing their numbers and qualifying them to be able to implement their noble tasks. Israeli Police Demolishes Building in Jerusalem

Israeli police Tuesday demolished a three-storey commercial building in the Atarot Industrial Zone, to the north of Jerusalem, according to local sources. Witnesses told WAFA that an Israeli police force accompanied by heavy machinery broke into the area at about 5am, and demolished the building, which is owned by the Abu-Diab family, under the pretext of construction without permission. The building is located in Area C, under complete Israeli jurisdiction. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), between December 30, 2014 and January 12, 2015, the Israeli authorities demolished 27 Palestinian structures in Area C of the West Bank and five in East Jerusalem, in addition to two self demolition incidents, due to lack of Israeli-issued building permits. The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) affirmed that the Israeli authorities do not only demolish Palestinian homes, but also hinder the issuance of any building licenses for Palestinians in Jerusalem and its boundaries. Israel frequently utilizes the lack of construction permits as a pretext for demolishing Palestinian houses. Although Palestinians in East Jerusalem are living in a part of the internationally recognized Palestinian Territory that has been under Israeli military occupation since 1967, they are denied citizenship and classified only as ‘residents’ whose permits can be revoked if they move away from the city. They are also discriminated against in all aspects of life including housing, employment and services, and remain unable to access services in the West Bank due to the construction of Israel’s separation wall. Mother of Ali Dawabsha›s Health Deteriorating, Possible Brain Death

(Press TV/Al Ray) Riham Dawabsha who was herself injured, and also lost her husband as a result of the attack, was put on a respirator at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center, also known as Tel HaShomer Hospital, in the occupied Palestinian territories on Monday, Arabic-language Akhbaar 24 news website reported on Tuesday. The decision to put her on a respirator came after her general health condition deteriorated, and some of her organs stopped functioning, according to the report. Some doctors and medical officials have also suggested that she might be brain dead. Her 32-year-old husband, Sa’ad Dawabsha, died at a medical center early Saturday. He had been left with second-degree burns over more than 80 percent of his body following the late July firebombing, which killed his son. On July 31, a large fire broke out after extremist Israeli settlers threw firebombs and Molotov cocktails into two Palestinian houses – including that of the Dawabsha – in the town of Douma, located 25 kilometers (15 miles) southeast of Nablus. The incident sparked outrage from Palestinians, including political and resistance groups. United-Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon censured the arson attack as a “terrorist act,” calling for the perpetrators to be promptly brought to justice. “Continued failures to effectively address impunity for repeated acts of [Israeli] settler violence have led to another horrific incident involving the death of an innocent life. This must end,” Ban’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement. Israeli settlers have in recent years carried out various attacks, including arson attacks, on Palestinian property in the West Bank and al-Quds (Jerusalem). memo 12/8/2015 Issue No 74 // 12 August , 2015

Israeli Police Deny Access to Al Aqsa for Women and Children

WAFA correspondence said that a scufe broke out when the police denied a crowd of women and children access to the Mosque. The worshipers, women and children, chanted religious slogans against the police to show their anger. Police arrested a woman and a minor during the clash. Last month, dozens of worshipers were injured during clashes with Israeli police private units, after they broke into the holy site and severely assaulted worshipers. The clashes saw Israeli police private units throw rubber-coated metal bullets at the defenseless worshipers, which caused tens of suffocation cases by teargas inhalation. In the midst of these attacks on July 29, the Israeli minister of agriculture, Uri Ariel from the Jewish Home right-wing party has provocatively broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque, heavily guarded, in coordination with the ministry of interior. The site has witnessed recurrent clashes in recent years between Muslim worshipers and Israeli police, most frequently due to provocative visits by Jewish extremists who believe the mosque should be destroyed and replaced with a Jewish temple.
