branding

janice (chi) leung ILLUSTRATOR, TRAVELLER, AMATEUR PANCAKE MAKER

I decided to take a simple approach to brand myself; “chi” started off as a joke (it’s actually only 1/3 of my full Chinese name), but I felt like it was short yet memorable, so I decided to incorporate it into my visual identity. The logo is used as my profile picture for all my professional accounts to maintain consistency; I also wanted the logo to represent the my illustration style: black, bold lines, with a hint of surrealness. The one liner description below my name is included on my business card and Instagram account; I feel like it accurately describes who I am (a traveller), what I do (illustrator), and the last bit was written to keep it fun and hopefully memorable.

website/portfolio

Since my work is digital based, I decided to keep my portfolio digital as well. My website contains all my most recent works (professional and personal projects), and is updated once a month. My iPad has also been proven to be a good alternative to a physical portfolio, as clients are able to zoom in and out of detailed illustrations; it also allows them to interact with my work, plays an important role within my illustrations as my work encourages the audience to observe the details.

social media / online presence: The Dots / Instagram

The Dots is also an extension of my website, it includes all the work on my website, but would probably gain more exposure as The Dots works like social media.

I consider my Instagram account a “real time portfolio”, an extension of my website where I post images of what I am currently working on, and personal work that I don’t include on my website.

printed material

The mailer would be in the format of a brochure, where it would be opened up to reveal a panoramic print. The front would include my CV, and I would leave the back blank to include handwritten messages. Business cards would show segments of my illustrations, which hopefully would pique one’s curiosity to visit my website.
