Ratan Tata An Inspiration Queen confers Knight Grand Cross on Ratan Tata CEO Forum and the British Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Group. As Chairman of Tata Sons, UK benefited from significant inward investment from Tata companies. Tata are now the largest manufacturing employer in the UK. The KBE is one of the highest honours given by the British queen to civilians. It commonly appears on the Diplomatic Service and Overseas list but can also be given to Britons based abroad or in an honorary capacity to foreign nationals. Tata successfully guided one of India’s oldest business empires through rough seas.
I am deeply touched and feel greatly honoured to receive the recognition so graciously bestowed on me by Her Majesty the Queen of England.
R
atan Tata on 10th April 2014, became the first Indian to be awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE) since India became a Republic in 1950. British high commissioner to India, Sir James Bevan conducted the honours for Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons. The high commissioner presented Tata with the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE) on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. UK said recently “Tata has been awarded an honorary GBE, one of the highest civilian honours conferred by the UK, in recognition of his services to UK/India relations, inward investment to the UK and philanthropy”. Speaking after the ceremony, Sir James said “Ratan Tata’s leadership, vision and integrity will remain the gold standard for generations of aspirational British and Indian business people. His contribution to the deep ties that exist between the UK and India has been invaluable”. Queen Elizabeth II conferred on Tata the honorary award of Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 2009. Tata is a member of the UK-India

The former chairman of Tata group - under whose leadership the group’s revenues grew to around Rs 475,721 crore in 2011-12 from Rs 10,000 crore in 1991 retired on Dec 2012 after a 50-year run at the helm. Cyrus Mistry took over as the new chairman. The Tata group is highly popular in UK. Iconic British car brands Jaguar and Land Rover became part of the Tata group in 2008. The company employs over 16,000 people at its manufacturing facilities in the UK, including 3,500 engineers at its two product development centres. Around 78% of Land Rovers are exported to 169 countries, while Jaguar exports 70% of its products to 63 countries around the world. Tata Limited was established in London in 1907 to be Tata group’s representative in Europe. Tata companies have operations and a 60,000-strong workforce spread across Europe Tata’s association with UK academia also dates back to the establishment of the Sir Ratan Tata Department at the London School of Economics. Subsequently called the Department of Social Sciences, it was set up to research the causes of poverty. Its first lecturer, Clement Attlee, went on to become the British prime minister who gave India its independence and also set up the British National Health Service. Tata has maintained close links with the London School of Economics through a research collaboration with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
In 1920, the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge moved to its current Trumpington Street site thanks to a donation from Sir Dorabji Tata, an alumnus of the institution. Tata International Social Entrepreneurship Scheme (ISES) began in 2008 as a twomonth social internship programme for international students from the University of California, Berkeley, USA, and the University of Cambridge, UK. In 2010, the London School of Economics joined hands with Tata ISES to enable its students to be part of the programme. The students are selected for an eightweek summer internship at different Tata community initiatives in India. Tata said “I am deeply touched and feel greatly honoured to receive the recognition so graciously bestowed on me by Her Majesty. It has been a privilege to endeavour to have our enterprises
contribute positively to the growth and standing of the United Kingdom. I am also deeply appreciative of the support we have always received personally from David Cameron and his government, through good and bad times. This support and faith have been of immeasurable value throughout”.
Indeed a great honour for a most gracious and honourable man ... No one could have deserved this more ...
He added “But none of what we have been able to achieve could ever have been possible without the unflinching trust, commitment and dedication of the people within our enterprises in the UK. I admittedly have been most closely associated with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) where I have witnessed at close quarters the tremendous leadership and the impressive spirit of the workforce working together to achieve the goal we have set - ‘to restore these two venerable English brands to their earlier glory’. To all these wonderful people I owe my most grateful thanks”.
Inspirational Quotes - Ratan Tata None can destroy iron, but its own rust can! Likewise none can destroy a person, but its own mindset can!
All of us do not have equal talent, Yet, all of us have an equal opportunity to develop our Talents.
Ups and downs in life are very important to keep us going, because a straight line even in an ECG means we are not alive.
I don’t believe in taking right decisions. I take decisions and then make them right. So always believe in your ability and efforts.

Musings on Avan Yazad Parab Avan Yazad Parab – is the day of prayers to Avan, the divinity presiding over water.
A
van Yazad Parab – is the day of prayers to Avan, the divinity presiding over water. It is said that each day and month of the Zoroastrian Calendar is dedicated to the divine being who either presides over the natural creation or a human attribute. When the day and month dedicated to the particular divine being coincides it is celebrated as “Parab” or a festive day by Zoroastrians. ‘Ardvi Sura, is the Yazad (Angel) of the waters. She is also described as ‘Anahita’, meaning undefiled, unpolluted or untainted. It is also the name of a mythological river in Iran. Her home is in the starry regions. One of the five Nyashes and one of the longest Yashts is dedicated to her. Also the 65th chapter of the Yasna is dedicated to her. The tenth day of each month and the eighth month of the year are dedicated to her. She is of noble origin, courageous, strong, beautiful and glorious. Her duty on this earth is to guard Ahura Mazda’s holy creations. Several beings have supplicated and sacrificed unto her for various boons, including victory in battle and sovereignty of nations, health of the body, wisdom of the mind and riches.

Youth Speak Let's read what the second generation Zoroastrians have to say about their feelings of growing up in the Gulf region, away from their motherland.
Zoran Saher
T
hey say ‘good upbringing is like a priceless jewel. You don’t realize its value until others compliment you for it.’ And how better could I describe Oman, than famously calling it as the Gulf’s best kept secret. Weather it’s the pristine beaches, the serene mountains, or the gorgeous landscape all across Muscat city, Oman exhibits natural beauty like no other. Looking back at my life, I don’t think there’s been a more significant ingredient than my upbringing in the Middle East, in making me the person that I am today. Having lived in Oman for 18 extraordinary years, has given me the ability to be a part of a culture, which caters itself in providing one with the best possible comforts and luxuries of life. However, being privileged to receive premium education all throughout my schooling years in Muscat, constructively diversified my outlook towards society, as those profound experiences gave me the courage to differentiate between ‘passion’ and the ‘determination to succeed’. Having been taught the importance of morals & humility at an early age, allowed me to perceive every obstacle as an opportunity, in every phase of my life thereafter.

aving stayed in Dubai since the time I was three, I have seen this country grow and develop at every turn. From my formative years growing up in Sharjah to now, working in Dubai, this nation has provided me with opportunities time and time again. It has molded me in to the person I am now. I would consider Dubai my first home, having spent more time here than in my motherland, India. There are some certain distinct things here that can’t be replicated any place else. There was always a safe environment while growing up, something that isn’t always available everywhere. I have seen Dubai’s glittering skyline build up over the years and if that isn’t symbolic of Dubai’s rise in the world, I don’t know what is.
Kaizad Masalawala
D
ubai babies- that’s what they call us eh? I could barely just walk when my parents moved here, and since then this was all we knew. Yes, Mumbai will always be there, but my roots have developed here. As I grew, Dubai grew around me too. The city is a far cry from what it was growing up, and I have fond memories from the yesteryears! Having been to an ‘O’ Level school and a CBSE school, I feel it was advantageous that I was exposed to both ways of learning. It’s great that you have such a variety of curricula to choose from. There was no dearth in the range of extra-curricular activities, and more so even now. But the likes of cricket, drama, swimming, table tennis, satiated my needs. Some real lasting friendships sprung from these great years too! I also believe it was wonderful growing up having active community members bringing us together ever so often. Dubai being as multicultural as it is gave me an opportunity to live life without blinkers on – to understand and appreciate different people and cultures and being tolerant towards them. I was fortunate to have an aviation school here which gave me a good start to a career I wanted to pursue. Like any other place, realistically, there are pitfalls, but it’s all about taking it in your stride, isn’t it? A place like Dubai has its arms outstretched to help and guide one – it’s all about stretching out yours and letting it guide you…
Avan Edibam Living in Dubai has been a dream come true… My mom always said that Dubai is truly the ‘Best of both worlds’ where East meets West. Although I spent my entire life outside India, my mother never let me lose touch with my roots. In Dubai, parents can pick and choose from a plethora of children development centers. From arts and drama to mastering a musical instrument, from ballet to mastering every kind of sport, from do it yourself activities to the latest gaming and technology platforms. I learnt how to play musical instruments, won Gold medals in Ice Skating competitions and being a part of the lovely Zoroastrian community in Dubai, we were able to organize and participate in plays, talent competitions, dances and shows. I owe the success of my career solely to my parents, who pushed me to study and work at the same time. By the time I had graduated from the American University in Dubai with majors in Computer Systems Management, I had also completed 4 years of Software engineering and programming with NIIT and was well versed in Oracle and a host of languages such as XML, Java, etc. I also managed to work full time in a law firm during my final 3 years in University. You could see Dubai emphasizing a great deal on developing its youth, with no exceptions between the expats and locals. Not only did opportunities present themselves but we as expats were given the means to grab and maximize them. As a result I was headhunted by Emirates Airlines even before I graduated, and so began my career in the Aviation and Airline Industry. Today, I work as the Head of Business Development for a Global airline solutions provider – ISA. I’m confident that with Dubai winning the Expo2020, many other opportunities will be presented for talented professionals to grab them and change their lives! During this journey, I met and married a wonderful, honest, intelligent man who I share two adorable twin sons with. The quality of life, excellent education, financial security and my new family, all this would not have been possible in India. As I recount all the great experiences I’ve had in my life, the great people I’ve met or the fairytale life I’ve led, I am in awe and pure gratitude to my parents, but mostly thankful that we were able to live it, in this magical kingdom called, Dubai!

Dr. Nozer Bamboat
Firoze Jal Vandrewalla
A devout Zoroastrian, Dr. Nozer Bamboat believes in the trinity of “Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Deeds” that symbolise the purest essence of life. This trinity to a large extent helped Dr. Nozer in shaping his ideals. He is known for his giving nature and has balanced the wheel of fortune with an astute business mind and a generosity of spirit.
We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, selfdiscipline, and hard work. Firoze Vandrewalla is one fine example of all these virtues wrapped into one.
Dr. Nozer’s grandfather (Late Dr. Ratansha D. Bamboat); his uncle (Dr. Khurshid R. Bamboat) and his father (Dr. Minoo R. Bamboat) were all dentists, so dentistry runs in the family. This was a big factor that inspired young Nozer to dream of becoming a dentist someday. As a teenager he would assist his father in his practice even before he joined the dental college. With 22 years of experience and most being patient oriented practice in Dubai, Dr. Nozer has set up a modern private practice by the name of BAMBOAT DENTAL CLINIC that carries out all routine dental procedures and specializes in Implantolgy and Aesthetic dentistry. His business is a big legacy. It looks like there will be a 4th generation of dentists that will keep the family name riding high. Dr. Nozer is also an Honorary consulting dentist at The B.D.Petit Parsee General Hospital, Mumbai, India. His advice to youth is: “Remember, there are no mistakes in life; only lessons to be learnt, and struggle always evolves into strength.” Dr. Nozer Bamboat can be contacted at: Bamboat Dental Clinic, P.O.Box:215489, Dubai, U.A.E. It all began when Firoze made up his mind to use his Mechanical Engineering background and start his own small business to create new and innovative types of Shelving & Material Handling after 15 years of experience with Multi National companies such as Godrej, Khimji Ramdas and Al Serkal Shelves. Thus Al Mawakeb Trading Co. L.L.C. was born in 1997. It’s a Total Storage and Material Handling Solutions Provider. The company’s vision is to satisfy all the clients with appropriate Storage & Material Handling Solutions tailor-made for their requirements. Over the years there has been a steady growth in the client list of satisfied customers, all due to new and innovative products and lines being introduced every year to meet the philosophy of client satisfaction. The company goes by the brand name “WINGS” (giving flight to new ideas). It offers the best of solutions to clients in contrast to the general standard Shelving provided by others. From concept to completion the company works with clients to turn their vision into reality. As the CEO, Firoze travels a lot to meet up with suppliers and visit Exhibitions in USA, UK, Germany, India, Russia, China, so that he can introduce new concepts and ideas to the local community. He was the first to introduce Automated Drive-In System in the Middle East in 2005 with his first order of Pallet Runner. They now have more than a dozen machines working with special machines that run at -28°C in cold stores. His advice to youth is: “The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going so keep pursue your dreams and never give up.” Firoze Jal Vandrewalla can be contacted at: Al Mawakeb Trading Co. Jehangir Jal Sethna - Muscat “Life is like the ocean. It can be calm and still or rough and rigid but in the end, it is always beautiful.” The story of Jehangir Sethna is somewhat similar to this statement. It’s a story of grit and determination of a person who believes in the saying - “a clay pot sitting in the sun will always be a clay pot. It has to go through the white heat of the furnace to become porcelain.” Jehangir's professional life started by doing what is necessary, then the possible; and is now doing the impossible. He says, “When I take on a project, I believe in it 100%. I really put my soul into it. I will die for it. That’s how I am.” Born in 1957 in the city of Mumbai, Jehangir completed his Civil Engineering Degree from VJTI, in 1980 in Mumbai and soon thereafter came to Dubai and worked as a Project Engineer for two years. In 1982 Jehangir went to Oman and worked there for 18 years in major construction companies and finally resigned from his post as the Group General Manager. The decision to resign and to start on own with no financial support was a major change. The first seven years were quite challenging and required a lot of focus and hard work to meet the company’s objectives and goals and to also compete with other seasonal players in the market. But Jehangir whose gaze is always upward, looks inward, reaches outward and moves forward is a success story today. His Company incepted in 2001 is a prestigious company in the market. It competes with all tender board grades 1 construction companies and is currently aiming for joint venture projects with Indian companies who are listed on stock exchange as Oman infrastructural growth for the next decade is very promising and enormous. Regional News - Bahrain By – Manijeh Mistry
I
t was a beautiful evening – a little warm, but peaceful with the trees swaying in the gentle breeze. The atmosphere of peace and calm was gradually punctuated with “ aavo-ji, “kem cheo” and “hello-hi” as several families turned up on 23rd May 2013 to enjoy our little get-together. What a wonderful way to meet and enjoy, a Gambhar in the garden. In true Parsi style the highlight of the evening had to be FOOD! The aroma of mouth-watering home-made snacks and peals of excited laughter echoed throughout the park as everyone got into the spirit of the fun and games and attacked the food with gusto. We had some curious by-standers watching and enjoying the event almost as much as us. The celebration was all the more enjoyable as we welcomed back Mahabanoo after her long illness.
In November, Food packets were donated to needy laborers by the executive committee on behalf of BZA.
The month of December brought the families from Bahrain together for a picnic “Ramva Chalo Jee” at Asry Beach. All the young and not-so-young wanna-be Tendulkars and Dhonis were enjoying a game of cricket, while the not-so-athletic ones sat under the shady trees and chatted. Percy and Manijeh Mistry were congratulated on their daughter Friya’s recent wedding in Mumbai.
June brought sad news – the passing away of the last one of our founding members, Mr Esadvaster Bamji in Washington D.C., USA. On 18th August, Navroze was celebrated with dinner at the Terrace Garden Restaurant. The event involved a lot of fun, games and laughter and of course the usual singing of “Chhaiye Hamey Zarthoshti” which was emotionally moving.
In September we met at the Aramgah to offer prayers and flowers and light agarbattis at the graves as we paid respects to the departed souls on Farvardin Mahino Farvardin Roj. In October, a Jashan Ceremony was performed by Ervad Kaizad Sanjana, at Percy & Manijeh Mistry’s Villa. This was followed by masaala-ni chai and chasni and then the “Octoberfest” with chhantopaani and snack party on the lawn.

On 14th February, some of the executive committee members went and signed a document for peace and religious tolerance, a peace initiative undertaken by the Kanoo Cultural center. This was our small way to appreciate and show support for the ruling family and the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, for all the religious freedom we are offered in the country.
Our February meeting was an extended lunch at the Tropicana Hotel where we bid farewell to our long-serving VicePresident, Mr Tehmten Sherdiwala, and recognized his services to the community by awarding him a memento. Jesmeet and Smriti Doctor and Huma Vachha and Michael were congratulated in advance for the imminent addition to their respective families and for the to-be “vadhaaro” in the community. Cyrus and Mehru Vesuvala were congratulated on the forth-coming wedding of their daughter Sasha. Several members children were congratulated for their academic and other achievements.
Looks like our community members in Bahrain are cohesively prospering and doing well in preserving and sharing our beautiful Zoroastrian Religion and social commitments! Feroze and Freny Irani welcomed Zoroastrians in Muscut for a festive celebration of Navroze at their residence. Seen in the picture is Freny Irani near the Haft-Seen table
On 21st March, Jamshedi Navroze was celebrated with a sumptuous dinner at Caesar’s restaurant. 25th March, Ava Mahino Ava roj, brought us out to the Asry beach once more; this time it was to celebrate Ava Ardesur nu parab. All of us did our kasti and laid afloat in the sea, our traditional offerings of coconuts, flowers, rice, saaker and the “daar-ni-pori”. It goes without saying that we enjoyed the yummy daar-ni-poris as we chatted for a while. The AGM is scheduled on 2nd May.
Regional News - Doha By – Rumi Bhathena The whole of Friday 6th September 2013 was a very hot day but that did not put a damper to the ‘Curry Chawal Cachumbar’ Party that was attended by 76 members in a private hall in Doha. The high attendance was the biggest hit for QZC. The entire cooking was done in the kitchen of the sprawling villa of Rumi Manecksha. This event created a lot of enthusiasm and led to many more functions leading up to Jamshedi Navroze on 20th March 2014. Just like last year, the setting of Haft-Seen table took place at Rumi Manecksha residence. The splendour of the spread awed every guest.

WZCC - ME News News from the desk of WZCC - ME International Director, Roomi Sarkari
L
ast December was a significant month for all Zoroastrians worldwide as two important events took place in Mumbai. 1. The Global AGM of WZCC at the Taj – Land’s End Hotel, on 26th December, 2013. 2. The 10th World Zoroastrian Congress 27th to 30th December, 2013. WZCC Directors, Chapter Chairs and WZCC members /guests all congregated from around the world for the AGM at the Taj Lands End, a first-rate hotel, with beautiful grounds and great service. Interesting talks and panel discussions took place from morning to evening. The key note address was delivered by the Global President, Mr. Minoo Shroff. He said in today’s scenario there is a deceleration of employment and job opportunities are not that many. Hence the key to Success, especially for the youth is “Entrepreneurship”. He mentioned that although “funding” was available from various sectors e.g. “Venture Capital Scheme” of BPP; unfortunately there are very few takers. He then added that “WE” Women Entrepreneurs Wing, launched by WZCC about two years ago, has got off to a very good start. The Awards ceremony took place in the evening. The Chief guest, Mrs. Meera Sanyal spoke on how small scale business has developed in far-flung villages by people who earlier were simply written off. However, the most touching point was when she brought in the wisdom of Zoroastrian Religion in terms of the Avesta Prayers. The WZCC awards for 2013 were conferred on: Outstanding Professional of the year – Mr. Behruz Sethna from USA Outstanding Young Professional/ Entrepreneur of the year – Mr. Kobad Bhavnagri from Australia. The next GLOBAL AGM of WZCC will take place in Dubai on 18 December, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and will coincide with the mega event - Enterprise Dubai taking place from 19th to 21st December 2014.
16 Gavashni | June, 2014
The AGM will start at 2.00 p.m and will include interesting talks by leading personalities from around the world and a glittering WZCC Awards Ceremony. Sumptuous dinner will be served at the pool side. All WZCC members from Dubai are invited to attend the AGM and join for dinner if they have registered themselves for the Enterprise Dubai event. The dinner will be served on complimentary basis offering a chance to our local members to network with international members and share their knowledge on how Dubai will progress in the next seven years leading up to Expo 2020.
WZCC – ME organized a trip to Kenya The high point of the programs held last year, was the trip to Kenya by 21 members and their families from Dubai from 15th to 18th October, 2013. The trip was enjoyable and everyone returned with happy memories.
Message to Youth It was encouraging to see Firdaus Irani start his business last year. This gives a sense of hope and achievement to WZCC whose sole objective is to promote entrepreneurship. Hope the trend continues so that we see some more members becoming businessmen especially now that the economic scenario in Dubai is offering better opportunities with the announcement of the World Expo in 2020. Our WZCC members should examine their prospects and take advantage of this period and venture out on their own and set up businesses in various fields. Further, I urge our youth to take active part in ‘Enterprise Dubai’ event and extend their support to this once in a life time program that is being organized for the benefit of our community. In a way this program is a tribute to UAE's Ruling family and the country’s visionaries who have kept Dubai in the fore-front. The ‘Business Contest” is yet another program for people to turn their ideas into business and participate in the contest. I request all our members to take advantage of this contest which carries prize money of Rs.7 lacs sponsored by WZCC India. This contest is open to existing businessmen also if they wish to start a new product or service line. We all know - it takes a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction, but nothing ventured nothing gained !!!

Emirates Zoroastrian Youth (EZY)
The EZY Team is doing splendidly well. We bring you a special report from Urvaksh Tantra. has had a fruitful and entertaining past few months, hosting number of successful events. We kicked off by reviving an EoldZYafavourite community event, The Fancy Dress Competition. The event was open to contestants of all ages and loads of fun was had by a houseful crowd, entertained by lovely flower girls, cartoon characters and even the Pied Piper himself. Due to the lack of an image to represent us, we held a Facebook logo competition for our patrons. Several creative submissions were made and the winner was picked based on the number of Facebook “Likes” received. The winning logo is designed by Kaizad Pithawalla who was rewarded generously with a cash prize. This was followed by the EZY BBQ at Zabeel Park. It was the perfect way to bring in the winter season, as the Parsi youth spent an action packed day playing classic picnic games like Dog and the Bone and Tug of War. In the true spirit of supporting our committee, a scrumptious BBQ menu was served up by the Parsi owned Kebab Bistro restaurant. The turn of the year brought the much anticipated EZY Treasure Hunt. Once again, the event was open to the entire Parsi community and a strong attendance ensured a memorable time was had by all. Teams of 4 were put to the test as activities requiring physical prowess and mental fortitude were completed with precision and gusto in order to acquire the winning prize. The year continued creatively with our next event, EZY Kidz Art, aptly held during the Dubai Art Season. An art competition for children aged 3 - 18years that hopes to discover our very own Pesi Picasso and Claude Monaz. The competition was held at the newly opened Parsi owned Café Funkie Town at Jumeirah Lake Towers. Numerous events are in the pipeline for the rest of the year and we are confident this will be our most dynamic year yet!

Life’s lessons and Inspiration Short stories with a moral by - Jasmine Tavadia A Farmer and his Donkey
O
nce upon a time, a farmer’s donkey fell into a well that the farmer had accidentally left uncovered. The donkey brayed and brayed whilst the farmer tried to figure out how to get the animal out of the deep hole. However, the sides were too unstable to lower someone down with a rope to tie around the donkey, and as the donkey was panicky and thrashing about, he was concerned that he or one of his farm hands might get injured and stuck down the hole too.
as he tired and began to understand the hopelessness of his situation, he began to give up and become quiet. It was then that the donkey realized the dirt was a gift. With each scoop of dirt that fell into the well, the donkey shook off any that landed on it and then took a step up onto the top of the pile of dirt forming at the bottom of the well. More dirt, another shake and another step up.
Finally, the farmer decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up anyway, so it just wasn’t worth retrieving the donkey. He invited his neighbours to come and help with shoveling dirt into the well.
Several shovel loads later, the farmer and his neighbours looked down the well and were astonished at what they saw. The donkey was standing on top of all that dirt that had been dropped on it, looking right back at them. Pretty soon, the donkey simply stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off, much to everyone’s amazement.
As the animal felt the dirt falling, the donkey, being a donkey, kicked and kicked. When that didn’t seem to help, he brayed and brayed. He kicked up a fuss and made a terrible commotion, but no one came to help. The donkey cried, but
The message of this story is timeless, as many of us have found ourselves stuck in a situation that we just didn’t know to get through. The metaphorical dirt gets poured over our heads, and we can either get buried by the problems, or we can shake

the dirt to the ground and rise above the circumstances. We always have the choice to be victim or victor. So if it feels as if you are in that well with no chance of being freed, think of the donkey that refused to accept that his circumstances were beyond his control; he didn’t give up and he didn’t give in. Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not giving up.
Moral: Shake it off and take a step up!
A witty tale of Akbar & Birbal
O
ne day Emperor Akbar and Birbal were taking a walk in the palace gardens. It was a nice summer morning and there were plenty of crows happily playing around the pond. While watching the crows, a question came into Akbar’s mind. He wondered how many crows were there in his kingdom. Since Birbal was accompanying him, he asked Birbal this question. After a moment’s thought, Birbal replied, “There are ninety-five thousand four hundred and sixty-three crows in the Kingdom”. Amazed by his quick response, Akbar tried to test him again, “What if there are more crows than you answered?” Without hesitating Birbal replied, “If there are more crows than my answer is - some crows are visiting from other neighboring kingdoms”. “And what if there are less crows”, Akbar asked. “Then some crows from our kingdom have gone on holidays to other places”.
Moral: There is always a way if you think with ease.
