Editors Notice Board Welcome to the October 2014 issue of Your Child in Whittlesea! It is the final stint of 2014. As the last term of 2014 begins, we start the countdown to the end of another year. The approach of the festive season brings with it comes the financial pressures of celebration. We who live in a relatively wealthy society face the general societal expectations of this season. Added pressures to entertain family and friends, buy countless numbers of gifts, and to procure a vast array of traditional festive foods! At this time, I think it is important to remind ourselves of how blessed we really are. To cultivate an attitude of gratitude and not take our blessings for granted. Here are some thoughts by Stephen Eardley to help us keep our perspective. Happy Reading!

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who won't survive the week. If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 20 million people around the world. If you attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than almost three billion people in the world. If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy. If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not. If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read anything at all. EDITORIAL Whittlesea Show 1st & 2nd November 2014 A 'show for all the family' is what the society endeavours to deliver, and with a 155 year history, experience counts! This year's show will give visitors an opportunity to experience agriculture with cattle, horses, sheep, alpacas, rabbits, poultry, goats and farm & garden produce on display. The main arena will stage interactive games for children and a Grand Parade each day. The show also offers a multitude of e nte r ta i n m e nt , s h o w b a g s , a n interactive animal nursery, rides and Miss Whittlesea showgirl (Sunday). Baby changing facilities and an ATM is available plus plenty of shade and seating.
