Derivation of the Final Design Model
The Base Unit - A sphere that has been altered to make a sense of continuity Repetition - 3 layers Scaling - the central blob is bigger to the 2 at the side Rotation- continuos rotation (with the fin shape-- further devolpment will be done) Complex core- This effect will be done with the lighting method

Digitization of the model
Importing sections to Rhino.
The digitalization was not able to represent the desired shape of the model.
Some panelling of this poly surface

Digitization of the model
I used cage edit to form my model. Attaining a clean surface as compared to my previous method.
Rotation- I edited the directions before lofting the sections. Creating a spiral effect.
Considered boolien union of the 2 objects
I experimented many times before deriving with the desired form.

I then experimenteded with 2-D and 3-D pannelling on to the surface I created

Panneling option 1 (pattern creation) and problems faces
Emergence based on the natural pattern and together with the problems faced it shaped my base pattern. (triangulation) Further developments occurred when translating it to a 3-D pattern. - Did not have surface meeting each other -Twisting hence not developable
the images shows the gaps in the model

Panneling option 1 (pattern creation) and problems faces
Curvature analysisTesting to see if the surface is curved.
Panneling solutions
- Simplify the number of coordinates (prevent the software in crashing) -Triangulating the base pattern.

Panneling option 1 exploration
Difference in the number of points on the object surface
Testing with partition functions
- Base models (the module units created) - Curve attractor (to represents the rotation -spiral) - Custom 3-D variable.

Lighting sampling
Creation an sampling of the form.
Creation an sampling of the base unit. I can see from both paper models how the thickness of the paper deduces the amount of light passing through.

Theme
Ways to hold the lamp
The concept of my project is to create a light and show projection simulating a rift where it enable the lantern bearer to enter. The effect is where the central is brighter and peripheral is darker this is in line with the original concept of which there is a difference with complexity and simplicity for the lamp design in module Hence providing experience of entering into a new dimension.
1. The 2 fist at the edge where the central core is in the middle of both hands 2. Hold 2 palms and hold the center 3. The handling of 2 core
Conceptualizing the theme from the recipe Brighter region - Giving the sense of entering with the play of lights Complex core Where the ---> point attractors are located

Lighting effects
Offset boarder : 0.8 maximum cut 0.2 minimum cut Curve attractor: spiralling rotational movement in my recipe.
Orthographic Drawing
- For this case we can see a distinct difference in effects. The light is allowed to enter and pass through the lantern. - The level of complexity changes as it moves away from the center. - the variation provides a unique experience

Page 12
Panneling option 2 (pattern creation)
Complex core -Darker region with 2 layer Points: 20x20 Effect desired: an inverted funnel shape. (to repeat the idea of central and peripheral idea with the light effects) in this case would be a dark core and bright side.

Page 13
Panneling option 2 and problems faces Orthogrphic projections and lighting effects
I decided not to use this panelling option. because of the - light effects not meet (thickness of paper) (Deviating from envision) -difficulty in attaching parts due to the nature of the design. (distinct segments) However, One segment could be a design possibility for panelling
I also experimented with alot other designs of patterns.

Page 14
Panneling option 3 ( development from 1) Developing from my original panelling option I further developed a newer design. Considering the theme of entering a new dimension. Where things maybe warped. The concept of nature is also random hence I used a variable points to make my 3-d grid
In this design option I intend to use interference to create the effects of overlaying leaves (related to my nature ideation) What is in the design: 1. Base unit (the pattern in panel option 1) The hand gesture suggests how the lantern is a key to the new dimension
2. Repetition (3 layers) 3. Scaling (at the middle) 4. Continuous Rotation (seen in the radial pattern of the circular form)
Module 2 : Design Name: Tan Yee Ann Student No: 573608
5. Complex centre as compared to the peripheral zones (point attractor) 6. Theme of nature and entering [as an experiential idea] (interference of 3 Page 15 skins, entering-the shadow’s outcome)
Panneling option 3 ( development from 1) The design echoes 1. The recipe (form) 2. Theme of entering (conceptualized from the recipe) (shadow effect) 3. Desired outcome i have discussed in module 1 (must be both aesthetically pleasant with and with out light and show relation to the recipe.)(Desired shadowing effects)

Panneling option 3 ( development from 1) Light effects Different shadows are formed when the different layers interact. This is the example of the corner and how it looks like compared to the ones in This segment is the end hence when it moves toward the center the cuts will be bigger
