The dog house #2 Glance at detail

-wood framed -transparency glasses - Modern and simple -red & white colored wood to give contrast and fun to the original construction.

-Window reflecting the sky. -also nicely framed with the wood.

Reflection Strength: ●

Learned how to use basic functions

such as…. 1.

Be able to create flat square in custom size.

2.

Successfully used “push” function to give volume.

3.

Made out the windows by using “guide line” function.

4.

Used coloring bucket to put up colors on the elements.

5.

Bring out the component from the 3D Warehouse.

6.

Save the scene as 2D graphic to make it as jpg file in order to upload in the issuu.com

Explored the Sketchup.

Challenges: ●

It took a long time to figure out how to do guidelines and I need to work more on it to get better of using it.

I also need to work on color selection because I was not really good at designing and confused of what color would fit great.

Risk ● ● ● d-Dd dd dd

Took a lot of my times to work on it. confused of the axes. Almost lost during the lecture because my slow hands.

Week 2

Crazy cube arrays in space

Learning portfolio #2 9/25/2015

Rapid Visualization

Reflections Strengths: •

Successfully create cube, transformed it into a component, replicated multiple times to create this complex array.

Zoomed into the array, turned my shadows on, and place several human figures for scale to create a dramatic shot.

Challenges: •

I need to learn how to use rapid visualization techniques to hand draw something similar to what I produced in Sketchup.

“FOLLOW ME” AND STAIRS

Learning portfolio#3 August 27, 2015

“FOLLOW ME” DETAIL VIEW PLAN VIEW

Perspective view

Reflections Strength: •

Created the well balanced circle in the place where I wished and used the “follow me” button to make the object having a shape of circle.

On one successfully created object, drew another well balanced circle and created the line that I wanted to put and then I went straight forward to my “Follow me” button to create one more object that follows the circles.

Challenges: •

I will need to practice more on making another followed-object not just the circles and also on how I create the lines.

Risk -Too many buttons in the solid Tool bar that I had to find where the function I am looking for. -hesitated at the moment if I was doing right.

MAKING THE STAIRS DETAILS

PLAN VIEW IN PERSPECTIVE

PLAN VIEW

Reflection Strength: •

Size up and draw the rectangular on the ground to create base object for the stairs.

Copy and paste the same rectangular to be placed and formed a stair above on a first object

Risk

Learned to make a component and create multiple more same rectangular to be stairs.

Add more on it and create a better form model using rotation, colors etc.

Challenges: •

More effort on rotate the things and also prepare to create various forms of stairs later. And never lose the will to practicing hand drawing.

● ●

Rotate the stairs into the wrong way. Drove out my stairs underground.

Week 3

Floor Pattern

Learning Portfolio #4 9/1/2015

Stripe basic floor plan

Checkerboard floor plan

Latin style floor plan

polka dot floor plan #1

polka dot floor plan#2

oblique basic line floor plan

Reflection Strength:

No mistakes or problem in creating houses by using push function.

I used layer function to hide the front wall of the house and later the other houses to picture out one house.

I figured out how I should draw out patterns in the floor for I did not know how to use Sketchup yet.

I learned by myself how to create circles or dot patterns or even oblique patterns.

First animation ever and it looks great.

Challenges:

I have to become more creative to come up with different ideas except for all those things. Hand drawing is really good when it comes with putting out the ideas. So I will need to make sure to bring notebook anywhere to get the ideas. More times and efforts need for me to build a basic house. Be sure to know the sizes and construction.

Risk ● ●

Sometimes got a headache for figuring out the patterns. Getting so sensitive

REFLECTION Strength:

Learned to draw the circles and how it can create different shapes of all.

Remembered to show the processes.

I was able to set up many scenes for my animation and it became better than floor pattern animation because of practices and efforts.

Successfully made out 9 scenes and 9 layers.

Challenges:

More understanding on follow me skills and rotating. Since observation is really important when we do inspired work, I should be more careful on create and erasing the lines that I don’t need. With one stupid mistake I would be

DETAIL VIEW ONE BY ONE

One of the parts that inspired by Malevich

Changing of original form to make it fancier.

5’ deck to give more detail and transparency window in checkerboard form.

Reflection Strength: ● ● ● ●

Being able to use x-ray function to copy the lines of original work. Successfully added up more details such as in previous page. Learned how to use “divide” and made a transparent windows in checkerboard form. Bring out the background picture to give better look.

Challenges: ● ● ●

Perspective view with Half Moon bay background

I see my weakness in choosing of colors and it must be improved. Play with Sketchup more times to get done the detail work. The skills of placing trees and use of 3d warehouse model should be developed in order to create beautiful scene overall.

Week 5

Generic Wall Type

Learning Portfolio #7 9/15/2015

Rapid Visualization

Reflection Strength: ●

Be able to construct simple walls and transform them into a different shapes so that I can create various walls.

Successfully used “‘offset” form or “push” tool to give a differentiate.

Also found out the usage of “divide” in efficient way.

Made a dorm shape and intersect it with other element.

Challenges: ●

Sometimes wall came out to be weirdly that when I erase up the specific line it would erase up everything. I think it is because of how I didn’t really be organized and neat in draw out the element.

I need to break out from the straight thinking and have to be in a more creative way.

Third Transformation

Transformation with Hexagonal cylinder + cone shape.

Reflection Strength:

I learned how to use “intersect” function to successfully combine two different models into one form.

Be able to make different shapes of things such as dome, sphere, cone, hexagonal cylinder, and cylinder.

I think there was improvement using the shadows to play around the model.

Challenges:

I should be more creative to play around all different shapes so that when I become professional architect, I can use all the shapes to figure out what I am trying to make.

More

practice

intersection.

RISK

Sometimes blew out whole thing because of mistaken lines.

Week 6

Design transformation #2

Learning Portfolio #9 9/22/2015

Six different transformations

Reflection Strength:

I was able to combine more objects freely than before.

Learned to see other aspects.

I also realized what I will need to combine by transformation the two things in order to create what I designed.

Positive factors ●

I can form up the different types of objects such are very unique and unusual.

Challenges:

There were some empty spaces I erased up for mistakes and it needs to be improved.

More practices requiring for dramatic viewing.

getting more into the Sketchup.

Paper Airplane Floatilla

Front view

Details & analyzation

Reflection Strength: ●

Started from the rectangular flat shape, succeed in creating the airplanes by folding up step by step.

Duplicate the first airplanes and placed them as a triangular formation to be shown as more dramatic.

Learned to use fog function and placed the gray tone fog.

Positive factors: ●

I can also create something that I can also fold with paper.

I started to think creatively how I can create the thing that I want.

Challenges: ●

Have fun with fogs to create different views.

I should be practicing on folding without Jerry’s help.

Week 7

Folding and Transforming

View at a glance

Reflection Strength: ●

Successfully folded the rectangles to create same sizes of rooftops.

Learned to elevated each of them so that rooftops are aligned in a size where person can go through.

I made columns that support the rooftops and change their shapes with using “scale” function.

Placed the Steve in a best place where shadow is perfectly fit and captured it out making the best shot.

Challenges: ●

More practice is needed to fold the things in a way that I would like to do so.

I will play around more with scale tool so I can figure out more columns different than what I made.

Folding Simple Lattice Panel

Learning Portfolio #11 10/1/2015

Bus stop with folding simple lattice panel

Art gallery with folding simple lattice panel

Reflection Strength: ● Was able to understand folding function better than before. ● Successfully created lattice panel by folding and offset the edges to create empty spaces of the panel. ● Played around with 3d warehouse which can decorate my lattice panel and make a visualization of my imagined space usage. Challenges: ● Do more of activities on using fold function to draw my visualization in Sketchup more efficiently. ● Draw out more ways in my head to transport the lattice panel.

Reflection Strength: ●

Knew more about how to fold the things and create other things with it.

I realized that I can also put up harder and bigger columns that can support them just like a bridge with a roofs.

Choose the best routine to make my scene for best animation, and succeed it.

Also successfully made out the door in columns so that person can go or see through it.

Learned to change the styles and used background and ground section of style function to change the sky and ground color. (tried to express the sunset)

Challenges: ●

New to experiencing how to make fence out of follow me tool and I need more practice.

Plan view in perspective ●

Use more in style section to create different views with sketchy or watercolor themes.

Week 9 & 10 & 11

Sandbox Tool Drape & Stamp

Learning Portfolio #13 10/13/2015 15 22 27 29

After the long walk in the mysterious mountain, I finally found the road.

More stairs to go? Where do I heading to?

In a meantime, when I was almost tired of walking, I saw something that looks like stairs.

At the end of the stairs, I found out the door and I see tables, christmas tree there.

I was right, and I am definitely going up these stairs

It is such a quiet place with no one in but seems like it is the cafe.

Look! Another stair..?

And another?

I can see the mountains without road that made me confused all the way till here.

Then one more terrace!

Whole building view with stairs and roads

Reflection Strength ●

I designed my own building in my own.

Successfully created the sandboxes to support my building.

Learned to use drape and stamp tool.

I also changed the color of the sky and the background so that my work would look more professional.

Be patient all the time and endure myself to complete everythings.

Challenges ●

Took many times to use stamp tool because It did not work out as the way that I want.

As like the hardness that I felt in stamp tool, I did same for the drape tool too.

Had to become a creative person in order to make up my own building or plaza to put on a sandboxes.

Needed Jerry’s help desperately, but succeeded in doing myself to get work done.

Week 12 & 13

Construct My Home

Learning Portfolio # 14 11/3/2015 5 10 13

Floor plan measurements & Progresses

First draft with measurements

Second draft with carpeting

Furnitures and setting

Perspective views from the rooms

Living room view

Kitchen view from the living room

Simple room view

Hallway through the two bedrooms and bathroom

Reflection Strength ●

Succeeded in measure my own home to create floor plan.

I got to know how to create the home same to the floor plan.

Using a 3d warehouse, I put on the furnitures that match up with mine to visualize my home more specifically and clearly.

It was also the first time that I learned how to use the section tool to make section transparent.

Challenges ●

Sometimes I was confused because the size that I measured seemed to be wrong. Then I had to erase the wrong part and did it again in order to create accurate house floor plan.

A lots of time consuming, and same for the efforts too.

Additional works required.

Week 13

View at a Glance #1

View at a Glance #2

Stairway up to the cafe

Reflection Strength ●

Began to use the photomatch function to copy out the lines of the building to trace them.

Be able to use the other functions more accurately.

I succeeded on making out the stairs up to the cafes.

Got a time to figure out with pictures that Jerry gave out to imagine how building looks like.

Using of animation function to make the whole building in a storytelling formation.

Challenges ●

Sometimes, the lines are messed up tangled together and suddenly erased up that made me so much in panicking.

Took a time to figure out the formation of building by looking over the pictures.

Had to find the shadows and 3d images which perfectly fit into my work.

Reflection Strength ●

I became so patient

Successfully built up the building that is familiar with the inspiration picture by observation and measurement. I used the floor plan, interior pictures, and exterior floor plan too.

Looked up the floor plan to copy familiar as in Sketchup.

Learned how to use other style such as making background as a complete white color.

Challenges ●

I had to put up so much efforts and especially the time to figure out how I should build some part.

Tilted roof top is such a huge challenge to me, since I never tried it by myself. And at last, I found out what I should do, and I thought it was very benetfitful.

After finished up the final project I would say it was the most challengeable project ever among all the projects we did in Architecture 20 class. It was really time consuming since I tried to finish everything without any other help, and that will be the reason why I thought it was challengeable. During the project, I was also got irritated because the Sketchup did not follow what I wanted to do. However, right after when I finished up the final project, I felt like I got more understanding in how architectural building’s composition is and I realized how broad the world of Sketchup is. Maybe by doing this project, I would like to try more on other things to improve my Sketchup skills!
