Starving Artist No More? This is just too cute. Talk about bringing artisan sandwiches to a whole new level. Can you guess the artists behind each sandwich? Brittany Powell’s “Sandwich Artist” Project. . *Click on artist name for original work.
Ahhh, Klimt. Obviously inspired by the erotic “The Kiss.” Love the contrast of skin tones - something that is so apparent in the original painting and what I think makes the painting so sexy. The use of poppyseed mustard is genius. You think the effect of edible gold flakes lightly peppered on top of the mustard would have been overkill?
.
If you didn’t guess Rothko, you are dead to me. .
A touch of some dark and white colors would have made this more Pollock-esque. Nutella and Mayo, perhaps? That said, this cheese + mustard + ketchup sandwich is something that I would have totally packed for myself in kindergarten. .
O’Keefe. Flower or Vagina? .
I have a soft spot for Mondrian. Anything Mondrian = Me happy. The green on the lower left irks me just a wee bit, as strict Neo-Plasticist Mondrian would have never used green for his grid-based paintings… Just white, black, shades of grey, red, yellow and blue. but I get that naturally blue food does not exist in this lowly, mortal world and anything remotely blue-ish wouldn’t work as a sandwich filling or condiment (e.g. blueberries, blue corn chips, blue m&m’s). BUT WAIT. What about blueberry jam? Or better yet: BLUE CHEESE? The blue cheese that really isn’t blue at all would add such an abstract spirit to an abstract painter’s sandwich. I should really shut up now. Ok. zzzzzzzip. .
Duchamp :) Looks tastier than a urinal, for sure. .
Jasper Johns. Mi piace! This one actually looks like it would taste good as well. .
Um. Borrowing the words of dear Mr. Hirst, “Absolutely fucking brilliant.” All the more brilliant because Hirst himself did not create this “spot painting” sandwich. Hirst is known to have painted just 5 of his wildly successful (not to mention much criticized) spot paintings. The rest were painted by his assistants- in a Warholian/The Factory kind of spirit. .
Bahahaha! None other than Christo and Jeanne-Claude. This environmental artist duo were famous for wrapping buildings and shit. So perfect. The end. Thank you Brittany Powell. . Oh, and happy
, folks. Will be venturing out to Itaewon tonight with my girls for a tranny-bar adventure.
