Don’t judge a book by its cover.
Just waiting for the perfect occasion to use this charming greeting card.
My good friend Angela gave me this book before i left for Venice. “Make your very own no. 1 bestseller!” it says on the back cover. Waiting for the right moment to start writing the story of my life.
This was given to me as a goodbye present from my college buddy Charles when I left the states. We shared a mutual love for children’s book writer Shel Silverstein (the author/illustrator of “The Giving Tree” and other numerous literary gems), and surprise, surprise, he got me this 30th anniversary special edition of “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” complete with 12 new, neverbeforepublished poems. It was one of the most meaningful gifts I had ever received from anybody :)
Oh, how confused and annoyed i was when I unwrapped Pak’s birthday present and found a bible resting in my hands. I think I said something along the lines of, “Awww gee, thanks. Huh. A bible. Sweet. Did you steal this from a motel?” Pak laughed like a maniac and told me to open it. And there I discovered none other than a CANTEEN snugly tucked in the holy book. Ah, the irony of it all! If there really is a (Christian) god, he’ll probably send me to hell for this.
This is my favorite popup book, created by the legendary popup book artist, Robert Sabuda. I acquired this way back when I was in middle school, and I am proud to say that it is still in mint condition. My mom refused to buy me any fancy clothes or designer label shoes when I was growing up (she didn’t believe in fashion), but she never said no to books. I guess I fully took advantage of that situation (evil laugh*). I may have been a walking fashion fauxpaus, but at least i was able to amass a generous collection of books of all kinds. It was a fair tradeoff, I suppose. 2:31PM | URL: http://tmblr.co/ZLIN7y2ZZwxo
