National Geographic Magazine Vol.XLII, No. 1 July, 1922 Camargue, The Cowboy Country of Southern France, Clifton Adams. National Geographic Magazine Volume XCVI, No. 6 December 1949 It’s amazing what you can unearth at good ole Goodwill and, of course, the semiannual UWMadison Memorial Library book sale, which is supposedly the largest used book sale in the state of Wisconsin. A good chunk of my collection of art reference books, as well as my vintage National Geographics, comes from the said book sale. That being said, hear ye, fellow Wisconsinites and bibliophiles; do not miss this onceinalifetime (okay, i lie, it’s more like twice or thrice a year) opportunity to stock your barren bookshelves! Not tempted? Well, guess how much I paid for a single issue of The National Geographic? Twentyfive cents. No freakin’ joke. I recall letting out a small scream when I was informed of this at the cash register (or more like, old man at a memorial library desk with a bundle of cash and a pile of change) and running back for more mags. Unfortunately, I gave away the oldest issues of my National Geographic collection to my uncle. He was always one to appreciate good photography, so I thought he would love them more than I ever would. Sadly, he did not seem all that thrilled when I presented him with my prized possessions. Alas, I trust that he is taking good care of them. I can only hope that my baby cousin didn’t get his paws on them, because he has apparently been going through a ripping/destroying/throwing phase and has already ruined my old popup books. 1:27PM | URL: http://tmblr.co/ZLIN7y2xKsH4
