Father's Day

When we started this zine, I had just gone to what was my first show in Washington: Dreamdecay, Thou and City of Caterpillar.

Seeing COC was a religious experience, and they made it one of, if not the best shows I’ve ever attended. Not only that, but I had no idea that two of my future bandmates and pals were at the same show, one of whom I would meet that night. It had been about two months since I’d been to a show at that point, and it ignited my interest in seeking out local music in a scene that I knew nothing about.

While I don’t claim to know anything about the Tacoma punk scene, nor do I claim to be active in it, I wanted to use this space to thank the people who made me feel welcome in it.

Thank you to J.P., Ahren, and everyone else at Real Art for letting me get involved, especially P.C., for driving me home a bunch and for booking screamo in Tacoma. Also, thank you to the two people at the mathcore show in a bicycle shop for coming up and talking to me when I was there alone. While your names escape me, I get really nervous and weird when I’m at shows alone (no matter how many times I do it) and it was really kind of y’all. Thank you to Eric and Nate for forming a band with me and for being good pals, because I really fucking needed both of those things.

Thanks for making me feel welcome in your spaces, it takes a lot of kindness to do that.

I hope to give some back one of these days.
