Name: Shantira Norris Affiliation: Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Chapter Designation: Gamma Rho (SP 08) School: Illinois State University Why Fraternity & Sorority Life? “I feel that membership in a fraternal organization is possibly the most impactful experiences of collegiate life.”
Things are constantly changing the world of Fraternity & Sorority Life! Here’s the inside scoop on the two new faces working with your fraternal community
What would you like the community to know?
Integrity First. Service Before Self.
NEW ADVISORS!
Excellence In All We Do.
Name: Salem Awwad Affiliation: Delta Sigma Phi Chapter Designation: Zeta Chi Chapter School: University of Alabama at Birmingham Why Fraternity & Sorority Life? “I chose fraternity and sorority life because it is what I know. I believe in what these organizations stand for, I believe Greeks can make an impact on campus as well as the community and that if done properly it will actually be a lifelong experience rather than just a four year commitment.” What would you like the community to know? “Going to the gym and being physically active will make you happy, any type of football is awesome, and the south has better food….just sayin. Go Blazers and Roll Tide!”
These are the three Core Values of the Air Force (hoorah!), but I’ve been able to carry them from my military service through to my community and campus service. Living ethically, providing meaningful service and philanthropy, and always giving your best align perfectly with the pillars of Fraternity and Sorority Life. We should challenge ourselves each day to lead by example and grow as individuals. Most importantly, enjoy the journey!

Welcome Back “SAE Here To Stay By: Vince Ortiz, President, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity
The journey to chartering finally ended on April 12th for the Illinois Tau Alpha Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. As a Senior at Illinois State University, with only one semester left until graduation, I can not fully express how proud I am of each and every member of the Illinois TauAlpha Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. We began our colony process June 1st, 2013, and since that day have striven to obtain a charter and ultimately the Zeal Award presented by our National Fraternity. I owe more to my brothers than they will ever know for allowing us to reach this point of success. Every member of our chapter has a great head on their shoulders and I expect them to stay true to our True Gentlemen Creed and succeed in every aspect of life.

Newly Charter Chapter “A New Chapter in Pi Kappa Phi History” By: Nick Birlingmair, President, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity
Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success” – Henry Ford. The summer of 2013, the men of Pi Kappa Phi at Illinois State University began a journey that truly tested their will and tenacity. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to make sure everyone passed this test. Our fraternity and brotherhood endured and for that I am grateful. The journey began at 306 W. Willow Street, an address that will always have a special place in my heart. We came together as a group of very different individuals, and I emphasize the word very. However, it was our differences that brought us together, and taught us so much about one another. When you take a step back and try to understand someone else’s perspective through their eyes, you can learn more than you ever thought you could. Using this attitude, we fought through more adversity along the way than any associate chapter ever should. From being on probation before being on campus for a semester, to the minimal support provided externally, to being told we wouldn’t survive and didn’t deserve to, we have fought the odds and come out on top. The amount of pride I have in this group is surreal, an amount I won’t be able to invest anywhere else for a long time. And now the time has finally come where we can be recognized as initiated brothers, something that will last a lifetime. It would be disrespectful if we didn’t recognize the individuals who put so much effort into our journey and are not getting to finish it with us, however their sacrifices are why we are where we are today, and we thank each of them for that. Looking to the future, the amount of potential the men of Illinois State’s Pi Kappa Phi have is something special that cannot be explained. We are so excited that the foundation we have built from bricks that were thrown at us has finally come together, and can only hope that it will stay firm for years to come. We came together, we have kept together, and now we can start working together to make sure each of us succeeds in becoming the best men we can be to those around us. It is with all my heart that I thank each and every person who has helped contribute to our group’s success along the way, and to those who ever doubted us, the Stallions at Illinois State University are here to stay.

College Panhellenic Council “Lip Sync Showdown” By: Haley Glavanovits, Vice President of Community Development, College Panhellenic Council On Wednesday April 8th, the College Panhellenic Council held their first ever Lipsync Showdown! This event was held to raise money for Panhellenic’s philanthropy, The Circle of Sisterhood Foundation and to collect donations for Home Sweet Home Ministries.
Men and women from several Greek organizations performed to their favorite summer hits of the 2000’s on stage in the Brown Ballroom at the Bone Student Center.
Members from Alpha Gamma Delta and Phi Kappa Psi put on a show to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” and took home first place! The women of Sigma Sigma Sigma brought in the most donations for Home Sweet Home Ministries. Special thanks to Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Lambda Gamma, and Alpha Psi Lambda for also bringing in donations for Home Sweet Home Ministries. All proceeds raised through tickets sales have been donated to The Circle of Sisterhood Foundation and all donations have been dropped off at Home Sweet Home Ministries. Thanks to everyone that joined us! We can’t wait to host this event again in the future.

College Panhellenic Council “A Q & A with the Lip Sync run away star” By: Yesenia Garcia, Graduate Assistant for Fraternity & Sorority Life In case you missed the epic performance that rivaled the ACTUAL Miley Cyrus, we have contacted the run away star, Anthony Irsuto. from CPC’s first annual Lip Sync Competition and bring you this exclusive interview. Anthony, you stole the show at the CPC Lip Sync Competition. I’m sure the ladies of Alpha Gamma Delta had a blast working with you. Now you have adoring fans…. What’s the transition like? It’s hard, sometimes I get tackled on the quad by my fans and I have a lot on my plate with my album coming out in December, but what people don’t realize is that I am the same kid I was before, and I make sure not to let the fame go to my head. Can you walk us through the creative process of preparing for the lip sync competition? Well, three days prior to the event I got a text message from AGD saying that we needed to practice for the Lip Synch Competition, and I was like “Cool when is it?’ and that’s when they told me it was on Wednesday and we need to have at least one practice before then. I was put in charge of gathering Phi Psi’s that wanted to do the event and to my surprise, everyone refused because they were busy so I was left to tackle this competition on my own. Me and the girls practiced for one hour the day before the competition and I was to lazy to learn the dance so they graciously made me Miley Cyrus. What was it like performing in front of all of your peers? Originally no one from my chapter could make it on the day of the performance so I felt sort of lonely, but then when I got up on stage I heard some guys from my chapter scream my name, I felt like I was in a made-for-TV-movie and that’s when I got a huge boost of confidence and adrenaline. What made you decide to jump off stage, mid performance? What was it like breaking that fourth wall? Well before I got on stage the girls of AGD told me that it would be awesome if I went full out with the performance and I agreed. As soon as I got on stage I left all my dignity behind. I thought to myself “Anthony, what can make this performance different from the rest of the competitors? Hmmmmm maybe I should crowd surf,” I thought, “No, too risky! Ah I know what I’ll do, I’ll jump offstage and high five the judges.” And so I proceeded to throw myself off the stage. It felt amazing to break the fourth wall and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Any messages for those that dare to challenge you at next year’s lip sync event? Watch out because my performance is already in the works and my creative team is currently working on it with me.
