In March the College Panhellenic Council, the Interfraternity Council, and the Multicultural Greek Council co-sponsored an event that took a stance against sexual assault on college campuses. The three councils partnered with Milner Library, The Bone Student Center, Health Promotion and Wellness, Student Counseling Services, The ISU Police Department and Diversity Advocacy to host a special screening of the movie: The Hunting Ground and followed it by a panel to process the film. The Hunting Ground is a recent documentary showcasing the problem of sexual assault on college campuses and creates a call to action for higher education to handle it better. The film also showcased major national events and provided important context from survivors, supporters, families, and friends. Following the event CPC and IFC executive boards traveled to individual chapters to gain feedback and insight on the overall event. The following Q&A section covers some major themes and takeaways.

We wanted to provide a learning experience for our community that has been touched on in the past, but not in this much depth. In the past we have had Greek Speakers that were fun and entertaining, but as a community we have stayed safe. Sexual assault takes place on every campus and we are taking the issue into our own hands and educating the members of our community. Starting the discussion for survivors of sexual assault and letting them know that all three boards are here to support them was one of our main goals when we decided to take on this event. We know it is a difficult subject to talk about, but providing support and awareness to harder subjects is what is going to create change.
Sexual assault happens to nearly one out of five women and one in 33 men. We have close to 2,200 students in our Greek Community. Why not now? It is a subject many have strayed away from talking about, but one that everyone needs to be educated on. If this is effecting the lives of the students in our community, why aren't we educated? By presenting this movie, we hope to see change in our peers. We want to see them taking a stand against sexual assault and feel as passionate about it as we do. With two of the three boards seeing this movie at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values, we thought it would be an amazing opportunity to enlighten our community. We saw it as an educational event that we could not pass up.
The Hunting Ground was first showed at ISU in Fall 2015. However, there was little to no Greek Life attendance due to conflicting schedules. Since the three Greek councils supported the showing of this movie and put on the event, we only allowed Greek members to attend. This was the first all Greek event in a few years that really touched on sexual assault. The executive boards felt that a safe space was needed to truly see how the community would react to such a controversial topic. Now that we have that knowledge we can plan for more events like The Hunting Ground and possibly open it up to the entire campus.
