OUR MISSION As a not-for-profit organization, YES (Youth Employment Services) enriches the community by providing English-language support services to help Quebecers find employment and start and grow businesses.
YES’s mission is to help Quebecers province-wide find employment and start and grow businesses, and we have been dedicated to that goal for the past 20 years. Originally created in 1995 as a non-profit organization to stem the flow of young people out of Quebec, we have since expanded our mission to help over 46,000 Quebecers during economic uncertainty through our various programs and services for Job Seekers up to age 35, and Entrepreneurs and Artists of any age. Throughout the year, we provide individual career counselling, business coaching, day and evening workshops, conferences, events, mentoring, and networking opportunities. In addition to having a stellar in-house staff, we rely on our network of partners from the business, non-profit, media, academic and corporate communities to deliver services, act as mentors, and provide strategic direction. Because of you - our supporters, funders, donors and sponsors - we provided much-needed resources to 4,124 individuals in 2015-2016 which empowered them to become self-sufficient. YES is a proud member of Imagine Canada’s Ethical Code Program. As a member, YES meets donor expectations and complies with the Code’s fundraising and financial accountability standards.

A MESSAGE FROM THE YES PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR As YES moves into its third decade, I am very proud to say that the state of our organization is strong. Our success has been due to a number of different factors. First and foremost, we have put together a team of client advisors, coaches, mentors, staff and volunteers who are centered and responsive to our clients’ needs, as they have evolved and as the world, the work environment and the economic climate have changed. In 2015-2016, for example, we innovated, implemented and found funding for a number of unique programs that documented, inspired, mentored and prepared our clients to advance their careers, start and sustain their businesses, and move toward making their artistic pursuits financially sustainable. We brought awareness of the employment issues Quebec English-speaking youth can face with our Community Talks project. We collected and documented stories and experiences recorded in a video booth in our centre and gathered from regions throughout the province. The result was 25 social media snippets and a 15-minute documentary that showcases the barriers and obstacles our young people face and the efforts it takes to overcome them. Our Silver Linings project involved producing a series of videos featuring six people from the English-Speaking Community of Quebec who have overcome professional setbacks and reinvented themselves for the better. Our goal is to get youth to think differently about life’s inevitable failures on the road to success.
YES is partnering with leading companies in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to develop a model for hiring, supporting and promoting women of all ages in small and medium businesses in the STEM fields. The 30-month pilot project will be tried out on smaller, local businesses. YES introduced the online Human Library mentorship tool to connect our members with experienced mentors who can provide the support to advance our clients’ business or career.

Community Talks Initiative We Gave Youth a Voice
A challenging job market in Quebec has meant that an increasing number of youth and young adults face extended periods of unemployment or underemployment, and for Quebec’s Englishspeaking cultural communities and visible minorities, even more so.
We broadened the conversation about what it’s really like to navigate today’s job market and empowered hundreds of young job seekers from across the province to share their own stories through our Community Talks Video Booths, surveys that were circulated province-wide, and #YESYouthVoices social media campaign.
We have responded in a range of ways to try to ensure that these individuals realize their full potential and succeed in today’s competitive job market. As an organization we are committed to ensuring they are provided with training, tools, and support at all times.
We developed 25 short videos capturing the youth voices and produced a 15-minute documentary and premiered it at Montreal’s Cineplex Scotiabank Theatre on March 31st to an audience of employers, educators, youth, government and local media.
We increased the scope of our job-counselling team so that they can work one-on-one with more individuals and we introduced a range of new initiatives focused on counselling, mentoring and more support for youth who are struggling to find employment and facing mental health concerns.
This conversation continues to grow stronger and louder as we push for government, businesses, non-profits, and educational institutions to work together to uncover potential solutions to youth unemployment and underemployment in Quebec.
While there is no single magic solution to the growing problem of unemployment, the cumulative impact of all these efforts is evident: By working closely with our dedicated team of employment counsellors, 77% of the individuals who participated in this year’s program either found employment, started a business, or returned to school.
“I felt isolated when I first moved to Montreal, and as a “newcomer”, I faced a difficult path overcome with fears of not being good enough despite my depth of experience and skill sets. These fears were further reinforced when my many job applications went unanswered despite my best efforts. At YES, I learned to straighten out my distorted self-beliefs and perceptions and was able to develop clarity on the career I want, and a clear action plan on how to get there. I’ve since been hired at the international fashion brand ALDO as an assistant Marketing Manager for Brand Development.”
We shared their stories to help bring awareness of the various employment issues faced by Quebec English-speaking youth.

JOB SEARCH PROGRAM Human Library Initiative We Expanded Access to Mentors Through Technology and Innovation Building on the success of our mentorship program, we implemented the YES Human Library, an online platform that makes it even easier for young professionals and mentors to connect. Using this new platform, students and young professionals can select a mentoring partner based on shared attributes, and talk with experienced volunteers from a range of industries online, face-toface, and through video-technology to get personalized information and support that’s relevant to their particular career path.
With funding and support from the Canadian Government, we invited real individuals to tell their stories publicly in our new Silver Linings Video series in order to create a community in which young individuals will be able to learn from others’ mistakes. Gloria, Journalist at Global Montreal, shared her experience navigating the Quebec job market as a newcomer to Canada. Marc, Program Manager at Ami-Quebec, shared how he used community support services, including YES, in order to recuperate from depression and a shrinking job market to discover his passion; helping others.
More than 60 clients have accessed our new Human Library program, connecting to our volunteer pool of 47 dedicated mentors.

Internship Program We Connected Youth to Workplace Experience
Our paid internship program helps young Quebecers integrate into the job market and develop core skills in their field through on-the-job-training. Twenty young graduates participated in this year’s program and 95% of them were retained for permanent full-time employment by their host employers.

JOB SEARCH PROGRAM Focus Groups We Provided a Safe and Supportive Environment With an increasing number of youth and young adults facing prolonged periods of unemployment, the incidence of related mental health issues – stress, depression, low self-esteem – is on the rise.
This year, more than 60 people from 28 community organizations across Quebec learned how to improve access to employment for persons with disabilities from the Public Service Commission of Canada, and how to build resilience for front line workers from public speaker and well-being expert, Louisa Jewell. In recognition of her outstanding achievement in the counselling employment field, YES proudly presented the 2nd annual May Polsky Award to Diane Brunelle, former director of the Côte-desNeiges Job Search Centre.
We continue to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth and young adults who experience significant feelings of hopelessness, insecurity and self-doubt as a result of prolonged joblessness. Thanks in large part to funding from Health Canada, we expanded our series of employment support groups, known as Focus Groups, for those experiencing distress and reached 56 young people in moments of urgent need. These support services are in demand and will become increasingly important in the coming years. Since the Focus Groups began in 2009, we have seen an overall success rate of 75% among participants (70% of youth found employment and 5% returned to school).
Roundtable Conference We Explored Solutions to Industry Challenges On November 30th, we brought together a collective of employment service providers who provide English-language services in Quebec through our annual Roundtable Conference.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM Services for Entrepreneurs We Helped Start-Ups Succeed Each year YES gives enterprising people, province-wide, the business skills and resources they need to launch and grow a successful venture in Quebec. We always seek cutting-edge ways to bring valuable guidance, tools, networking opportunities and financing information to the people who need it most. This year, we streamlined and expanded our range of entrepreneurship services and launched intensive Bootcamp sessions on business modelling as well as a new Start-Up Generator Workshop Series that takes participants step-by-step through business plan creation. We also launched an online mentorship tool, expanding access to help young entrepreneurs province-wide get the guidance they need when they need it.
Entrepreneurship Conference We Brought Together Leaders and Experts from the Community On May 20th, we gave entrepreneurs in the earlier stages of their business, and those that are more established, the opportunity to network with and learn from top entrepreneurs and professionals at our annual Entrepreneurship Conference. We invited 12 successful individuals from first-time founders to seasoned entrepreneurs to share their aha! moments with over 120 passionate entrepreneurs in attendance. An informative program was designed to inspire, encourage and support entrepreneurs balancing knowledgeable speakers from a range of backgrounds including Food & Hospitality, E-Commerce, Photography and Leadership Training.
Through all these efforts, we helped 1,985 entrepreneurs strengthen their operations and helped to launch or grow over 570 businesses in Quebec this year.
“Working in film and catering, we wanted help set up and maintain a vegetable garden in our new Verdun home, but there was nowhere to turn. Urban Agriculture was something most Montrealers still hadn’t heard of. Seeing an untapped opportunity, we came to YES for help to start our family business while juggling a newborn and a toddler. STEM Mentorship Initiative We Continued to Encourage Innovation Among Women
Our business coaches continuously represent and advance the mission of YES by contributing to and strengthening partnerships through community collaboration, outreach and education. Through a combination of presentations, workshops, information kiosks, email blasts and marketing campaigns, we educated the community about YES programs and services. We reached hundreds of individuals through our outreach efforts at educational institutions, local community centres and other outreach opportunities including the Boise Library, Dawson College, McGill University and Concordia University.
We advocated for more mentoring and business start-up support for women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and, in April 2015, we received funding from the federal government to develop a mentoring program to encourage the hiring and advancement of women in small and medium businesses in the STEM fields. The funding announcement was made by Kellie Leitch, Federal Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women at the YES center and was attended by government officials, media, community partners and members of other community organizations.
We continued to invest in technology to enhance our clients’ experience and reach more entrepreneurs across the province, including introducing the Human Library, an online resource to easily bring entrepreneurs and mentors together.
Regional Development Initiative We Collaborated with Community Groups to Promote Accessibility and Enhance Entrepreneurship in Rural Areas We are constantly working hard to deepen our partnerships with community groups across Quebec to provide much-needed English support services to entrepreneurs in underserved communities. This year, in collaboration with CASA (Committee for Anglophone Social Action), VEQ (Voice of English-Speaking Quebec), RAWQ (Regional Association of West Quebecers), NSCA (North Shore Community Association) and the Townshippers’ Association, we delivered workshops and conducted over 600 one-on-one business coaching sessions in the Gaspésie-Iles-de-le-Madeleine, Quebec City, Côte-Nord, Outaouais and Eastern Townships regions.

To officially kick off the launch of this new mentorship initiative for women, we partnered with the US Embassy and invited self-made business woman, Ingrid Vanderveldt - media personality, investor, mentor, and sought-after international speaker on entrepreneurship, women’s leadership, and the global economy - to present a roundtable discussion on Advancing Women through Mentorship at the YES Centre on July 8th. Over the course of the 30 month project, YES will be partnering with local STEM companies to create a gender specific mentorship model. Three pilot models are currently underway at CAE, IC Axon & Netmail. The model will specifically target women’s advancement within these companies and has been developed with a diverse and skilled advisory committee.

ARTISTS PROGRAM Services for Artists We Helped Artists Build Sustainable Creative Careers
We also empowered ten emerging Quebec artists to give showcase presentations and practice their pitch in front of an audience of their peers and creative professionals.
We help build the capabilities of artists and creative professionals by providing the business skills, strategies and tools that enable them to build sustainable, viable careers. We support artists with specialized advice, training and coaching. We offer workshops, exchanges and conferences that develop business skills, help share best practices and offer inspiration and guidance from leading experts. And we provide access to in-house resources such as our Job Search and Entrepreneurship Services, legal and accounting workshops, and our new Human Library platform that connects artists at the beginning of their career with established industry professionals. In 2015, the YES Centre supported 392 local artists that used our programs and services 1,074 times.
Annual Artists’ Conference We Created Opportunities for Quebec’s Emerging Artists Every year, we bring the Quebec arts community together at our Annual Artists Conference for collaboration, sharing, professional learning and networking opportunities to help artists learn the essential business skills they need to make it in the art world. This year, we created opportunities for career development and professional development through a series of interactive and thought-provoking presentations from influential professionals in the creative industries: artists learned how to develop their marketing skills; what it takes to build a network of relevant industry connections; and the best techniques to gain access to arts funding.
The event, now in its 15th year, sold out with more than 150 artists in attendance and we are proud to be a leading provider of information and resources for so many in the artist community.

Outreach in the Community We Partnered with the Community and Expanded Access through Technology For artists living in rural areas, getting access to support can be a challenge. Our dedicated Artist Coach works year-round with institutions province-wide to educate and raise awareness of the YES programs and support services that are available for artists. Throughout the year, we offered workshops and coaching sessions online via video conferencing that allowed artists across the province to get the information and support they need. In Fall 2015, we expanded our reach by partnering with the English Language Arts Network (ELAN) to conduct a series of grant writing workshops which took place in multiple regions including the National Capital Outaouais, and the Eastern Townships.

ARTISTS PROGRAM “After University, I was unemployed and the search for a position as an art educator was challenging at best. Right before Christmas, I found myself with no money which is when I stumbled upon a handful of illustrations that I had done and it occurred to me that I could create something that I could give to my friends and family that year without spending any money, which, is how that first colouring book was born – out of sheer necessity. I knew that I could grow my idea into something bigger but wasn’t quite sure how to make that happen when a friend suggested I apply to participate in the Art Expo hosted by YES. Since that event, I’ve founded my own company which sells a variety of books and stationery products online and in stores in Canada and in the U.S. I couldn’t have gotten this far without the resources at YES, most especially the advice and support that I get from my business coach. I always leave my meetings feeling empowered and on the right track.”

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES THAT BUILD OUR COMMUNITY 20th Anniversary Open House We Celebrated 20 Years of Changing Lives On February 25th, YES celebrated its 20th Anniversary. To mark the occasion, we invited the general public to visit the YES Centre throughout the day to see the staff in action and receive a guided tour of our centre. That same evening, our mentors, volunteers, donors, board members, advisors, government supporters, and staff joined us for a VIP reception at the YES Centre. We took the opportunity to unveil the history of our organization by featuring photos and various promotional items used over the years.

Tune In To YES Annual Fundraiser Our Annual Tune In To YES Benefit Concert and Silent Auction has grown to become one of our most vital fundraising events. The funds raised enable YES to significantly expand our outreach, training and programs to help Quebec’s job-seeking youth, entrepreneurs and artists succeed. This year, 275 supporters raised $78,000 at this annual event. The commitment and hard work of our organizing committee and volunteers, and the generosity of our donors and sponsors made all of this possible.
Direct Mail Fundraising Campaign Once a year we reach out to our network of supporters through a direct mail campaign. This campaign allows us to connect with our community, and share with them our impact from the previous year as well as our goals for the year ahead.

An outpouring of donations from our donors and supporters this year enabled us to go beyond our target of $35,000 to raise a total of $36,407, and we are incredibly grateful to our supporters who showed their support and commitment by giving generously.

NOTRE MISSION En qualité d’organisme à but non lucratif, YES (Services d’emploi pour les jeunes) contribue à l’enrichissement de la communauté en offrant des services de soutien en anglais pour aider les Québécois à trouver un emploi ou démarrer/développer leur entreprise.
La mission de YES consiste à aider tous les Québécois à trouver un emploi et à démarrer et développer des entreprises, et nous nous consacrons à cet objectif depuis les 20 dernières années. Fondé originalement en 1995 en tant qu’organisme à but non lucratif visant à endiguer l’exode des jeunes quittant le Québec, nous avons depuis élargi notre mission afin de guider plus de 46 000 Québécois dans des périodes d’incertitude économique à l’aide de nos divers programmes et services pour chercheurs d’emploi de 35 ans ou moins, et entrepreneurs et artistes de tous âges. Au cours de l’année, nous avons offert des séances individuelles d’orientation professionnelle, de l’accompagnement professionnel, des ateliers de jour ou de soir, des congrès, des événements, du mentorat et des activités de réseautage. En plus de disposer d’une équipe interne exceptionnelle, nous pouvons également compter sur notre réseau de partenaires provenant des communautés d’affaires, organismes sans but lucratif, médias, établissements scolaires et corporations pour offrir des services, jouer un rôle de mentor et proposer une direction stratégique. Grâce à vous — partisans, donateurs et commanditaires — nous avons offert des ressources indispensables à 4 124 individus en 2015-2016 et leur avons ainsi permis de devenir indépendants. YES est fière d’être membre du programme Code d’éthique d’Imagine Canada. En qualité de membre, YES répond aux attentes des donateurs et se conforme aux normes de financement et de responsabilité financière du Code. 2

YES collabore avec des grandes entreprises œuvrant en science, technologie, ingénierie et mathématique (STIM) pour développer un modèle pour embaucher, supporter et promouvoir les femmes de tous âges dans les petites et moyennes entreprises œuvrant en STIM. Le projet pilote de 30 mois sera mis à l’essai dans de petites entreprises locales. YES a également lancé la banque de ressources humaines, un outil de mentorat en ligne pour mettre nos membres en communication avec des mentors expérimentés qui peuvent leur fournir un soutien pour faire avancer l’entreprise ou la carrière de nos clients.

PROGRAMME DE RECHERCHE D’EMPLOI Services de recherche d’emploi Aider les jeunes à trouver un emploi Au Québec, un marché de l’emploi difficile suppose qu’un nombre croissant de jeunes et jeunes adultes se heurtent à de plus longues périodes de chômage ou de sous-emploi et cette situation est encore plus marquée pour les communautés culturelles anglophones et les minorités visibles du Québec. Nous avons répondu à cette situation de différentes façons afin de nous assurer que ces individus atteignent leur plein potentiel et aient du succès sur le marché de l’emploi actuel qui est des plus concurrentiels. En qualité d’organisme, nous nous engageons à nous assurer qu’ils reçoivent formation, outils et soutien en tout temps. Nous avons accru la portée de notre équipe de conseillers en emploi afin qu’elle puisse travailler individuellement avec plus d’individus et avons introduit un éventail de nouvelles initiatives axées sur le soutien et le mentorat. Nous avons également offert plus de soutien aux jeunes qui ont des difficultés à trouver un emploi et qui sont confrontés à des problèmes de santé mentale. Bien qu’il n’existe aucune solution magique au grandissant problème du chômage, l’effet cumulatif de tous ces efforts est évident : En travaillant étroitement avec notre équipe de conseillers en emploi dévoués, 77 % des individus ayant participé au programme de cette année ont soit trouvé un travail, démarré une entreprise ou sont retournés à l’école.
Initiative Community Talks Donner la parole aux jeunes Nous avons élargi le dialogue sur ce que cela représente vraiment d’être confronté au marché de l’emploi actuel et d’autonomiser des centaines de chercheurs d’emploi de la province afin qu’ils nous partagent leurs histoires dans nos cabines vidéo Community Talks, dans les sondages qui ont circulé dans toute la province et dans le cadre de notre campagne de médias sociaux #YESYouthVoices. Nous avons créé 25 capsules vidéos reflétant la voix des jeunes et produit un documentaire de 15 minutes présenté en grande première au cinéma Cineplex Scotiabank de Montréal le 31 mars à un auditoire composé d’employeurs, éducateurs, jeunes et membres du gouvernement et des médias locaux. La conversation ne fait que s’intensifier et devenir plus éloquente alors que nous incitons de plus en plus les gouvernements, entreprises, organismes sans but lucratif et établissements d’enseignement à collaborer entre eux pour trouver des solutions pour contrer le chômage et le sous-emploi des jeunes au Québec. Le documentaire Community Talks et les 25 capsules pour réseaux sociaux qui l’accompagnent ont bénéficié d’une grande couverture médiatique sur MAtv et Global News, de même que dans The Montreal Gazette, et sont disponibles en ligne pour visionnement sur la chaîne YouTube de YES.

PROGRAMME DE RECHERCHE D’EMPLOI Initiative de banque de ressources humaines Développer l’accès aux mentors grâce à la technologie et à l’innovation
Grâce au financement et au soutien du gouvernement canadien, nous invitons de véritables personnes à venir nous raconter leur histoire publiquement dans notre nouvelle série de vidéos Silver Linings afin de créer une communauté dans laquelle de jeunes individus seront en mesure d’apprendre des erreurs des autres.
Fort du succès de notre programme de mentorat, nous avons implanté la banque de ressources humaines de YES, une plateforme en ligne qui permet aux jeunes professionnels et mentors d’entrer plus facilement en communication. À l’aide de cette nouvelle plateforme, les étudiants et jeunes professionnels peuvent sélectionner un partenaire de mentorat selon leurs points communs, et ainsi communiquer en ligne, en personne ou par vidéoconférence avec des bénévoles aguerris de diverses industries pour obtenir des renseignements et du soutien personnalisés correspondant à leur propre cheminement de carrière. Plus de 60 clients ont accès au nouveau programme de banque de ressources humaines et communiquent avec notre bassin de 47 mentors bénévoles dévoués.
Silver Linings — Vidéos sur les avantages d’un revers pour aider les jeunes à percevoir les échecs différemment
Gloria, journaliste à Global Montreal, a partagé son expérience sur le marché de l’emploi québécois alors qu’elle était une nouvelle arrivante au Canada. Marc, gestionnaire de programmes chez Ami-Québec, nous a parlé de comment il a fait appel aux services de soutien communautaires, dont YES, afin de se remettre d’une dépression et affronter un marché de l’emploi au ralenti pour découvrir sa passion; aider les autres. Les six vidéos Silver Linings sont disponibles pour visionnement sur la chaine YouTube de YES. Les commentaires sont extrêmement positifs avec plus de 3 000 visionnements et de très nombreux partages sur les médias sociaux.

En partenariat avec Service Canada, nous nous engageons à nous assurer que les jeunes diplômés disposent des ressources appropriées pour effectuer une transition harmonieuse entre l’école et le travail.
Nous participons à l’essor du mouvement qui encourage les personnes à partager leurs échecs dans leur quête du succès afin de favoriser une culture de dialogue sur le succès et l’échec, tout en mettant l’accent sur le fait que l’échec nous aide à apprendre et à grandir.
Notre programme de stages rémunérés aide les jeunes Québécois à intégrer le marché de l’emploi et à développer des compétences de base dans leur domaine grâce à une formation en milieu de travail.

PROGRAMME DE RECHERCHE D’EMPLOI Groupes de discussion Offrir un environnement sécuritaire et accueillant Avec le nombre croissant de jeunes et jeunes adultes confrontés à des périodes de chômage prolongées, le nombre de problèmes de santé mentale – stress, dépression et faible estime de soi – est à la hausse. Nous continuons à offrir un environnement sécuritaire et accueillant aux jeunes et jeunes adultes aux prises avec d’importants sentiments de désespoir, d’insécurité et de doute à la suite d’une longue période de chômage. Grâce en bonne partie au financement de Santé Canada, nous avons augmenté le nombre de nos groupes de soutien en emploi, connus sous le nom de groupes de discussion, pour les personnes en détresse et avons rejoint 56 jeunes ayant un urgent besoin d’aide.
Cette année, plus de 60 personnes de 28 organismes communautaires du Québec ont écouté la Commission de la fonction publique du Canada leur apprendre comment améliorer l’accès à l’emploi pour les personnes handicapées et Louisa Jewell, conférencière et experte du bien-être, parler du développement de la résilience des travailleurs de première ligne. En reconnaissance pour son apport exceptionnel dans le domaine des conseils en emploi, YES a remis avec fierté le 2e prix annuel May Polsky à Diane Brunelle, autrefois directrice du centre de recherche d’emploi de Côte-des-Neiges.
Ces services de soutien sont populaires et deviendront de plus en plus importants dans les prochaines années. Depuis les débuts des groupes de discussions en 2009, nous avons obtenu un taux de réussite de 75 % des participants (70 % des jeunes ont trouvé un emploi et 5 % sont retournés à l’école).
Conférence en table ronde Explorer des solutions aux défis de l’industrie Le 30 novembre dernier, nous avons rassemblé des fournisseurs d’emploi offrant des services de langue anglaise au Québec à notre conférence annuelle en table ronde.

PROGRAMME D’ENTREPRENEURIAT Services pour entrepreneurs Aider les entreprises en démarrage à réussir Chaque année, YES fournit aux entrepreneurs de l’ensemble de la province, les compétences et les ressources entrepreneuriales dont ils ont besoin pour démarrer ou développer une entreprise prospère au Québec. Nous sommes constamment à la recherche de méthodes à la fine pointe pour offrir conseils précieux, opportunités de réseautage et renseignements financiers aux personnes qui en ont le plus besoin. Cette année, nous avons uniformisé et développé notre offre de services d’entrepreneuriat et lancé des séances intensives de type « boot camp » sur la modélisation d’affaires, de même qu’une série d’ateliers de création d’entreprises en démarrage qui guident les participants à travers toutes les étapes de la création d’un plan d’affaires. Nous avons également procédé au lancement d’un outil de mentorat en ligne et étendu son accès pour aider les jeunes entrepreneurs de la province à obtenir les conseils dont ils ont besoin, lorsqu’ils en ont besoin. Grâce à tous nos efforts, nous avons aidé 1 985 entrepreneurs à optimiser leurs activités et contribué au lancement ou au développement de plus de 570 entreprises au Québec. « Nous travaillons dans le domaine du cinéma et des services traiteur et avions besoin d’aide pour installer et entretenir un jardin de légumes à notre nouvelle maison de Verdun, mais nous ne savions pas vers qui nous tourner. L’agriculture urbaine était quelque chose dont la plupart des Montréalais n’avaient pas encore entendu parler.
Notre coach d’affaires chez YES nous a aidé à obtenir un prêt avec Futurpreneur et la Banque de développement du Canada (BDC), alors que le coordonnateur du programme de mentorat chez YES nous a trouvé un mentor extraordinaire. Congrès d’entrepreneuriat Rassembler les dirigeants et experts de la communauté Le 20 mai, nous avons permis aux entrepreneurs en début de développement de leur entreprise, et à ceux qui sont plus établis, de réseauter et d’apprendre auprès d’entrepreneurs et professionnels aguerris lors de notre Congrès annuel d’entrepreneuriat. Nous avons invité 12 professionnels prospères, allant de fondateurs de premier instant aux entrepreneurs chevronnés, à partager leurs moments aha! avec les quelque 120 entrepreneurs passionnés sur place. Le programme informatif était conçu pour inspirer, encourager et appuyer les entrepreneurs et offrait un bon équilibre entre les conférenciers avertis provenant de divers milieux tels que l’industrie alimentaire et de la restauration, le commerce électronique, la photographie et la formation en direction.
Considérant qu’il s’agissait d’un créneau non exploité, nous avons fait appel à YES pour obtenir de l’aide pour démarrer notre entreprise familiale alors que nous avions un nouveau-né et un jeune enfant. Nous avons connu des débuts modestes avec nos 15 clients desservis par notre serre de jardin mais nous comptons désormais des centaines de clients de Hudson à Rivière-des-Prairies. Les entrepreneurs culinaires, Michèle Forgione et Stefano Faita, partagent leurs moments aha! avec l’auditoire.

PROGRAMME D’ENTREPRENEURIAT Sensibilisation de la communauté Développer les services d’entrepreneuriat à l’ensemble de la province Nos coachs d’affaires représentent et font avancer constamment la mission de YES en contribuant et en renforçant les partenariats par l’entremise de la collaboration, du rayonnement et de l’éducation communautaire. Grâce à une combinaison de présentations, ateliers, kiosques d’information, envoi massif de courriels et campagnes de marketing, nous informons la communauté sur les programmes et services de YES. Nous avons rejoint des centaines d’individus grâce à nos efforts de sensibilisation dans les établissements d’enseignement, les centres communautaires locaux et lors d’autres occasions de sensibilisation à la bibliothèque Boisé, au collège Dawson et aux universités McGill et Concordia.
Initiative de mentorat STIM Continuer d’encourager l’innovation chez les femmes Nous militons pour obtenir plus de mentorat et de soutien en démarrage d’entreprise pour les femmes œuvrant en science, technologie, ingénierie et mathématiques (STIM) et, en avril 2015, nous avons reçu du financement du gouvernement fédéral pour développer un programme de mentorat pour encourager l’embauche et l’avancement des femmes dans les petites et moyennes entreprises œuvrant dans le domaine des STIM. L’annonce du financement a été effectuée par la ministre fédérale du travail et ministre de la Condition féminine, Kellie Leitch, au Centre YES où étaient rassemblés représentants du gouvernement et des médias, partenaires communautaires et membres d’autres organismes communautaires.
Nous continuons d’investir dans la technologie afin d’améliorer l’expérience de nos clients et de rejoindre plus d’entrepreneurs dans la province, y compris avec l’introduction de la banque de ressources humaines, une ressource en ligne pour mettre les entrepreneurs et mentors en contact plus facilement.
Initiative de développement régional Promouvoir l’accessibilité et augmenter l’entrepreneuriat dans les zones rurales Nous travaillons constamment d’arrache-pied pour approfondir nos partenariats avec les groupes communautaires du Québec et fournir des services de soutien en anglais qui sont indispensables aux entrepreneurs des communautés mal desservies. Cette année, en collaboration avec le CASA (Comité d’action sociale anglophone), le VEQ (Voix des anglophones du Québec), la RAWQ (Regional Association of West Quebecers), la NSCA (North Shore Community Association) et la Townshippers’ Association, nous avons présenté des ateliers et effectué plus de 600 séances individuelles d’accompagnement professionnelles dans les régions de Gaspésie-Ilesde-la-Madeleine, Québec, Côte-Nord, Outaouais et Cantons-de-l’Est.

Pour lancer officiellement la nouvelle initiative de mentorat pour femmes, nous nous sommes associés à l’ambassade des États-Unis et avons invité le 8 juillet dernier au Centre YES la femme d’affaires autodidacte, Ingrid Vanderveldt – personnalité médiatique, investisseuse, mentor et conférencière internationale convoitée spécialisée en entrepreneuriat au féminin, direction féminine et économie mondiale – à présenter une discussion en table ronde sur l’avancement des femmes par le mentorat. Au cours de ce projet de 30 mois, YES s’associera à des entreprises STIM locales pour créer un modèle de mentorat spécifique au genre. Trois modèles pilotes sont actuellement à l’essai chez CAE, IC Axon et Netmail. Ce modèle visera spécifiquement l’avancement des femmes dans ces entreprises et a été développé en collaboration avec un conseil consultatif diversifié et qualifié.

PROGRAMME POUR ARTISTES Services pour artistes Aider les artistes à construire des carrières originales et durables Nous aidons à développer les capacités des artistes et professionnels de la création en leur fournissant les compétences d’affaires, les stratégies et les outils leur permettant de bâtir des carrières durables et viables. Nous appuyons les artistes à l’aide de conseils spécialisés, de formation et de coaching. Nous organisons des ateliers, échanges et congrès qui développent les compétences en affaires, favorisent le partage des meilleures pratiques et offrent inspiration et conseils d’experts reconnus. Nous offrons aussi l’accès à nos ressources internes tels que les services de recherche d’emploi et d’entrepreneuriat, les ateliers juridiques et comptables et notre nouvelle plateforme de banque de ressources humaines qui permet de mettre des artistes en début de carrière en communication avec des professionnels établis dans l’industrie.
Nous avons également permis à dix artistes québécois émergents de présenter leur projet et de répéter leur présentation devant un auditoire composé de leurs pairs et de professionnels de la création. L’événement qui en est à sa 15e année a été présenté à guichet fermé avec plus de 150 artistes présents. Nous sommes fiers d’être un fournisseur majeur d’informations et ressources pour tant de personnes dans la communauté artistique. L’artiste/entrepreneur Andy Nulman s’est joint à l’animatrice d’All In a Weekend à CBC, Sonali Karnick, pour aider les artistes à développer les compétences d’affaires dont ils ont besoin pour réussir.
En 2015, le Centre YES a appuyé 392 artistes locaux qui ont utilisé nos programmes et services à 1 074 occasions.

Chaque année, nous rassemblons la communauté artistique du Québec à l’occasion de notre Congrès annuel des artistes pour leur offrir des opportunités de collaboration, partage, apprentissage professionnel et réseautage et ainsi les aider à acquérir les compétences d’affaires essentielles dont ils ont besoin pour réussir dans le monde des arts.
Pour les artistes vivants dans les zones rurales, avoir accès à du soutien peut s’avérer un défi. Notre dévoué coach des artistes travaille toute l’année avec divers établissements de la province pour éduquer et mieux faire connaître les programmes et services de soutien de YES qui sont mis à la disposition des artistes.
Cette année, nous avons créé des opportunités de développement de carrière et développement personnel par le biais de présentations interactives donnant matière à réflexion et livrées par des professionnels influents de l’industrie de la création : les artistes ont appris comment développer leurs compétences en marketing; ce qu’il faut pour bâtir un réseau de contacts pertinent dans l’industrie; et les meilleures techniques pour avoir accès au financement dans le domaine des arts.
Pendant toute l’année, nous avons offert des ateliers et des séances de coaching en ligne par vidéoconférence qui permettent aux artistes de la province d’obtenir des informations et le soutien dont ils ont besoin. À l’automne 2015, nous avons accru notre rayonnement grâce à un partenariat avec l’English Language Arts Network (ELAN) pour réaliser une série d’ateliers de rédaction de demandes de subvention présentée dans plusieurs régions, dont la capitale nationale, l’Outaouais et les Cantons-de-l’Est.

PROGRAMME POUR ARTISTES « Après avoir terminé l’université, j’étais sans travail et la recherche d’un emploi comme éducatrice en arts s’avérait un défi de taille. Peu avant Noël, je me suis retrouvée sans le sou et c’est à ce moment que j’ai retrouvé certains de mes dessins et que j’ai pensé créer quelque chose que je pourrais donner à mes amis et à ma famille sans dépenser un sou. C’est donc ainsi qu’est né mon premier livre à colorier – par pure nécessité. Je savais que je pouvais développer mon idée davantage, mais je n’étais pas certaine de savoir comment y parvenir lorsqu’un ami m’a suggéré de poser ma candidature à l’Art Expo de YES. Depuis cet événement, j’ai créé ma propre entreprise qui vend des livres et des articles de papeterie en ligne et en magasin au Canada et aux États-Unis. Je n’aurais jamais pu me rendre aussi loin sans les ressources de YES, plus particulièrement grâce aux conseils et au soutien de mon coach d’affaires. Je quittais toujours mes rencontres en me sentant dynamisée et sur la bonne voie. »

ÉVÈNEMENTS ET ACTIVITÉS QUI ONT BÂTI NOTRE COMMUNAUTÉ Portes ouvertes du 20e anniversaire Célébrer 20 ans à changer des vies YES a célébré son 20e anniversaire le 25 février dernier. Pour souligner l’occasion, nous avons invité le grand public à visiter le Centre YES tout au long de la journée pour voir le personnel en action et faire une visite guidée de notre centre. Le même soir, nos mentors, bénévoles, donateurs, membres du conseil, conseillers, partisans du gouvernement et le personnel se sont joints à nous pour une réception VIP au Centre YES. Nous avons profité de l’occasion pour lever le voile sur l’histoire de notre organisation en présentant photos et divers articles promotionnels utilisés au fil des ans.

Le succès de chaque individu ayant eu recours aux services de YES pour trouver un emploi dans son domaine est attribuable à des personnes comme vous. La réussite de chaque entrepreneur YES qui a pu démarrer son entreprise et de chaque artiste YES qui a réussi est grandement attribuable à vos conseils, encouragements et à votre soutien. Nous n’aurions pu naviguer à travers ces 20 ans sans vous.
Activité de financement annuelle Tune In To YES Notre concert-bénéfice et encan silencieux annuel Tune In To YES s’est développé considérablement pour devenir une de nos activités de financement les plus importantes. Les fonds amassés permettent à YES d’étendre considérablement sa portée, ses formations et ses programmes pour aider les jeunes chercheurs d’emploi, entrepreneurs et artistes à réussir au Québec. Cette année, 275 supporteurs ont recueilli 78 000 $ à cet événement annuel. L’engagement et le travail ardu de notre comité organisateur et de nos bénévoles, de même que la générosité de nos donateurs et commanditaires, ont rendu le tout possible.

Une fois par année, nous rejoignons notre réseau de supporteurs par le biais d’une campagne de publipostage. Cette campagne nous permet d’entrer en contact avec notre communauté, et de lui faire part de nos réalisations de l’année précédente ainsi que nos objectifs pour l’année qui vient.
L’événement a également permis de saluer et d’honorer diverses personnes qui, au cours de ces 20 années, ont contribué au développement de notre organisation et démontré qu’ensemble nous sommes plus forts.
