OUR MISSION As a not-for-profit organization, YES (Youth Employment Services) enriches the community by providing English-language support services to help Quebecers find employment and start and grow businesses.
Our mission is to help Quebecers province-wide find employment and start and grow businesses, and we have been dedicated to that goal for over 20 years. Originally created in 1995 as a non-profit charity to stem the flow of young people out of Quebec, we have since expanded our mission to help over 46,000 Quebecers during economic uncertainty through our various programs and services for Job Seekers up to age 35, and Entrepreneurs and Artists of any age. Throughout the year, we provide individual career counselling, business coaching, day and evening workshops, conferences, events, mentoring, and networking opportunities. In addition to having a stellar in-house staff, we rely on our network of partners from the business, non-profit, media, academic and corporate communities to deliver services, act as mentors, and provide strategic direction. Because of you - our supporters, funders, donors and sponsors - we provided much-needed resources to over 4,000 individuals in 2016-2017, helping them become economically self-sufficient.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT This is my first full year as president of the Board of Directors of YES, and it is such an honour. YES is an amazing organization that does important work, providing people with a start – or a fresh start – in their career, so they can enjoy success, a sense of purpose as part of our community, and contribute to the diversity and success of our economy. I’m certainly impressed by the commitment of all involved, including our dedicated staff, an army of volunteers, our Board members, and of course, Iris Unger, our Executive Director extraordinaire. I would certainly be remiss if I didn’t thank John Aylen, who was president of YES for a full seven years. Under his steady leadership, YES grew to serve an ever larger number of people. The longevity of John’s mandate speaks volumes about his commitment to the organization and to our community, and I know we can continue to count on his support.

We helped start or grow 540 businesses in 2016-2017, including 124 in the Quebec regions. Of course, YES continues to be an important player in the employment ecosystem, acting as a broker to other organizations, and participating in a number of government consultations. We continue to conduct research to better understand the employment market and adjust our services accordingly. For example, in June, we released results of a study of the key barriers and opportunities faced by English-speaking newcomers to Quebec who plan on launching a business here. The goal was to better understand why so many potential entrepreneurs give up and what challenges existing business owners face.

YES’ continued success in serving its clients is due in large part to its staff’s innovative spirit for service delivery. Financial limitations can spark creativity, and newly-developed web-based services help us reach far more people. Check out some of the following: •

These are just some of the services that we created to help over 4,000 individuals in 2016-2017, including 2,000 job seekers and 2,048 entrepreneurs and artists. YES is good at what it does. In our Job Search program, 77% of our clients found employment, started a business or returned to school. During the past three years, over 90% of our interns were retained for permanent full-time work by their host employers, in companies like Cushman & Wakefield, Ultra Electronics Forensic Technology, Luxury Retreats and ALDO.
We have noticed over the years an increasing number of newcomers who need help: many people choose to make Montreal and Quebec their home, but struggle to find meaningful work or build and grow their business here, particularly when they are not native French speakers. At YES, we provide English-language services that help thousands of Quebecers, international graduates of local universities, inbound talents and their families and new arrivals become market ready. We are reviewing our strategic plan in order to better anticipate market needs and how we can best serve our clients. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I offer my heartfelt thanks to all of you who help YES help others to be successful and contribute to our community and our economy. A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Each year, YES receives over 4,000 job seekers, entrepreneurs and artists at our Centre looking for guidance, support and services as they navigate the job search process, launch or grow their businesses, or seek to earn a living from their art. Demand for these services continues to grow as does the complexity of the needs. The demographics of our unique and diverse clientele increasingly reflect new arrivals, at-risk youth and those struggling with situational depression and stress arising from economic uncertainty.

It is in direct response to these trends that YES continues to invest in and develop core programming, innovative initiatives, and an expanded staff of professionals. We take great pride in making responsive changes and seeing the positive results among our clients. Highlights from last year range from the creation of a new intensive program for younger artists that responds to their specific needs, to offering exciting tools and new ways of developing skills with our online gaming resource, JobPrepper, not to mention the continued development of our Human Library mentorship program, matching mentors and mentees online. YES has also worked hard this year on working with our many partners to do research into the issues affecting the English-language minority community, which arms us and the community with information that will help us provide targeted services that will address emerging trends in a meaningful way. I want to thank the YES staff for their hard work and commitment to excellence and their caring and passion in what they do, and extend a special thank you to the Board of Directors whose wisdom helps guide the organization. This year was a year of growth and innovation, and together, Staff and Board, we navigated this exciting time in YES’ history. We rely on our government and corporate funders, foundations and donors for their continued support and for putting their confidence in the work that we do. Our strategic advisors, Board of Directors, committees and volunteers are integral to our organization and we could not accomplish what we do without them. JOB SEARCH PROGRAM ON THE GROUND Our dedicated team of employment counsellors work with 2,000 young people annually who seek to better prepare themselves for this tougher, tighter job market and high unemployment and underemployment rates. The YES Centre continues to see an increase in individuals from all backgrounds and situations requiring support in order to secure employment; new graduates seeking their first full-time job, internationally trained professionals who are new to Quebec, youth at risk, and those facing mental health issues as a result of joblessness. The challenges facing today’s job seekers are varied and many, and as an organization, YES is committed to ensuring that young people from all walks of life have the potential and ability to succeed, and contribute to our community and our economy. This year, we received over 7,800 visits to our Centre by young people facing barriers to employment. To help job seekers become work ready and increase their chances of securing employment, they receive one-on-one career counselling and employment support and have access to workshops on career strategies, CV writing, interview preparation, and networking fundamentals and skills. Through our day-to-day efforts, 77% of the individuals who relied on our services this year either secured employment, started a business or returned to school.

IN THE COMMUNITY In partnership with Service Canada, we remained committed to ensuring that young graduates are able to transition smoothly from school to work and get their foot in the door for long-term employment. Through on-the-job training, our PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM helped 17 new graduates integrate into the job market and gain practical skills and experience in their field. 90% of them were retained for permanent full-time employment by their host employers in companies like Cushman & Wakefield, Ultra Electronics Forensic Technology, Luxury Retreats and ALDO. Our series of PEER EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT GROUPS, known as FOCUS GROUPS, ensure that individuals who are facing prolonged periods of unemployment have access to a safe and supportive environment where they can develop the skills and strategies they need to improve their self-confidence and coping skills. This year, our Focus Groups reached 66 young people in moments of urgent need and 70% of them found employment or returned to school after completing the program. Participants were able to work through their ambivalence without pressure and talk about whatever concerns they had about employment in a supportive atmosphere. The expansion of our online HUMAN LIBRARY MENTORSHIP PLATFORM provided the foundation for more meaningful connections between young professionals and experienced volunteers; 137 mentor-mentee connections were made over the past year to help individuals achieve their professional goals.

Having moved to Montreal with no clear idea on how to find a job, where to find a job, or how I could network in a place I’ve never been before, I took the advice of my career advisor at YES. She suggested that I attend an open house event for start-ups in the city and gave me a simple and straightforward plan. The following week I was called in for an interview at Ajah , a Montreal-based software company, and was hired a day later. I have not been at Ajah long, but I love it. I get to work on data projects that matter to me and there seems to be a lot of room to grow; I am excited for what the future holds. I would not have found this opportunity if not for the great advice I got at YES.

JOB SEARCH PROGRAM TECHNOLOGY Capturing the attention of both passive and active job seekers today, and motivating them enough to take action requires using all available avenues of engagement, and we’re providing support in more innovative ways than ever before. We expanded online job search services, produced a series of videos spotlighting different careers, and developed an online e-learning tool, JobPrepper, giving us a new medium to reach today’s younger generation who are increasingly turning to technology to access information.
Through technology, we’re unlocking new ways for today’s young people to learn core employability skills. Close to 400 youth have used our JobPrepper tool, and more than 4,400 have engaged with our Human Library videos.

We developed JOBPREPPER, an online e-learning tool to allow new graduates and entry-level workers to arm themselves with an understanding of the basic steps involved in the job search process - in a fun and interactive way. It also provides guidance, tips and fun facts from YES employment counsellors that users can immediately apply to a real-life setting.
We produced and launched a series of ten videos featuring a ‘day-in-the-life’ view of different career options. The videos help others with their career research and choices by giving a glimpse into the professional lives of people working in a diverse range of jobs. The videos have been viewed more than 4,400 times on YouTube.

JOB SEARCH PROGRAM OUTREACH AND COLLABORATION We continued to work closely in partnership with community organizations throughout the Province that provide employment services in Quebec to examine emerging issues and concerns facing Englishlanguage service providers. In partnership with the Employment Services Roundtable network, we hosted the Roundtable Conference in November 2016 to discuss resiliency and other critical issues, and develop practical guidance on how these problems may be resolved.

At the same time, we took the opportunity to recognize Lori Rubinger, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Agence Ometz, by presenting her with the May Polsky Award which YES established three years ago to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of Englishlanguage employment services. Lori has been involved in the employment field for many years and was actively involved on the Roundtable Conference Planning Committee. She was a counsellor for over 20 years and has contributed many great ideas for topics and speakers, chaired the committee at one time and also presented at the conference.

YES staff regularly attend meetings with both the Provincial and Federal Governments, community organizations and educational institutions regarding issues surrounding employment, self-employment and minority English-language issues.
RESEARCH Together with local and regional partners, we developed a NEEDS ASSESSMENT STUDY: EMPLOYMENT IN THE QUEBEC REGIONS to identify service gaps and develop recommendations on how to help reverse the higher youth unemployment rates faced by English-speakers in the Quebec regions. The key findings revealed that: •
97% of regional job seekers consider youth unemployment to be an issue of concern for the Quebec economy.

86% of regional job seekers surveyed find it ‘somewhat difficult’ or ‘very difficult’ to find a job in their specific field and 96% of job seekers surveyed find it ‘somewhat difficult’ or ‘very difficult’ to find a job in their specific region.
•
Language was identified as the most important barrier to employment in the Quebec regions and 82% of regional job seekers cited bilingualism as an important employability skill.
The Employment in the Québec Regions: Needs Assessment Study was developed in partnership with the Committee for Anglophone Social Action (CASA), Megantic Community Development Corporation (MCDC), North Shore Community Alliance (NSCA), Townshippers’ Association, Voice of English-speaking Québec (VEQ), and Neighbours Regional Association of RouynNoranda. The study has been distributed to major stakeholders including Government Agencies, Community Organizations and Educational Institutions.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM ON THE GROUND Our dedicated business coaches work with thousands of enterprising individuals every year who seek to start or expand their business in Quebec. We have a rich history of helping people, businesses and communities grow and prosper. Our programs are designed to foster the success of new business startups and help grow existing businesses across Quebec. Throughout the year, we work to ensure that every entrepreneur in the province has access to critical resources and information by offering free business training and coaching, workshops, mentorships, research and information on access to funding - both at our Centre and online. Through sustained and consistent effort, we helped 2,128 entrepreneurs strengthen their operations and helped to launch or grow 538 businesses in Quebec this year, including 124 businesses in the regions.

IN THE COMMUNITY This year, we continued to work closely with our regional partners across Quebec to build and strengthen partnerships and collaborations, reinforcing our capacity to provide much-needed services to entrepreneurs in rural and underserved communities. We are committed to continue serving as many people as possible. We enhanced our online services by adding new workshops, training, mentoring and networking opportunities making it more timely, relevant, and accessible for people in all regions.
OUTREACH AND COLLABORATION We continue to be a Community Partner of Futurpreneur Canada, a program offering support to young entrepreneurs from 18 to 39 years old to provide funding, mentoring and educational resources. This year, our Business Coaches helped startups secure $112,500 in loans through the Futurpreneur and BDC programs.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM In April 2016, we brought together industry experts and leaders from Quebec’s business scene at our 19th Annual Entrepreneurship Conference “Ignite: the Event for Entrepreneurial Minds” in a coordinated effort to support and spark engagement among budding entrepreneurs.

RESEARCH Throughout the year, we remained committed to advancing research into the needs of the English-language minority community and streamlining services for entrepreneurs - including newcomers and women in STEM. It is clear that more women than ever before are pursuing education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and we are seeing more women who are employed within STEM industries or applying their STEM knowledge at their workplace. However, studies show that women in STEM are still not advancing at the same rate as their male counterparts. There is also evidence that women are exiting the STEM industry in higher volumes than men. In response, we began working with companies to develop best practices to encourage the hiring and advancement of Englishspeaking women of all ages in small and medium businesses in the STEM fields, and partnered with local STEM companies including SAP Labs Canada and CAE Inc. (Canadian Aviation Electronics) to create a gender-specific mentorship model that will help STEM organizations retain and develop the talent of their female staff.
Following rigorous consultations with the YES Project Advisory Committee, and in collaboration with our working group, ‘ADVANCE: THE MENTORSHIP TOOL FOR WOMEN IN STEM’ was created in September 2016. This tool was developed with a diverse and skilled advisory committee specifically to address the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. Advance is currently being implemented in three local pilot companies - IC Axon, CAE and Netmail. The results of the pilot will be used to gain valuable insight and determine recommendations for launching an easily duplicated and adaptable mentorship platform that could be implemented in small and medium-sized companies throughout Canada. IN THE
YES is keenly aware that pursuing a career in the arts can feel isolating for many artists, and even more so for those who live in rural or remote areas where access to services is more challenging. We respond to this need by providing online resources, as well as coaching sessions and workshops via video conferencing to reach a greater number of artists in need of support. We collaborate each year with arts organizations, developing partnerships province-wide to ensure that artists can benefit from a wider network as they pursue business ventures and careers in the arts.

In December 2016, we launched the Business Skills for Creative Youth initiative, which targets at-risk and young emerging artists, and provides key business skills through workshops culminating in a revenue-generating initiative of their own design (e.g. contracting opportunities, monetizing a work of art, etc.). The first cohort of 13 young artist-entrepreneurs successfully completed the program and were given their first opportunity to showcase their work and apply their skills in a professional setting at our Annual Business Skills for Creative Souls Artists Conference.

To expand our outreach and educational efforts, we held a special networking evening in September 2016 to give local artists and artist organizations an opportunity to get to know one another. The event featured mini-pitches where artists and organizations highlighted their services. The turnout was impressive with over 50 artists and representatives from the local arts community in attendance.

So, when did I decide to be an artist? To be honest, I do not remember. Since I’ve been with YES, my decision-making has been more assertive; my coach always presents various scenarios to me in our sessions and helps me to minimize risk by helping me to understand an environment that becomes clearer and more manageable for me every day. The help and guidance I received, and continue to receive from YES, has benefited me significantly and has been vital in helping me achieve the following successes: becoming part of Métiers d’art du Quebec, presenting at Salon des métiers d’art de Montréal and winning a 2-month residency program abroad from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

More than 140 artists working in every creative field attended and shared in a day of information, inspiration and exchange.
YES IN THE MEDIA An ongoing and strong communication strategy is central to our mission to connect to our community. Since our aim is to reach the greatest audience possible, ensuring our work gets widespread coverage in the media remains one of our most important goals. In 2016-2017, we continued to reach an ever-growing number of Quebecers through multiple channels: print, radio, television, social media and websites. We also continued our efforts to generate articles that address the most important issues surrounding employment and entrepreneurship, which were published by media outlets across the province including Laval Families Magazine and Mainstreet, the Laurentian’s only English-language newspaper.

This year marked the 10 th anniversary of the event and we are proud to report that it represented our most successful year yet, with 300 supporters raising an impressive $98,887. These funds are integral to ensuring that we can continue to be responsive to the needs of our growing clientele, as we remain committed to helping Quebec’s job-seeking youth, entrepreneurs and artists succeed. We greatly appreciate the hard work of our organizing committee, our many volunteers and, of course, the generosity of our donors and sponsors – all of whom made this memorable event possible. Annual giving helps ensure that job seekers, entrepreneurs and artists can continue to benefit from the wide range of services that YES provides each year. YES is committed to being responsive to the real needs and realities faced by the local community, and supporting our annual direct mail fundraising campaign is one of the many ways that donors can support our mission. This year, we exceeded our target of $35,000, and raised almost $45,000 – we thank you for your support and commitment!

NOTRE MISSION En qualité d’organisme sans but lucratif, YES (Services d’emploi pour les jeunes) contribue à l’enrichissement de la communauté en offrant des services de soutien en anglais pour aider les Québécois à trouver un emploi ou démarrer ou développer leurs entreprises.
Notre mission consiste à aider les Québécois de la province à trouver un emploi ou à démarrer ou développer leurs entreprises, et nous nous consacrons à cet objectif depuis plus de 20 ans. Organisme sans but lucratif créé au départ en 1995 pour endiguer l’exode des jeunes adultes hors Québec, nous avons depuis élargi notre mission afin d’aider plus de 46 000 Québécois confrontés à l’incertitude économique avec nos divers programmes et services pour chercheurs d’emploi âgés de moins de 35 ans, et entrepreneurs et artistes de tous âges. Nous offrons tout au long de l’année des services d’orientation de carrière individualisés, de l’accompagnement professionnel, des ateliers de jour et de soir, des congrès, des événements, du mentorat et des activités de réseautage. En plus de pouvoir compter sur notre personnel exemplaire, nous pouvons également nous appuyer sur notre réseau de partenaires provenant des communautés d’affaires, organismes sans but lucratif, établissements d’enseignement et entreprises pour offrir des services, jouer un rôle de mentor et proposer des directions stratégiques. Grâce à vous, fidèles partisans, donateurs et commanditaires, nous avons été en mesure d’offrir des ressources indispensables à plus de 4 000 individus en 2016-2017 et à les aider à devenir économiquement autonomes.
UN MESSAGE DE NOTRE PRÉSIDENTE Il s’agit de ma première année complète à titre de présidente du conseil d’administration de YES, et c’est pour moi un grand honneur. YES est un organisme formidable qui effectue un travail important, soit offrir aux gens un départ – ou un nouveau départ – dans leur carrière, afin qu’ils puissent avoir du succès, aient un but en faisant partie de notre communauté et contribuent à la diversité et au succès de notre économie. Je suis très impressionnée par l’engagement de tous, notamment notre personnel dévoué, notre armée de bénévoles, les membres de notre conseil et bien sûr, Iris Unger, notre extraordinaire directrice générale. Le succès durable des services de YES s’explique largement par l’approche novatrice de son personnel en matière de prestation de services.

Bien évidemment, YES continue d’être un joueur important dans l’écosystème de l’emploi en jouant un rôle d’intermédiaire auprès d’autres organismes et en participant à bon nombre de consultations gouvernementales. Nous continuons à effectuer des recherches pour mieux comprendre le marché de l’emploi et ajustons nos services en conséquence. Par exemple, en juin, nous avons publié les résultats d’une étude sur les obstacles et possibilités se présentant aux nouveaux arrivants anglophones au Québec qui envisagent de démarrer une entreprise ici. L’objectif était de mieux comprendre pourquoi tant d’entrepreneurs potentiels jetaient l’éponge et quels sont les défis auxquels sont confrontés les propriétaires d’entreprise.
YES CONTINUE D’ÊTRE UN JOUEUR IMPORTANT DE L’ÉCOSYSTÈME DE L’EMPLOI

Banque de ressources humaines de YES : mentorat rapide en ligne, en personne ou par vidéo.

JobPrepper : outil de formation en ligne qui guide les nouveaux chercheurs d’emploi dans toutes les étapes importantes du processus de recherche d’emploi.

Tutoriels en recherche d’emploi traitant du curriculum vitæ, du réseautage et des entrevues d’embauche.

Pour les entrepreneurs, séances Bootcamp sur le modèle commercial et la série d’ateliers « Start-Up Generator » traitant de la création de plans d’affaires.
Ce ne sont que quelques-uns des services que nous avons mis sur pied pour aider plus de 4 000 individus en 2016-2017, dont 2 000 chercheurs d’emploi et 2 048 entrepreneurs et artistes. YES remplit son mandat avec efficacité. 77 % de nos clients du programme de recherche d’emploi ont trouvé un emploi, ont démarré une entreprise ou sont retournés à l’école. Dans les trois dernières années, plus de 90 % de nos stagiaires ont été retenus pour des postes permanents à temps plein par leur employeur-hôte dans des entreprises telles que Cushman & Wakefield, Ultra Electronics Forensic Technology, Luxury Retreats et ALDO. En 2016-2017, nous avons aidé 540 entreprises à démarrer ou à se développer, dont 124 dans les régions du Québec.
Au fil des ans, nous avons remarqué qu’un nombre croissant de nouveaux arrivants avaient besoin d’aide : plusieurs personnes choisissent d’élire domicile à Montréal ou au Québec, mais ils ont du mal à trouver un emploi sérieux ou à fonder ou à développer leur propre entreprise ici, particulièrement lorsqu’ils ne sont pas de langue maternelle française. Chez YES, nous offrons des services en anglais qui aident des milliers de Québécois, diplômés internationaux de nos universités locales, talents immigrants et leur famille, et nouveaux arrivants à être prêts pour notre marché. Nous révisions continuellement notre plan stratégique afin de mieux anticiper les besoins du marché et voir comment nous pouvons mieux servir nos clients. UN MESSAGE DE LA DIRECTRICE GÉNÉRALE Chaque année, YES accueille à son Centre plus de 4 000 chercheurs d’emploi, entrepreneurs et artistes à la recherche de conseils, soutien et services alors qu’ils s’engagent dans un processus de recherche d’emploi, lancent ou développent leur entreprise ou cherchent à gagner leur vie avec leur art. La demande pour ces services ne cesse de croître, tout comme la complexité des besoins. Les données démographiques de notre clientèle unique et diversifiée se composent de plus en plus de nouveaux arrivants, jeunes à risque et personnes souffrant de dépression et de stress situationnels provenant d’une incertitude économique. C’est en réponse directe à ces tendances que YES continue d’investir et de développer des programmes de base, des initiatives novatrices et son personnel de professionnels. Nous sommes très fiers de répondre à ces changements et de voir les résultats positifs auprès de nos clients. Les faits saillants de l’an dernier vont de la création d’un nouveau programme intensif pour jeunes artistes qui répond à leurs besoins spécifiques, à l’offre d’outils excitants et de nouvelles façons de développer les compétences grâce à notre ressource ludique en ligne, JobPrepper, sans oublier le développement continuel de notre programme de mentorat sous forme de banque de ressources humaines qui permet de jumeler des mentors et des mentorés en ligne.

YES a également travaillé avec ardeur avec ses nombreux partenaires pour effectuer des recherches sur les problèmes qui affectent les communautés minoritaires anglophones, ce qui nous permettra de nous équiper, ainsi que la communauté, d’informations qui nous aideront à offrir des services spécifiques qui traiteront des tendances émergentes de manière significative. J’aimerais remercier le personnel de YES pour son travail acharné et son engagement envers l’excellence, de même que pour l’empathie et la passion démontrées dans leur travail. Je souhaite remercier tout spécialement notre conseil d’administration dont la sagesse aide à guider notre organisation. Cette année fut une année de croissance et d’innovation et le personnel et le conseil ont traversé ensemble cette période excitante de l’histoire de YES. PROGRAMME DE RECHERCHE D’EMPLOI SUR LE TERRAIN Notre valeureuse équipe de conseillers en emploi travaille annuellement avec plus de 2 000 jeunes adultes qui cherchent à mieux se préparer pour un marché de l’emploi qui est plus difficile et plus fermé et qui présente des taux élevés de chômage ou de sous-emploi. Le Centre YES continue de constater une augmentation des clients de tous les milieux et de toutes les situations qui ont besoin de soutien afin de trouver un emploi; des nouveaux diplômés à la recherche de leur premier emploi à temps plein, des professionnels formés à l’étranger nouvellement arrivés au Québec, de jeunes à risque et d’autres qui sont confrontés à des problèmes de santé mentale en raison du chômage. Les défis auxquels sont confrontés les chercheurs d’emploi d’aujourd’hui sont variés et nombreux, et comme organisation, YES s’engage à s’assurer que les jeunes de tous les milieux aient le potentiel et l’habilité de réussir et de contribuer à notre communauté et à notre économie. Cette année, nous avons reçu à notre Centre plus de 7 800 visites de jeunes confrontés à des obstacles en emploi. Pour aider les chercheurs d’emploi à être prêts et à augmenter leurs chances de trouver un emploi, ils ont bénéficié d’une orientation professionnelle individuelle et du soutien en emploi et ont accès à des ateliers en stratégies de carrière, rédaction de CV, préparation à l’entrevue et aux principes fondamentaux et compétences en réseautage.

DANS LA COMMUNAUTÉ En collaboration avec Service Canada, nous demeurons résolus à nous assurer que les jeunes diplômés sont en mesure d’effectuer une transition tout en douceur entre l’école et le travail et à avoir la chance de trouver un emploi à long terme. Grâce à une formation sur place, notre PROGRAMME DE STAGE RÉMUNÉRÉ a aidé 17 nouveaux diplômés à intégrer le marché du travail et à acquérir des compétences et expériences pratiques dans leur domaine. 90 % de ces candidats ont été retenus pour occuper des postes permanents à temps plein dans des entreprises telles que Cushman & Wakefield, Ultra Electronics Forensic Technology, Luxury Retreats et ALDO. Nos GROUPES DE SOUTIEN POUR L’EMPLOI DE PAIRS, connus sous le nom de GROUPES DE DISCUSSION, aident les individus confrontés à des périodes de chômage prolongées à avoir accès à un environnement sécuritaire et accueillant où ils peuvent développer des compétences et des stratégies dont ils ont besoin pour améliorer leur confiance et leurs habiletés d’adaptation. Cette année, nos GROUPES DE DISCUSSION ont accueilli jusqu’à 66 jeunes dans des moments de besoins urgents et 70 % d’entre eux ont trouvé un emploi ou sont retournés à l’école après avoir complété le programme. Les participants ont été en mesure de surmonter leur ambivalence sans subir de pression et de parler de leurs préoccupations face à l’emploi dans une atmosphère accueillante. L’expansion de notre PLATEFORME DE MENTORAT ET BANQUE DE RESSOURCES HUMAINES en ligne a jeté les bases de liens plus significatifs entre les jeunes professionnels et les bénévoles chevronnés; 137 jumelages mentor-mentorés ont été effectués au cours de la dernière année afin d’aider les individus à atteindre leurs objectifs professionnels.

Ayant déménagé à Montréal sans savoir vraiment comment trouver un emploi, où trouver un emploi ou comment me créer un réseau dans un endroit jamais visité auparavant, j’ai suivi le conseil de ma conseillère en emploi chez YES. Elle m’a suggéré de participer à une journée portes ouvertes pour les nouvelles entreprises de la métropole et m’a communiqué un plan simple et direct. La semaine suivante, on me contactait pour une entrevue chez Ajah, une entreprise de logiciels basée à Montréal, et j’ai été embauché le jour suivant. Je ne travaille pas chez Ajah depuis longtemps, mais j’adore mon travail. Je travaille sur des projets de données qui m’intéressent et il semble y avoir plusieurs possibilités d’avancements; Je suis très enthousiaste face à l’avenir. Je n’aurais pas découvert cette occasion si ce n’était du très bon conseil que j’ai reçu chez YES.

PROGRAMME DE RECHERCHE D’EMPLOI TECHNOLOGIE Capter l’attention des chercheurs d’emploi passifs et actifs d’aujourd’hui et les motiver suffisamment afin qu’ils passent à l’action exigent d’emprunter toutes les avenues à notre disposition, et nous offrons du soutien des façons les plus novatrices qui soient. Nous avons développé nos services en ligne de recherche d’emploi, produit une série de vidéos mettant en lumière différentes carrières et développé un outil d’apprentissage en ligne, JobPrepper, qui nous dote d’un nouveau média nous permettant de rejoindre les jeunes d’aujourd’hui qui se tournent de plus en plus vers la technologie pour accéder aux informations.
Grâce à la technologie, nous offrons de nouvelles façons de maitriser les principales compétences d’employabilité aux jeunes d’aujourd’hui. Près de 400 jeunes ont fait l’essai de notre outil JobPrepper et plus de 4 400 ont visionné les vidéos de notre banque de ressources humaines.

Nous avons développé JOBPREPPER, un outil d’apprentissage en ligne pour permettre aux nouveaux diplômés et travailleurs peu expérimentés de comprendre les rudiments du processus de recherche d’emploi d’une façon amusante et interactive. Il offre également des conseils, des trucs et des anecdotes amusantes des conseillers en emploi de YES que les utilisateurs peuvent mettre immédiatement en pratique.
Nous avons produit et lancé une série de dix vidéos donnant un aperçu d’une « journée » dans différentes options de carrière. Ces vidéos aident dans la recherche et les choix de carrière en donnant un aperçu des vies professionnelles des personnes œuvrant dans différents domaines. Les vidéos ont été visionnés plus de 4 400 fois sur YouTube.
JobPrepper a été présenté aux informations matinales à Global et a reçu énormément d’attention et de rayonnement sur les sites Web locaux, blogues, Facebook, Twitter et pages LinkedIn. www.yesjobprep.com

PROGRAMME DE RECHERCHE D’EMPLOI RAYONNEMENT ET COLLABORATION Nous continuons de travailler en étroite collaboration avec des organismes communautaires de la province qui offrent des services d’emploi au Québec afin d’identifier les problèmes et préoccupations auxquels sont confrontés les fournisseurs de services en anglais. En novembre 2016, nous avons organisé, en collaboration avec le réseau de la table ronde des services d’emploi, un congrès en table ronde afin de discuter de résilience et autres problèmes critiques pour ainsi développer des directives pratiques pour la résolution de ces problèmes.

Par la même occasion, nous en avons profité pour souligner le travail de Madame Lori Rubinger, directrice des initiatives stratégiques chez Agence Ometz, en lui présentant le prix May Polsky créé par YES il y a trois ans pour souligner une contribution extraordinaire dans les services d’emploi de langue anglaise. Lori s’implique dans le domaine de l’emploi depuis de nombreuses années et a fait activement partie du comité organisateur du congrès en table ronde. Elle a œuvré comme conseillère pendant plus de 20 ans et nous a partagé plusieurs excellentes idées de sujets et de conférenciers, elle a également été la présidente du comité du congrès, en plus d’y avoir déjà fait une présentation. LORI RUBINGER RECEVANT LE PRIX MAY POLSKY Le personnel de YES participe régulièrement à des réunions avec les gouvernements fédéraux et provinciaux, des organismes communautaires et des institutions d’enseignement pour discuter de questions touchant l’emploi, le travail autonome et les problèmes auxquels sont confrontées les minorités anglophones.
RECHERCHE Nous avons développé conjointement avec des partenaires locaux et régionaux une ÉTUDE SUR L’ÉVALUATION DES BESOINS EN EMPLOI DANS LES RÉGIONS DU QUÉBEC afin d’identifier les lacunes en matière de services et développer des recommandations sur comment aider à renverser le taux de chômage qui est plus élevé chez les jeunes anglophones des régions du Québec. Les principales conclusions ont révélé que : •
97 % des chercheurs d’emploi en région considèrent que le chômage chez les jeunes est un problème pour l’économie du Québec.

86 % des chercheurs d’emploi en région sondés considèrent qu’il est « assez difficile » ou « très difficile » de trouver un emploi dans leur domaine spécifique et 96 % des chercheurs d’emploi sondés considèrent qu’il est « assez difficile » ou « très difficile » de trouver un emploi dans leur région spécifique.

La langue a été identifiée comme étant le plus grand obstacle à l’emploi dans les régions du Québec et 82 % des chercheurs d’emploi en région ont cité le bilinguisme comme étant une compétence d’employabilité importante.
L’emploi dans les régions du Québec : L’étude d’évaluation des besoins a été développée en collaboration avec le Committee for Anglophone Social Action (CASA), la Corporation de développement de la communauté d’expression anglaise de Megantic (MCDC), la North Shore Community Alliance (NSCA), l’Association des Townshippers, Voice of English-speaking Québec (VEQ) et l’Association régionale des voisins de Rouyn-Noranda. L’étude a été distribuée aux principaux intervenants notamment les agences gouvernementales, les organismes communautaires et les établissements d’enseignement.
PROGRAMME D’ENREPRENEURIAT SUR LE TERRAIN Nos dévoués coachs d’affaires travaillent chaque année avec des milliers d’entrepreneurs qui souhaitent démarrer ou développer leur entreprise au Québec. Nous aidons depuis longtemps les individus, entreprises et communauté à croitre et à prospérer. Nos programmes sont conçus pour favoriser le succès de nouvelles entreprises et aider les entreprises québécoises existantes à se développer. Tout au long de l’année, nous œuvrons à nous assurer que chaque entrepreneur de la province a accès à des ressources et informations essentielles en offrant gratuitement des formations et des accompagnements professionnels, du mentorat, des recherches et des renseignements sur l’accès au financement tant à notre Centre, qu’en ligne. Cette année, grâce à nos efforts soutenus et constants, nous avons aidé 2 128 entrepreneurs à consolider leurs opérations et aidé à lancer ou développer quelque 538 entreprises au Québec, dont 124 entreprises en région.

DANS LA COMMUNAUTÉ Cette année, nous avons continué à travailler en étroite collaboration avec nos partenaires régionaux du Québec dans le but de développer et renforcer nos partenariats et collaborations, consolider notre capacité à offrir des services indispensables aux entrepreneurs dans les communautés rurales et non desservies. Nous nous engageons à continuer à servir le plus de gens possible. Nous avons amélioré nos services en ligne en procédant à l’ajout d’ateliers, de formations, de mentorat et d’occasions de réseautage afin de les rendre plus ciblés, pertinents et accessibles pour les personnes vivant en région.
RAYONNEMENT ET COLLABORATION Nous sommes toujours un Partenaire local de Futurpreneur Canada, un programme offrant du soutien en financement, mentorat et ressources éducatives aux jeunes entrepreneurs de 18 à 39 ans. Cette année, nos coachs d’affaires ont aidé des entreprises en démarrage à obtenir quelque 112 500 $ en prêts par le biais des programmes Futurpreneur et BDC.

PROGRAMME D’ENREPRENEURIAT En avril 2016, nous avons rassemblé des experts et chefs de file du milieu des affaires québécois à l’occasion de notre 19e congrès d’entrepreneuriat « Ignite : un événement pour esprits entrepreneuriaux» dans un effort concerté pour appuyer et susciter l’engagement entre les entrepreneurs en devenir.

RECHERCHE Au cours de l’année, nous sommes demeurés déterminés à faire avancer la recherche sur les besoins de la communauté minoritaire anglophone et à uniformiser les services pour les entrepreneurs, notamment les nouveaux arrivants et les femmes en STIM. Il est évident que plus de femmes que jamais poursuivent leurs études en science, technologies, ingénierie et mathématiques (STIM), et que de plus en plus de femmes sont embauchées dans les industries STIM ou qu’elles utilisent leurs connaissances en STIM dans leur milieu de travail. Toutefois, des études démontrent que les femmes en STIM n’avancent toujours pas au même rythme que leurs collègues masculins. Certains indices montrent également que plus de femmes quittent l’industrie des STIM que d’hommes. En réponse à cette situation, nous avons commencé à travailler avec des entreprises pour développer de meilleures pratiques visant à encourager l’embauche et l’avancement des femmes anglophones de tous âges dans les petites et moyennes entreprises en STIM et nous nous sommes associés à des entreprises STIM locales telles que SAP Labs Canada et CAE INC. (Canadian Aviation Electronics) pour créer un modèle de mentorat spécifique qui aidera les organisations œuvrant en STIM à retenir et à développer les talents de leur personnel féminin.
Après de rigoureuses consultations avec le comité-conseil de projets de YES, et en collaboration avec notre groupe de travail, « ADVANCE : L’OUTIL DE MENTORAT POUR LES FEMMES EN STEM » a été créé en septembre 2016. Cet outil a été développé en collaboration avec un comitéconseil qualifié et diversifié pour répondre spécifiquement aux besoins des petites et moyennes entreprises. Advance est en cours d’implantation dans trois entreprises locales pilotes soit : IC Axon, CAE et Netmail. Les résultats du projet pilote seront utilisés pour obtenir de précieux conseils et déterminer des recommandations pour le lancement d’une plateforme de mentorat adaptable qui pourra être implantée dans de petites et moyennes entreprises au Canada. L’OUTIL DE MENTORAT ADVANCE
PROGRAMME POUR ARTISTES SUR LE TERRAIN Notre dévoué artiste-coach travaille avec des centaines d’artistes établis et émergents de tous âges et disciplines pour s’assurer qu’ils disposent des compétences, stratégies et outils professionnels dont ils ont besoin pour leur permettre de développer des carrières viables et rentables dans la communauté artistique du Québec, réputée pour être solide et dynamique. YES est pleinement consciente que le fait de poursuivre une carrière artistique peut être synonyme d’isolement pour plusieurs artistes, ceci étant encore plus vrai pour ceux qui vivent dans des régions rurales ou éloignées où l’accès aux services représente un défi. Nous avons répondu à ce besoin en offrant des ressources en ligne, de même que des séances d’accompagnement et des ateliers par vidéoconférence dans le but de rejoindre un plus grand nombre d’artistes ayant besoin de soutien. Nous collaborons chaque année avec des organismes artistiques et développons des partenariats dans l’ensemble de la province pour nous assurer que les artistes bénéficient d’un plus grand réseau lorsqu’ils fondent leur entreprise ou optent pour une carrière en arts. En 2016-2017, le Centre YES a appuyé 392 artistes locaux qui ont utilisé nos programmes et services à 1 101 occasions.

En décembre 2016, nous avons lancé l’initiative Compétences d’affaires pour jeunes créateurs, qui ciblait les jeunes artistes émergents à risque, et proposait des compétences en affaires par le biais d’ateliers se terminant par une initiative génératrice de revenus avec leur propre œuvre (ex. occasions de contrat, rentabilisation d’une œuvre d’art, etc.). La première cohorte de 13 jeunes artistes-entrepreneurs a terminé le programme avec succès et s’est vu offrir une première occasion de montrer son travail et d’appliquer ses compétences dans un environnement professionnel lors de notre congrès annuel pour artistes : Compétences d’affaires pour âmes créatrices.

À quel moment ai-je décidé d’être un artiste? Pour être honnête, je ne m’en souviens pas. Depuis que je suis avec YES, ma prise de décision est plus affirmée; mon coach me présente toujours divers scénarios pendant nos séances et m’aide à minimiser les risques en m’aidant à comprendre un environnement qui devient de plus en plus clair et gérable pour moi de jour en jour. L’aide et les conseils que j’ai reçus, et que je continue de recevoir, de la part de YES, m’ont été très bénéfiques et se sont avérés essentiels pour atteindre les réussites suivantes : devenir membre des Métiers d’art du Québec, faire une présentation au Salon des métiers d’art de Montréal et remporter un stage de 2 mois à l’étranger remis par le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

Afin d’augmenter notre rayonnement et nos efforts pédagogiques, nous avons organisé une soirée spéciale de réseautage en septembre 2016 afin de permettre aux artistes locaux et organisations artistiques d’apprendre à mieux se connaître. L’événement incluait notamment de courtes séances de promotion où les artistes et organisations présentaient leurs services. La participation a été impressionnante alors que plus de 50 artistes et représentants de la communauté artistique locale étaient présents. .
PROGRAMME POUR ARTISTES Le président de Secret City Records, Justin West, est interviewé par l’animateur de CBC, Sonali Karnick, au Congrès des artistes qui s’est tenu à la STA (Société des arts technologiques) en mars 2017.

Nous avons continué à miser sur nos forces pour jumeler les artistes à des événements locaux et régionaux et en faisant appel à la technologie pour rendre l’information plus accessible pour les artistes de la province et en offrant des outils et des compétences d’affaires essentiels par le biais de notre congrès annuel pour artistes. Plus de 140 artistes de diverses disciplines ont participé et échangé lors de cette journée d’information, d’inspiration et d’échange.
YES DANS LES MÉDIAS Une stratégie de communication solide et constante s’avère la pierre angulaire de notre mission qui consiste à nous mettre en contact avec notre communauté. Puisque notre objectif est d’atteindre le plus grand nombre d’individus possible, nous assurer que notre travail obtienne la plus grande couverture médiatique demeure un de nos principaux objectifs. En 2016-2017, nous avons continué à rejoindre un plus grand nombre de Québécois par le biais de divers canaux : presse imprimée, radio, télévision, médias sociaux et sites Web. Nous avons également poursuivi nos efforts pour créer des articles traitant des principaux problèmes de l’emploi et de l’entrepreneuriat, qui ont été publiés dans les médias de la province, incluant le Laval Families Magazine et Mainstreet, le seul journal anglophone des Laurentides.

Cette édition marquait le 10e anniversaire de l’événement et nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer qu’il s’agit de notre événement le plus réussi jusqu’à maintenant alors que quelque 300 partisans ont amassé 98 887 $. Ces fonds sont primordiaux pour nous aider à continuer à répondre aux besoins de notre clientèle grandissante, alors que nous demeurons engagés à aider les jeunes chercheurs d’emploi, entrepreneurs et artistes du Québec à réussir. Nous apprécions grandement le travail de notre comité organisateur, nos nombreux bénévoles et, évidemment, la générosité de nos donateurs et commanditaire, qui ont tous contribué à rendre cet événement mémorable. CAMPAGNE DE FINANCEMENT PAR PUBLIPOSTAGE Notre campagne de publipostage nous permet d’entrer en contact avec nos donateurs et partisans pendant que nous faisons la rétrospective de nos succès et planifions nos objectifs pour l’année à venir. Les dons annuels nous aident à nous assurer que les chercheurs d’emploi, entrepreneurs et artistes peuvent continuer à bénéficier d’un large éventail de services offerts par YES chaque année. YES s’engage à répondre aux besoins et réalités de la communauté locale, et le fait d’appuyer notre campagne de financement annuelle par publipostage est un des nombreux moyens pour les donateurs d’appuyer notre mission. Cette année, nous avons dépassé notre objectif de 35 000 $ et avons amassé près de 45 000 $, nous vous remercions pour votre soutien et votre engagement!
