A family run, independent garden centre...
In the beginning, mid 1950’s Norman Wall ran a landscape gardening business from Saltersgill Allotments in Middlesbrough. Later he progressed to buying a piece of land at the top of the hill on the Acklam to Stokesley Road approximately 6 miles away from Middlesbrough Town Centre, he along with his wife named the site Cherry Hill Nurseries. The original nursery was 1 1/2 acres in size.
Secondhand greenhouses and some sheds propagated, grew on and sold ornamental garden plants. Trees and shrubs were grown and sold from the open ground, with larger shrubs in plastic bag pots. Norman also ran a successful landscape gardening service within
the surrounding Teesside area. Norman and his wife had 3 daughters who all assisted with the business which increased in size and became more of a garden centre, selling garden merchandise and later a café at the turn of the century.
In 2010 Cherry Hill was purchased by Michael and Peter Wilkinson who owned Wilkinson’s Landscapes and Plant Centre at Eaglescliffe near Teesside Airport. The purchase by the two brothers helped spread costs and resources between the two companies, some of the Eaglescliffe team transferred to Cherry Hill and continue to work at Cherry Hill today. Investment continued over the years to update and improve the garden centre.
Since 2010 further land has been bought to increase the car park and horticultural growing areas. In 2022 Cherry Hill started to grow Pumpkins.
As one of the largest local independent garden centres in the area, we continue to look to the future making improvements that benefit our customers and create a pleasing, interesting environment that our customers continue to enjoy and feel part of. When it comes to our range, we offer everything perfect for the season from plants,
compost and gravels to water features, garden furniture, pet care and home gifts! We pride ourselves that our staff are all experts in their own fields and there is always someone onhand to offer help and advice. We also offer a great aftercare service, our goal is to help you get the very best from your garden for years to come.
Our Plant Centre...
We carry a vast range of plants from alpines to mature trees. We have an A-Z of shrubs, herbaceous perennials, conifers, bedding plants, herbs, water-plants, topiary, roses, bamboos ... the list is endless!
Our friendly plant centre staff can offer helpful advice to all types of gardeners, whether you are a novice and need guidance on what’s best for your garden and how to look after it, or an expert gardener looking to further develop your knowledge.
Water Features
We sell a range of resin and granite water features, our range includes indoor water features, water pumps, hose and lighting.
Seasonal Events at Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill has built an outstanding reputation for the seasonal events we hold.
Halloween is a busy time of year at Cherry Hill with both an indoor and outdoor ‘scary walks’. In 2022 we launched the outdoor walk which featured live actors for those extra scary moments, along with a pumpkin picking patch for some all-round family fun. This year we are extending our pumpkin growing areas and hoping to have more varieties of pumpkins to grow.
Santa is always in our grotto come Christmas time, and live reindeer stay with us in our Christmas Walk, which is a spectacular display of lights, animatronic characters and all things ‘Christmassy’! Last year Mrs Claus came to visit us for the first time to hold some fantastic crafting classes with the little ones, and we’re excited to announce she will be returning this year. Other popular seasonal events include Breakfast with Santa and Storytime with Santa plus we’ve a few more festive treats coming this way soon!

Virtual Reality at Cherry Hill
Here at Cherry Hill we love to offer that something a little bit different, and that includes our Virtual Reality Ride offering a perfect family attraction all year round! Step inside a whole new world as you walk through a mini experience into the launch room. Currently home to the wildest Jungle Boat ride experience, seating up to 6 people, you climb aboard the Jungle Boat. Once aboard, you’ll be seamlessly transported into the virtual boat house, using our HD VR headsets. Your intrepid journey will soon begin, along with the incredible range of motions our boat has to offer; two front fans and surround sound for a fully immersive 3D experience. The boats movements have been specially designed to mirror those of the full 360 degree experience, creating a truly spectacular experience for the whole family. The fun doesn’t end there though, we also offer a Halloween VR Ride Spooktacular and a wonderfully magical trip to the North Pole for Christmas so there’s a ride for every season!

Cherry Hill Cafe
Our 5-star licenced cafe offers a delightful range of home-cooked foods and delicious afternoon teas. We also cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets. The cafe has comfortable indoor seating plus our conservatory area which offers magnificent views of the Cleveland Hills to enjoy whilst spending quality time with friends and family. We are dog-friendly so you can bring your furry friends along for the day out!
The Café has been improved and extended several times over the years. In 2018 we added a new roof and flooring along with a toilet block to our conservatory area to the rear of the existing cafe. Kitchen, pot wash and storage areas have been improved and extended to meet modern standards and create a more efficient working environment.
In 2023 we opened a pottery painting area and additional servery area within the existing cafe. The Pottery Painting area housed a specific kiln room and pottery preparation area. This was an event that you could enjoy as a one off with family and friends, or attend one of the regular classes that would be held. The additional servery now open for 2024 allows the sale of soft scoop ice-cream amongst other café niceties. A further part of the café improvements included a function area that can be used for talks, meetings and a space for birthday parties, baby showers and other family events. Work has been carried out, by large extent, by our own garden centre team, using recycled materials used from the previous café area. Electrics and plumbing have been improved with insulated walls and ceiling to maintain energy efficiency.
Cafe opening hours: Mon-Sat 9.30am to 5pm*, Sunday 10.30am til 4pm* *hot food served until 3.30pm Mon-Sat, 3pm on a Sunday

Delivery Service
We have our own delivery service offering deliveries every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Delivery charges apply based on area of delivery. Delivery to local areas is only £12 and free when you spend over £200.
