Fresh Fruit and Vegetables are Good For You - Who Knew? Let’s face it – we all did – Fresh fruit and veg are good for your heart and soul. The beginning of my story finds me working for a wholesale fruit and veg company supplying local retailers. Never really happy with this job, I always felt there was more I could be doing to advance myself. The idea struck me that with my connections in the wholesale vegetable business, I could set up and run a home delivery service into my community and free myself from my existing job. My initial research amongst the community repeatedly told me they weren’t interested in home deliveries but a shop instead. How could I doubt this, after all, it had come from the court of the last appeal, the public. When I announced this to my family, who were very supportive, I asked the question, if we do this, what are we going to call the shop. Without hesitation, my older son replied in a matter-of-fact way you should call it the “veggie patch” daddy, as he walked out of the door. And thus out of the mouths of babes came a gem, and the company was born. Two and a half years later, having gone through all the growing pains, we have emerged successful with a strong user base and are expanding yearly. This success is partly due to our in-shop experience, entering the shop, you can expect to see British strawberries from nearby Taunton, hand-picked the day

before for ripeness - and a very low volume of prepacked fruit and veg. The absence of packaged products can be put down to sensory marketing: “Our customers want to choose their own produce, “They value our high quality and enjoy the experience of picking out great product based on sight, smell, touch, and taste” The major supermarkets may often claim that’s how they work too – but it’s far harder to achieve on their scale and with their costs structures. To have a local name and truly local business attached to a community can mean so much, small businesses fuel a local community and provide an area with social capital. The pounds spent with independent businesses tend to stay in the community, providing work for local tradespeople, accountants, and marketers. We bring Great Value, Great Produce from around the World AND No Plastics It’s a long story, but fruit and vegetables have a lot to answer for! We so often take our diet for granted, but there is nothing more delicious to the eye or the belly than a bowl of fruit, a delicious salad, or a nice selection of vegetables. Fireplaces & Stoves Wood-Burning Stove or Open Fire? A fireplace isn’t just about keeping your house warm. They’re visually stunning and a feast for the senses. But where to start when it comes to choosing what’s right for your home? Here we take a look at the pros and cons of the two big contenders: wood burning stoves and open fires to help you decide. Open Fires A roaring open fire lends splendour to a room. From feeling the raw heat against your skin to the smell of burning logs permeating your house, there’s a certain draw that for many cannot be resisted.

families with young children, and those with busy lives who may find it taxing to maintain the upkeep of an open fire which may sometimes prove a bit messy. Finally, if you’re after more of a relaxed feel within your house, a wood-burner can be fitted within a corner in a family room and even a kitchen. So, you can enjoy the atmosphere of an open fire in a smaller, more contained setting.

Not only that, but the mantelpiece around an open fire can act as a stunning focal point to your room. Perfect for those who shun the television and prefer to snuggle up with a good book, seating can be arranged around an open fire to create a convivial mood that’s best enjoyed with good friends and a glass of something delicious. When it comes to creating an ambience that can be enjoyed all year around, an open fire is hard to beat. Wood-Burners When it comes to keeping your house warm, wood-burners are most definitely the front runners in this race. Many makes and models are highly efficient, with the ability to regulate the heat they provide and, crucially, how fast fuel is burned. Not only that but with regular upkeep and maintenance, a wood-burner can be left to its own devices without constant supervision unlike an open fire. This is particularly good for busy

Showroom & Installers

We stock a range of premium brand stoves which include Hunter, ACR and Mendip to name but a few. On display there is a range of stoves to suit all styles and budgets and we offer a comprehensive in house HETAS installation service.

Safeguard the Future for your Family

WILLS - TRUSTS - POWERS OF ATTORNEY Most of us know that we should have a Will yet only around 1 in 3 of us has actually so far written their Will. The consequences of NOT having a Will would be devastating to the future of YOUR family not only Financially but equally damaging to their Emotional and Physical well being. • Consider If you do NOT have a Will 1. Your Spouse or Partner could end up with less than you had planned or even nothing at all (if unmarried). 2. Your Loved ones may have the Estate reduced by Inheritance Tax, which could have been reduced or eliminated. 3. Your Home may be sold and used to pay Local Authority Care Home Fees. 4. Delays may occur to winding up your Estate causing prolonged and unnecessary additional grief. 5. Your Children aged under 18 may be taken immediately in to Foster Care by Social Services until the Family Court appoints suitable Guardians. 6. Your Next of Kin may be appointed as an Executor which may not be their choice at such a difficult and emotional time. 7. Your Wishes to provide for unmarried partners, step children, friends, pets and charities would be completely forgotten.

• Consider If you do NOT have a suitable Family Trust or Property Trust Business Trust 1. How Much of Your Estate, including your home, would you be prepared to pay for Long Term Care? 2. What would happen to Your Children Inheritance if your Spouse or Civil Partner remarried after your Death? 3. What would happen to your Grandchildren's Inheritance of your Son or Daughter were to Divorce or Die themselves? 4. Would you be happy for Your Grandchildren to lose 40% of your Estate in Inheritance tax? 5. How would you feel if your Estate ended up in the hands of someone you had never even met? 6. How would you ensure that your Business passes through to your chosen beneficiaries without paying taxes? 7. Your Family's Inheritance would NOT be protected for YOUR Bloodline for the next 125 years! • Consider if you do NOT have Powers of Attorney for Health & Welfare and Property & Financial affairs. 1. Who would you trust to look after your affairs if you were no longer able to manage them? 2. Could you manage if you are in the 1 in 3 of us that is likely to be diagnosed with Cancer at some point in our life?

3. How would you manage if you are in the 1 in 2 of us that is likely to be diagnosed with Dementia in later life? Using Trusts to Protect your legacy for your Family By leaving 'absolute' gifts in your Will • Your Son or Daughter's estranged Spouse could receive a nice windfall. • Your Husband or Wife who goes in to care after your Death may be forced to use your estate to pay for that care. • Your Grandchildren or Great Grandchildren under age 18 may use that Inheritance unwisely. By making gifts via a Trust you will be able to • Protect your Son or Daughter from losing their Inheritance in a divorce. • Reduce the risk of losing your estate to the local Authority to pay for your spouses care. • Delay the gift to your Grandchild or Great Grandchild until they are responsible enough to appreciate it. These important issues will affect all of us and our families at some point in the future.
