The GERDA Botnia project—named after the GERontological DAtabase in the Bothnia Region—is a cooperation between Umeå University in Umeå, Sweden, and Åbo Akademi University and Novia University of Applied Sciences in Vasa, Finland. The aim of the project has been to provide tools for improvement of the living conditions of elderly inhabitants in the region. Therein, the main activities of the project have been to provide interdisciplinary research into a wide range of different areas concerning elderly people’s lives, to enhance knowledge and to conduct intervention studies and development projects focussing on the improvement of the well-being of elderly people. This publication is based on results from the GERDA Botnia project, addressing three main themes: dignity, participation and health.
