DESIGN BRIEF An Urban Intervention Of An Millenial Office @ Plot 2 In future URA urban plans for Holland Village, there would be an urban extension of commercial and residential areas next to the enclave. We were tasked to design a office for small, medium enterprises beside the enclave known for its casual night al fresco dining and drinking establishments populated by young white collared workers. In addition, we also had to consider the future of workplace for the future growing generation of millennials in the office workplace.

Night Observations

Spirit Of The Place Surrounded by rising modernist housing blocks, Holland village is an rare example of a low rise intimate scaled pedestrian oriented F&B urban environment. When night falls, the streets are closed off from vehicular traffic, allowing the F&B businesses to spill out onto the streets, creating the causal relaxing nightlife atmosphere.

Mapping The Development Of HV And Its Surroundings Unlike the high rise modernist HDB flats built during Singapore post war independence, Holland Village has its roots from British colonial planning. Despite Singapore rapid urban construction and renewal, Holland Village retained and developed its causal dining and drinking culture and atmosphere. Therefore any new development could retain and enhance the enclave.

A MILLENIAL OFFICE THAT RELATES TO HOLLAND VILLAGE While I struggled to think how a new office typology that respects Holland village context while caters to the new millennial working landscape, I came to realize the potential of Holland village urban streets, spaces and people in influencing the space and circulation layout of millennial offices.

16

3V 3 VILLAGES The Concept is to reinterpret the urban streets and human connections of Holland Village into an offices of 3 Villages, transforming the old mono functional office typology into a pedestrianized multi-functional spaces of work, auxiliary and resting spaces.

17

3 VILLAGES

3 MASSINGS - 6 storey office block split into 3 massing of 2 storeys each -Follow Holland village scale of mostly 2 storey shop-houses -Lift cores, risers, water closets and fire escape staircase concentrated in a 8.4 by 16.8m space

18

SPINE

SPINE -Main pedestrian entry route -Continuation of Holland Village existing spine -Act as spill out spaces -Multiple vistas of surroundings -Connect the different villages and streets within.

19

NODES

NODES -Double- volume resting places for public informal meeting/resting -Allow diagonal vistas of surroundings -Each node has unique spatial layout

20

SUB STREETS

SUB STREETS -Each village have two distinct sub-streets -Gallery and breakout spaces for privatized offices -Frame vistas of office surroundings

21

BACK-LANES

5. BACK-LANES -Informal resting places -Access to IT repair, printing and workshops -Single Volume and narrow spaces
