Indonesia Career Excellence 2022i

WELCOME MESSAGE

H.E. DR. DESRA PERCAYA

Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Kingdom, Ireland, and International Maritime Organization

Welcome to Indonesia Career Excellence (ICE) 2022. It is truly my pleasure to welcome you to the largest annual career event for Indonesians in the UK. For the past eights years, ICE has played a key role in providing Indonesian students in the UK the opportunity to gain career insights from employers and professionals. The Indonesian Embassy in London and myself champion this annual initiative, further advancing human capital development for our bright Indonesian talents.

Indonesians coming to the UK for further education is not new – I attained my higher education here. However, we are seeing an ever-increasing number of Indonesians gaining UK higher education degree and international exposure these days, making the work done by organisations like YIPA UK even more important to enable Indonesians to compete globally with new emerging skills.

Distinct from any other Indonesian career event, ICE in London is tailored to Indonesian students from leading UK universities, as it connects the students to employers with opportunities both across Europe and back home in Indonesia.

This annual career initiative is organised by YIPA UK in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and Global Indonesia Professionals Association

(GIPA), supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of State-owned Enterprises (MoSOE), Indonesian Embassy in London, British Embassy in Jakarta and BritCham Indonesia. ICE has strong track records to be an impactful initiative to promote career development of Indonesian students in the UK. A strong human capital is essential to the acceleration of Indonesia’s economic development, and university students across the UK can be a catalyst for this push.

As the breadth of participating companies at ICE continues to grow, more business entities are given the opportunity to leverage this career platform to tap into a pool of bright future leaders. From the Indonesian State-owned Enterprises to tech unicorns, I am deeply grateful to all of the participating companies for helping make this event a success.

On this occasion, let me on behalf of the Indonesian Embassy express our highest appreciation to ICE Organising Committee. I would also like to thank YIPA UK, ICAEW, GIPA, the British Embassy Jakarta, British Chamber of Commerce Indonesia for supporting this annual career event.

Indonesia Career Excellence 2022 1

CAREER EXCELLENCE

Hosted by the Young Indonesian Professionals’ Association in the UK (YIPA UK), Indonesia Career Excellence (ICE) is the biggest annual career event that brings Indonesian students across the UK to meet company representatives, gain employability insights, and network with professionals from different industries. ICE 2022 will provide Indonesian students in the UK with career opportunities in Indonesia, Asia, the UK and intergovernmental organisations, additionally organising an unprecedented Hackathon into the event.

FAIR PLENARY TALKS

Given the flexibility of Graduate Worker Visas, the focus on post-pandemic economic recovery, and the backdrop of Brexit brain drain, it is arguably the most conducive environment in the past decade for securing jobs in the UK as non-UK/EU nationals. Now in our 8th year, we are well-positioned to rise to the challenge by implementing these key changes:

• Re-focusing geographical coverage to only the UK instead of targeting the UK and EU as what we did the past two years during the pandemic

• Diversifying types of session to improve interactivity and functionality

• Reverting back to fully in-person format
