It works by stimulating the bowel muscles in the back passage, promoting a bowel movement.
What are the side-effects? • Diarrhoea – this may cause dehydration if it goes on for a long time. • Stomach pain/cramps. • Nausea and vomiting. • Burning feeling at the anus. When should I see a doctor? Go to the Acute Care & Emergency Department (A&E) immediately if you have • Constipation after using the suppository. • On and off diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting – this may be a sign of a blockage in the bowel. • Bleeding from your back passage, the anus. • A sudden change in bowel habits lasting more than 2 weeks.

Choose your position.
Wear gloves. Remove the wrapper.
Moisten the tip with water or water-based lubricating gel.
Lie down for 15 to 20 minutes and keep the suppository inside for as long as possible.
Gently insert the suppository with pointed tip into the anus.
It usually produces a bowel movement within 15 to 60 minutes.
