Who is a clinical psychologist?
In Singapore, clinical psychologists
are required to have at least 2 years of postgraduate training in Clinical
Psychology with coursework, research, and supervised clinical practice (Master/Doctoral). Clinical
psychologists are trained in conducting psychotherapy and
psychometric assessments.
What will happen when I first see a clinical psychologist?
The first visit allows you and your
psychologist to get to know each other and to understand the reasons
you are seeing a psychologist. You may be asked about your current difficulties and personal background.
How long and how often should I see a clinical psychologist for?
This will depend on the issue(s) you would like to work on. It is
recommended to keep psychotherapy between 8 to 12 sessions. More sessions can be offered if required which can be discussed with your psychologist. For assessments, it will typically take 1 to 2 sessions.
