Design thinking is a term used to represent a set processes by which design concepts are developed. include the ability to: (1) resolve ill-defined or strategies, (3) use abductive and productive reasoning, ic/spatial modeling media, for example, sketching And a five-phase description of the design innovation Meinel, and Leifer as (re)defining the problem, building, and testing

CIRKKO, a Spin-Off Fragrance Diffuser from the Imagery of Orchid.
Fragrances can create an atmosphere for us. Thus, we can have a situation shift or mentality change through the variety of scent.
The curved base of Cirkko provides an usage methods as to “swaying.”
With the swaying feature, the fragrance in the diffusor will float out gradually, so as the users can bring themselves into the atmosphere they desire by the additive effect of behavior and fragrance.

Curved Base/Bottle Cap
The slight curvature at the base of Cirkko allows the bottle to sway gently, so the fragrance will go out slowly. Moreover, users can manually make the fragrance more intense.
Feeling Surroubded by Fragrance
The cork transfers its function to stable the bottle when the bottle cap is converted into a base. Inlaided in the bottle and in the aromatic liquid, Cirkko not only has an olfactory function but also has a visual effect of being surrounded by the fragrancy.
Inversion and Conversion
Inversion, to control whether to diffuse or not via invert the function of the bottle cap(cork) and base. Conversion, convert users’ mentality by switching the bottle’s function. Cirkko can lead us to have an abstract psychological change through the physical turning action.

Design Process
At the beginning of the design process, we compiled hundreds of fragrance products cards, defined the two directions of the cross axis used in the perceptual map, and get information of products on the market currently in order to determine which direction should we go for the follow-up design process.
Meanwhile, since this is a cooperative project with the orchid research and development center of NCKU, it is also important to analyze the orchid they had provided. We observe and analyze orchid’s aroma, appearance, and imagery of orchid, etc., and put the result into the moodboard.
We also used persona to describe what kinds of customers we should target, so that we can have our design background context more thorough and reliable.

Perceptual Map
A perceptual map is used to find out the market positioning of a product through customer preferences analysis, which is the consequence of categorizing products that are both already on market and those that are still conceptual.
The two-axis we’ve chosen are “traditional function - technological function” and ”steadylively,” and we finally categorized the cards into 5 development directions, whose target customers are different from each other.
Younger generations and people who like to try new things
Technological function × Lively
Mixed media, unanticipated
Younger female who need healing time
Traditional function × Lively, Small size, Rounded shape, Multicolor, Low saturation
People who like distinctive styles
Traditional function × Neutral + Eye-catching appearance
Dynamic effect, Lighting effect
People with mediocre incomes and those who care about their living qualities
Technological function × Steady Electric, Minimalistic shape, Cylindrical shape, White tone
The elderly and hipsters
Traditional function × Steady Matte texture, Natural material

Imageboard
The orchid research and development center of NCKU provided orchids for us to observe its fragrance and form , by doing these, we can form an image of this flower then convey its concept via our design.
Orchid Characteristics:
∣Dynamic and Static
∣Mild
∣Rich in flavor
∣Multi-layered
∣Central diffusion
∣Ethereal

Persona
For defining the target customers and make this character concept even more specific and relevant to real life, we used persona in our design process. That is, to list the details of a person’s characteristics, and set the situation and timing for the character to use the diffuser.
Occasion:
01|Switch between working and relaxation.
02|Create a comfortable atmosphere.
