INTRO TO MARTIAL ARTS

This program is designed to expand your child’s knowledge of soccer. Through a mix of drills and games, students will safely learn hand-eye coordination, gross motor skills, and teamwork while having fun!

Intro to Martial Arts combines elements of multiple disciplines in its curriculum and emphasizes both philosophy and education. Students train in the fundamentals of martial arts while practicing self-discipline, focus, balance and strength. The class is designed to be an introduction to the various formats in a comfortable and fun learning environment.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

STARTS THE WEEK OF MARCH 28TH Sign up for our 12-week session of basketball at the Fall River YMCA! Weeks 1-2 will be skill evaluation and a draft by the coaches. The Rookies will have weekly skills & drills followed by game action on Saturdays. The Ballers will have weekly practices (one weeknight evening – TBD), followed by games on Saturdays. Your child will build relationships with other players and coaches while developing their basketball skills in games and practices for a competitive team experience. Times TBA. SELF CHECK-INS WITH A TRAINER By Appointment • Ages: 12+

Meet monthly with a trainer to discuss strategies for healthy eating and fitness to help you successfully attain and remain at your physical goal. Meeting will include a weigh-in, body fat analysis, and physical measurements. Members: $50

Stage A/B: Water Discovery and Exploration Ages 6 months - 2 years A parent/child class that introduces infants and toddlers to basic aquatic safety and skills.

Stage 1: Water Acclimation Pre-School: Ages 3-6 years Youth: Ages 7-14 years Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit the pool.

Stage 2: Water Movement Pre-School: Ages 3-6 years Youth: Ages 7-14 years Students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water.

Stage 3: Water Stamina Pre-School: Ages 3-6 years Youth: Ages 7-14 years Students learn how to swim safely for longer distances. Rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg actions are introduced.

Stage 4: Stroke Introduction Pre-School: Ages 3-6 years Youth: Ages 7-14 years Students develop stroke techniques in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick.

Stage 5: Stroke Development Youth: Ages 7-14 years Students work on stroke technique in all major competitive strokes.

Stage 6: Stroke Mechanics Youth: Ages 7-14 years Students refine stroke technique in all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

Beginner/Intermediate Adult Lessons: Ages 14+ Swimmers learn water safety techniques and skills while building confidence in the water. Swimmers will also be introduced to basic swimming strokes.

Learn proper weight training technique from a certified trainer. Class is designed to teach teens the right way to train while preventing injury and optimizing their potential.

Aikido means “the way of harmony with the force and principle of nature.” Aikido takes the joint locks and throws from jujitsu and combines them with the body movements of sword and spear fighting. Training involves physical, mental, spiritual, and ethical disciplines. Individuals train and progress at their own pace, finding harmony through personal development. AQUATIC SPECIALTY PROGRAMS YMCA SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION February 21st - 23rd | Course Fee: $175 Monday-Wednesday from 10:00am - 4:00pm Attendance every day is mandatory! This introductory course teaches the basic foundational skills needed to teach aquatic classes that are student-centered, value oriented, safe, and effective. Participants who successfully pass this course will receive a certification valid for 2 years. After successful completion of this course, instructors will be able to identify components of the YMCA Swim Lessons continuum, demonstrate the behaviors of an effective instructor, maintain an inclusive environment of learning while keeping order in a positive and safe environment, employ swim teaching techniques that break down the critical features of a swimmer’s skill progression at any age and stage and demonstrate the instructor’s role in the safety process and during an emergency. PRE-REQUISITES: • •

Minimum age of 16 years by course end date Current valid certifications in CPR-PRO (w/AED), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration. These classes are offered at the Gleason Family YMCA in advance of this class for those in need of one or more of these pre-requisites at additional cost:

MASTER’S STYLE SWIM CONDITIONING Ages: 15+

Increase your endurance, strength, speed and stroke effectiveness. Focus will be on drill work to increase current swim abilities while building the swimmer’s potential as an athlete. Participants must be able to swim 200 consecutive yards (4 laps/8 lengths) of Freestyle. Meets 2x per week.

SWIM TESTING Need a swim test for a sailing school, to crew a boat, for a GSA/ BSA badge, for Tabor Academy orientation or other reasons? Please contact our Aquatics Department to schedule an appointment. A $5 fee will be assessed for simple tests (<15 minutes); a $15 fee will be assessed for tests of 16-30 minutes.

February 22nd & 23rd • 12:30-2:30pm Over February break we will be offering a 2-day tumble clinic for any dancer interested in working on their skills.

WEIGHT TRAINING FOR WOMEN

We will be setting up our Tumble Track and all other tumble equipment. Class will focus on advanced tumbling skills, flexibility training, contortion tricks and more. There will be multiple instructors available to help assist dancers with individual goals (pending enrollment) and this clinic is open to both current dancers and their friends. VOLUNTEER The Full Plate Project relies solely on volunteers for help with the bagging and distribution. Our packing events take place at the Dartmouth YMCA, 267 Gulf Road, every Thursday and two Mondays each month.

1 in 8 people will go hungry in Southern New England due to the COVID Pandemic. Building on our existing programs, YMCA Southcoast has partnered with The Greater Boston Food Bank to launch the Full Plate Project. The Full Plate Project aims to address the growing lack of access to healthy, affordable food during economic struggles. The project will distribute 1 million pounds of food in 2021 to our members and neighbors.

VOLUNTEER GUIDE Sharing the Harvest Community Farm is a collaboration between the Dartmouth YMCA and the United Way of Greater New Bedford’s Hunger Commission. Sharing the Harvest is a volunteerdriven community farm established in 2006 as a grassroots effort to fight hunger and help feed our neighbors in need. All produce and cage-free eggs are donated to 19 local hunger relief programs throughout the southcoast region.

WHAT TO EXPECT

First and foremost, we expect everyone to have fun at the farm while we accomplish our work together. Expect hands-on learning. You will get dirty and muddy; all while having a good time in the field or greenhouse. All farm work is done outdoors, rain or shine. Unexpected weather; dress in layers! Make friends while volunteering alongside like-minded community members Learn about hunger, food origination, agriculture and volunteer stewardship.

GROUP INFORMATION

For groups larger than six, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at least one week in advance of expected volunteer date. We welcome groups of all sizes and abilities.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

We are currently not offering field trips to the farm. However, youth groups of up to 25 are encouraged to sign up for a day of service to learn about farming and food insecurity.
