Dear Friends,

S

omeone once said, “behind every effective not-for-profit agency are some effective community leaders.” The YMCA of Greater Williamson County is no exception to that rule. So, what does an effective not-forprofit agency look like? One possible way to consider measuring the effectiveness of a not-for-profit might be to gauge the level of “burden" that the not-for-profit “eases off the back” of local, regional, or state governments. Not-for-profits, like the YMCA, receive their charitable status because they provide necessary community services, and as a result, the government does not have to or can reduce the amount of taxes utilized for that purpose. Consequently, our taxes can be utilized for other pressing community benefits, which improves the quality of life for all of us. When a not-for-profit agency effectively funds and provides programs that develop youth, promotes health, relieves hunger, minimizes homelessness, etc. it creates community support in ways that traditional government-funded models often cannot. Community leaders volunteer, sponsor, donate, monitor, and fundraise to ensure that not-for-profit services are available to all and meet the community's expectations and the expectations of those that support it.

CONTENTS The not-for-profit model polices itself while internally adapting and responding to fluctuations in funding sources or the agency’s desire to expand. The 2019 YMCA of Greater Williamson County Annual Report focuses on the events and activities that help fund the critical community services that our YMCA provides. Furthermore, this edition highlights the key volunteers that provide the leadership, whose resources, and behind the scenes momentum inspired and ensured the events’ success. Our YMCA is pleased to be associated with these phenomenal community leaders who, through their actions, have shown that our YMCA is a “charity of choice.” This designation validates the good work that we do and truly speaks to the value of our services and how they meet a pressing need in our community. We hope you enjoy this year’s report and, like us, find yourself celebrating and reflecting on the amazing people behind the scenes who bring the YMCA to life.

TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE GOOD

T

he YMCA of Greater Williamson County has a promise to our community to be a place that they can turn to for support when it’s needed most. With the help of our gracious donors, sponsors, and volunteers, the YMCA of Greater Williamson County worked year round to fund the Annual Campaign in 2019. 100% of every dollar raised for the Annual Campaign went directly back to the community to fund scholarships for YMCA programs such as: Childcare, Youth Sports, Outdoor Education, Military Support Camps, Swim Safe, Active Seniors, and so much more. The support from our donors and sponsors is not just a monetary donation, it is the hope and reassurance to those in our community that are living through uncertainty. It gives reassurance to a single parent that their child will have a safe place to go after school, to parents who are unable to afford to register their kids for youth sports, to a Veteran that struggles to support their family’s needs when returning home from active duty, or to a Senior who looks forward to that much needed face-to-face interaction

with their Y family. It is our commitment to never turn away someone in need, and because of your support we are able to keep that commitment. Thank you is never enough when it comes to YOU and the impact that you bring to our community, but we want to share a heartfelt “THANK YOU” to all of our volunteers, donors, sponsors and members for being a part of the YMCA of Greater Williamson County family and supporting our mission so that TOGETHER, we can continue to do more good.

t YMCA Camp Twin Lakes we are proud to offer an Outdoor Education program. This program offers teachers an opportunity to enhance student learning experiences without detracting from the base curriculum. This program enriches and reinforces classroom learning through engaging with the great outdoors. In 2019 we hosted over 1,100 students in our 3-day and 2-night Outdoor Education program. Through this program we were able to reach many students who would not have otherwise had the opportunity to explore camp and all it has to offer! We strive to help the participants grow in the YMCA’s five core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith. At Camp Twin Lakes we aim to provide a safe and positive environment for participants to engage and develop. We hope all participants leave with an appreciation for nature, feeling of accomplishment, strong self-esteem, lasting friendships and memories.

Christmas Dreams and Snowy things provides rides, inflatables, slides, food, and so much fun to the community! This event is held at the CHASCO Family YMCA in December offering all families of the community to come out and help spread the Christmas spirit. MCA of the Highland Lakes hosted the 2nd Annual Casino Night fundraiser for the YMCA Annual Campaign. Attendees enjoyed a night at the races in their own hometown! Games, silent auction, great food, and company was enjoyed by all. Thank you to our title sponsor DIJ Construction and all who attended to make this night a huge success. We raised over $40,000 to go toward the YMCA of the Highland Lakes new Teen Center coming in 2020. We could not have done this without the support of our sponsors: Camm and Louise Larry, Rockaway RV Park, Linda Bayless, Susan Henson DMD, PA, and Tristar Utilities.

he Seeds of Strength grant of $15,000 allowed the Georgetown YMCA to provide full-day summer camp for 4 weeks in July to 40 kids in grades 6-9. The funds specifically provided scholarships for kids of economically-disadvantaged families living and working in Georgetown. The Seeds of Strength program focuses on kids in grades 6th – 9th. Affordable youth programs and organizations can be hard to find, and the Georgetown Family YMCA is proud to offer a program to this age group who normally have a lack of activity geared towards them during the summer break. The Seeds of Strength program allowed for the YMCA to provide a variety of fun activities during the summer. The participants went on several different local daily field trips and had new experiences that they may not have ever had the chance to. Field trips from the Georgetown Public library to archery and BB gun practice at Camp Burnet. The summer was filled with lots of fun, lifelong friendships, and lasting memories!

Over the course of 2019; Getsemani has hosted countless soccer games, helped encourage little players, made parent potlucks/BBQ’s successful, provided translation for our Y programs, helped register youth who needed the Y, stored our supplies, and have most importantly helped our Georgetown community see the YMCA is truly for all.

outh and Government is a national program of the Y that involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized, model government programs. This is the 6th year the Y has participated in the Youth and Government program. This program provides leadership opportunities, civic engagement, and the opportunity to practice democracy. This year we attended the 2020 State Conference where we had a total of 5 Leander schools and 41 students attend. We competed in Legislative, Trial Court, and State Affairs. Of the 41 students who participated, 5 students received Outstanding Club Leader Awards, 3 students received Distinguished Delegate Awards, 4 students served in leadership positions and 1 school received the Premiere Delegation Award. For the first time, students from our Y were elected to be representatives. Amod was elected the Speaker of the House. While Athvait was elected as the House Clerk. Congratulations to all of our students! We are so proud of your hard work and dedication put into this program!

hatever endeavor Charlie involves himself in – politically or civically – he is all in. As mayor, he almost single-handedly helped recruit and get the Express Minor League Baseball team and Dell Diamond to Round Rock. Working with Reid Ryan he tirelessly sought voter approval to get what is now a fixture and marquis Triple A Astro minor league club to Round Rock. Secondly, he got a half-cent (1/2) sales tax passed to be used for transportation when, as a city, we were almost locked down with traffic congestion. Charlie was also part of organizing what is now the Toll Road Authority. All to help get Round Rock traffic moving. In all areas of civic club leadership and political leadership, Charlie is a respected leader and voice. His first thought is always what is good for Round Rock. Our city today would not be recognized as one of the best places in America if it had not been for Charlie. YMCA of Greater Williamson County » 2019 A N N U A L I M P A C T R E P O R T
