Welcome to the Hollywood Wilshire YMCA! Dear Friends, Membership at the Y is a special thing. Our members often tell us that they consider the Y to be their second home and they love the sense of community and welcoming atmosphere. What’s even better is that they value belonging to an organization that transforms lives. If you are looking for a great gym with state-of-the-art equipment, friendly staff, fantastic programs and classes, as well as constant support to help you meet your healthy lifestyle goals, you won’t be disappointed. But the Y offers much more than that. It is a non-profit, cause-driven organization that strengthens the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Well-being for many of our neighbors is all too frequently limited by income or social isolation. In the communities surrounding Hollywood and Wilshire, the Y offers opportunities for children, teens and adults regardless of economic status. With your help, the Y can continue to expand programming and outreach where it is needed most. I invite you to explore opportunities to volunteer your time, make a financial contribution, or share your story of the Y’s impact. Join us in making a difference in your life and the lives of those in our community. Thank you for being part of a healthy future.

Laurie Goganzer Executive Director/Senior Vice President

IT STARTS TODAY When you join the Y, you belong to a community of men, women and children who strive every day to be healthy, confident and connected. The Y is a non-profit like no other. Become a member of something special.

Yes, you can afford it The YMCA is a non-profit organization that welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, age race, faith and income. You may qualify to receive assistance for you and your family to participate in membership and programs at a reduced rate.

Joining the Hollywood Wilshire YMCA At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. We work side-byside with our neighbors in Hollywood and the surrounding areas to help kids and families learn, grow and thrive. With a focus on building the potential of kids, improving individual health and well-being, and giving back and supporting our neighbors, your membership will bring about meaningful change not just within yourself, but within your community too.

I’m a member because... “Staff members are our extended family and we have met many new friends there over the years. It is the place where I give back to others and help whenever possible because at every stage of my own cancer, no matter what condition I was in, I was always needed and welcomed. So, the Y to me represents life and hope. It is not a place to exercise…it is our local heart of the family, a place where you learn how to live and how to pass that learning on.” – H. Ruiz

When you join the Y you belong to a place where: • Parents find a safe, positive environment for children to learn good values, social skills and behaviors. • Families come together to have fun and spend quality time with each other. • Children and teens play, learn who they are and what they can achieve, and are accepted. • Adults connect with friends, pursue interests and learn how to live healthier. • Communities thrive because neighbors support each other and give back. • We all build relationships that further our sense of belonging and purpose.

CAMP

Positive, fun activities that build athletic, social and interpersonal skills

CAMP Overnight, day or specialty camps at the Y share one thing: discovery. Camping, like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as camp, where kids discover their hidden talents while learning both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities. Camping teaches self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership—all amidst the fun of camp fires, canoeing, archery, hiking, and more. RESIDENT CAMP While at camp, kids get to enjoy the great outdoors, laugh, play, sing, and most importantly, enjoy an unplugged week of nature and fun. Working from a foundation that focuses on character development, cabin counselors are carefully selected and dedicated to supporting your camper’s experience. We also offer a leadership program designed to help students in grades 9-10 discover their potential, give back to their communities, and develop life-long leadership skills.

VOLUNTEERISM & GIVING

Voluntary contributions that fund, lead and support the Y’s critical work

ANNUAL SUPPORT The generosity of others is at the core of our existence. It is only through the support of hundreds of thousands of volunteers and public and private donors that we are able to give back to the communities we serve. As a philanthropic organization, the Y strives to ensure that membership and programs are available to as many people as possible who are in need, regardless of their inability to pay. Every year, we ask for your contribution to our Annual Support Campaign to help us fulfill that mission. When you give to the Y, you move us all forward. We use your gift to make meaningful, enduring impact, right in your neighborhood. Your generosity supports camperships, membership subsidies and new program initiatives. Please give generously for our common future.
