MEMBERS OF THE Y...

Since joining the Y about two years ago, Nancy and Darla are able to do many physically-demanding things they couldn’t before—both have more energy and move often in any way they can. “I take advantage of any opportunity to walk. I now walk to and from the Y, which is a mile each way, for my classes,” Nancy says. Nancy began with a simple aquatics class, as well as weight machines, the treadmill and bicycle. Her hard work led her to lose 65 pounds within a year. She’s now progressed to a highly aerobic Water Strength class and Cara’s Gravity classes, both of which she takes twice per week.

Nancy & Darla

Darla met Nancy while taking a weight management class at UCSD and both learned about the importance of healthy eating and exercise. She joined the YMCA after Nancy recommended Gravity classes, and now both regularly exercise at the Y. “The facilities here are spectacular,” Darla says.

Darla and Nancy are motivated by the thought of “being younger next year,” and consistently keep up the work at the Y because it makes them feel alive, young and healthy. They know the importance of staying active as they get older, and the Y gives them an environment in which they can do that. Through daily strength exercise and cardio classes, both are improving their endurance, strength, flexibility and balance. Becoming healthy has changed their lives.
