AQUATICS

As part of your YMCA membership, you’ll have access to a variety of recreational swims, Aquafit classes and one swim lesson per week. Recognizing that everyone is unique in the way they learn and apply new skills, we provide swim lesson instruction based on abilities and pace of progression. This is why our swim lessons are offered through a continuous evaluation program. Continuous evaluation means that children and youth will progress to the next level as soon as they are ready, as opposed to when the session is over. This also makes Y swim lessons more convenient for your busy family as we can offer a greater selection of course times, and often, siblings can be enrolled in lessons at the same time. We also offer private and semi-private lessons, First Aid and CPR courses and many Aquatics Leadership Courses for those interested in advancing their swimming skills.

Private and Semi-private Lessons In addition to the weekly swim lesson included with YMCA membership, we offer registered semi-private swim lessons. This is a great option if you think you or your child would benefit from additional swimming lessons.

Child Care

Children belong, grow, thrive and lead at YMCA Child Care. Through our programs, young people learn values and positive behaviors in a supportive environment. The combination of comfortable surroundings coupled with positive adult role models encourages children to confidently explore their unique talents and interests—helping them realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today and contributing, engaged adults in the future. Our YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum encourages children in junior child care to learn through play giving them a foundation of learning for language and literacy; mathematics, science and technology; and for the arts. As the largest not-for-profit provider of licensed child care in Oakville, we serve over 2,400 children between the ages of 18 months and 12 years at over 40 licensed locations. We offer Junior Child Care (1 ½-5 years), Before and After School programs and P.A. Day and Holiday programs (3.8-12 years).

At times, we all need support Lauren could no longer pay for child care after her husband died of cancer; Ben needed assistance after he was downsized from his job; and Louise and her son Ben escaped an abusive home to make a new life for themselves. Donors to our YMCA Strong Kids campaign welcomed them into our YMCA family and helped them find the courage to believe in themselves - to reach for their dreams, to have a second chance and gain the confidence they needed to change their lives. But there are many more children and families who also need a happy ending to their story.
