YOUTH SWIMMING The YMCA’s Youth Swim Program is for youth 6 years or older. The ultimate goal of Y lessons is to develop the whole person; physically, mentally, and spiritually. Youth courses are student centered and designed to respect the individuality of each participant while encouraging their ability. 2ND GRADE SWIM LESSONS
POLLIWOG
Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death for children under fourteen. The YMCA of Rock River Valley believes that all children should know how to swim and be safe in and around water. For this reason, the Y is offering a new 2nd Grade Swim Program for a discounted price. Second grade is an ideal time for young people to take on new challenges, learn more skills and enhance their feelings of mastery and competence. Research shows that if a child doesn’t learn to swim by third grade, chances are – he or she never will. The Y is committed to wiping out childhood drowning. Through our new 2nd Grade Swim Lessons all children in our community can learn to swim. In order for your child to participate in the program you must sign up at the desk and show proof that your child is in 2nd grade at any local school. Offer good for classes taken September 2015-May 2016.

TOGETHERHOOD
ROCKFORD SERVICE CORPS
Togetherhood is a YMCA initiative that invites Y members to activate their social responsibility by participating in the Y’s cause to strengthen community. This initiative provides Y members with fun, convenient and rewarding ways to give back and support their neighbors through member–generated service projects and other charitable endeavors. Togetherhood serves to bring the Y back to its roots as volunteer–powered association of people who wish to make a difference.
The Y is currently seeking community members to become part of our AmeriCorps service program. Individuals work with a diverse group of children and teens through various types of service work, such as mentorship, community service projects and many others. These AmeriCorps members will work on a part–time basis and will receive monthly living stipends, and an educational award to be used for future or current educational costs upon the completion of service. This is a great way for students and recent grads to gain new skills and professional experience, serve their community and build their resumes.
We are currently seeking Y members who wish to serve their community. We have a variety of ways to get involved in the Togetherhood initiative, and we strongly encourage our members to learn more.
For more information, contact the Sharetha Lewers at 779-774-4427.
Call 779-500-0800 or email togetherhood@rockriverymca.org to volunteer or receive more information regarding Togetherhood.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT PRAYER BOX
PRAYER GATHERING
We invite you to share your concerns with us so we can support you in prayer. We have placed a box in the lobby on top of the bookshelf at the Northeast Family YMCA and one just off the lobby on the way to the main gym at the I.D. Pennock Family YMCA. There you can anonymously drop off any prayer requests you might have. There is no limit to how many requests you may make. A team of pray-ers, including the Y chaplains will pray regularly over these requests. Strict confidentiality will be adhered to.
There is a time for community prayer every Wednesday morning from 7am-8:30am at the Log Lodge of the I.D. Pennock Family Y. All are welcome. It is a drop in event, so come for as long or as short as you like. From June through August we move the prayer time to Anderson Gardens to accommodate other use of the Lodge.
ASK ANYTHING
CHAPLAIN TEAM
An open, friendly conversation about faith and life, for people of all faiths or no faith. Contact Gary to arrange a time, date and location; information below.
We now have a growing team of volunteer chaplains to serve you, available to any Y member, staff, or guest. If you have something on your mind, need prayer, or just want someone to talk to, let us know. Our chaplains are mostly local pastors, or people engaged in ministry in the community. If you have a need, we will connect you to one of the team. We are also willing to volunteer to help in any area of need that we can.
DEVOTIONS We send out a weekly, brief devotion to all staff, and offer it to anyone else who wants it. Just contact Gary to be added to the email list.
PARTNERING To get information about what is available, to suggest an idea, or to share a concern or prayer request, contact: Gary Schwerin, Spiritual Development Minister, at 815.985.8796 or gschwerin@rockriverymca.org or visit www.rockriverymca.org.
You or your congregation may have an idea for us! Or an idea that we could help with! We desire to partner with you in making spiritual development a growing force for good in the Y, and in the community at large.
