Club News

Ynyshir Albions FC are proud to announce our new signings for the 2019 / 2020 season

Leon Anstee Striker Anstee returns to the club after a couple of seasons away and spells at Cambrian & Clydach Vale and AFC Wattstown. Co-Captain of our Alliance League Division 2 winning team in 2015/2016 he certainly has unfinished business in a red and black shirt. He scored 73 goals in 90 games during his 1st spell at the club and will be keen to add many more to his tally

Huw McGregor Like Leon, Huw also returns to the club from AFC Wattstown. A flying winger, he has a superb eye for goal, Saturday he scored his 48th goal for the club in his 103rd appearance, and will add real quality and competition to the squad in the wide areas.

Kailum Williams After a superb season playing for The Bun’s South Wales Youth League winning Youth team last season, Kailum makes the step up to senior football and has all the qualities to make an instant impact on the 1st team.

Drew Caple Drew is another member of last year’s League winning youth team but also played senior football for Graig FC. He has a cracking left foot and will bring much more competition for places in our back 4.

Welcome to the club lads!

The Match Report Welsh League Division 2 - Saturday 10th August 2019

Newport City FC 1 – 1 Ynyshir Albions FC The Bun’s Welsh League adventure starts with a point History making day for the club.. Our 1st game in the Welsh Football League, a dream of the clubs 27 year existence. In short it wasn't quite the 3 points we craved, it were honours even but we gave a very good account for ourselves and really should of beat a well established Welsh League side. The opening 15 was very nervy, understandable from ourselves and the high winds were proving a big thorn in both sides effort to get on top. But from the moment of Ynyshir's 1st good move which saw Liam Eason pull away and volley a Cory Morgan cross wide, it was the Rhondda side that got on top. Morgan started to become a big influence down the right hand side and he so nearly teed up the Gaffer Craig Wells who was denied by some superb last ditch defending. A goal was starting to look likely, the Ynyshir midfield driven by captain Scott Jones was on the front foot and just after the half hour the history making 1st ever Welsh League goal was scored when Morgan was yet again the catalyst getting in behind and crossing in for summer signing Huw McGregor who was on hand to score on his return to the club from close range for 1-0. Ynyshir finished the half strong with the home side struggling for any rhythm or to create clear chances. Into the 2nd half again Ynyshir looked in ascendancy with Wells firing wide after a good move but the tempo of the game then seemed to drop suiting the home side who started to grow in confidence whilst Ynyshir seemed to fade. On the hour Ynyshir were punished after switching off from a throw in that was well worked to the back post for a cross and close range finish almost identical to the Ynyshir 1st half goal 1-1.

The Match Report The goal felt a sucker punch being Newport's 1st clear chance, a punishment you can definitely expect at this level. To Ynyshir's credit they really bit down and worked they're socks off to turn the game back in their favour and get what they felt would of been a deserved winner. Whilst pressure built Newport had both their post and cross bar to thank denying Wells and McGregor and in the final 10 minutes McGregor failed to get good contact with the goal gapping from 3 yards.# For all that Ynyshir put in at the other end it was so nearly Newport City who pinched the win with Daniel Hurton making a superb close range save after a wicked Newport delivery. As said it finished honours even and although another day it's two points dropped, we cannot be too disappointed on such a day for this small club. To think where the club was as little as 5 years ago this is dreamland. So many positives! A great debut for young Kailum Williams on his step up from Youth Football and great to see Callum Westcott back in action after a year out from competitive football injured.

This small squad of local lads are a credit to our club and special mention to the likes of Wells, Sean Jones, Alex Rees and Cei Mason today who competed in their 6th different division for the club. Today's occasion was big but Wednesday night gets even bigger.. The clubs 1st ever Welsh League game at home on Ynyshir Oval, a massive derby vs AFC Porth. Please come out and support this unbelievable fixture in the making! Little Ynyshir v AFC Porth!!! See you all Wednesday night 6:30pm #COTB
