Club Transfer News Mccarthy becomes a Bun! The Buns would like to announce the signing of Sam Mccarthy from Alliance Premier rivals Trebanog FC. Sam trained for the first time last week with the senior squad and showed his ability and work ethic immediately, much to the delight of the Buns management who were extremely pleased to see him put pen to paper earlier last week. Sam was in the squad for last Saturday’s game away to Canton but as it was called off he stands to make his debut this Saturday at home to Baglan. Ynyshir Albions would like to say thank you to Trebanog’s management team for helping to process the transfer with no issues.

The Match Report W John Owen Cup Round 2 - Saturday 3rd November 2018
Ynyshir Albions FC 2 – 1 Merthyr Saints FC The Buns were back in cup action this weekend and knew they would be in for a tough afternoon of football against a strong Merthyr Saints side who last season at their home ground won the game convincingly. The Buns were forced into a few changes due to injuries and absentees but showed what strength in depth they have in their squad again this season, as the game got underway the Oval was looking in superb condition for this time of year. The game started a ferocious pace with both sides looking to get the ball down and play with width however it was the home side who created a number of chances inside the opening twenty five minutes but lacked that final element of composure. Two good early chances fell to Stuart Brock, whose shots were on target but straight at the goal keeper, Liam Eason somehow missed an open goal from two yards out with a diving header, after Craig Wells’ initial lob which came back off the post, going wide. Further chances in the half fell to Alex Rees who was unlucky not to see his headers find the back of the net following corners, however credit to Merthyr who on the counter attack caused the Buns alot of problems all afternoon with their pace and power and were to rue two good chances in the first half themselves. In the final minutes of the first half the Buns were somehow not awarded a penalty after Jamie burst into the box and what seemed like a blatant push in the back as he went to shoot was waved away by the referee as the sides headed in all square at HT. Merthyr came out the stronger of the two sides in the opening ten minutes and got in front from a set piece which is a key strength of theirs. A ball into the box saw the striker peel off the shoulder and finish first time from six yards out 0-1 to the Saints.
The Buns made their first change soon after with Cory Morgan replacing Brock and moments later were back level. A superb delivery into the box saw Wells time his jump to perfection and head home from the penalty spot 1-1 game on. The Saints however were looking to hit the Buns with direct route one football at times and a long ball was missed, as the striker raced through an unbelievable challenge from Aaron Hughes saved the day from six yards out, the Buns made a further change with Thomas Jones replacing Daniel Evans in the middle of the park. The game was still being played at a frantic pace as both sides pushed for a winner and it was the Buns who got in front, some neat build up play released Jamie Williams down the right flank and his pull back into the box found the feet of Joe Eason who finished first time to put the buns 2-1 up. The Saints continued to press for an equaliser, as the buns made another change. It was great to see another one off the Buns’ youth production line make another senior appearance with Charlie Hopkins replacing Wells. The Buns remained resolute at the back despite a late surge of pressure from the Saints and held on to secure their name in the hat for the next round. A huge credit goes to both sides for what was a well fought 90 minutes of cup football and with the teams yet to face each other in the domestic campaign I’m sure we’ll be in for drama there. As always a huge thank you to the supporters who again were out in numbers. #COTB
