The Match Report South Wales Alliance Premier League- Saturday 9th March 2019

Ynyshir Albions FC 5 – 1 Sully Sports FC Morgan runs riot to help the Buns to 3 points

The Buns welcomed Sully to the Oval in what was going to be a tough game. The home side had not played for a few weeks but were eager to get back underway with their domestic campaign in what was going to be a potentially massive few weeks for the club on and off the pitch. It was Sully who settled the better of the two sides in the opening 15 minutes as the home side at times lacked a little composure on the ball despite getting into some promising areas of the field, the final ball was missing. It was Sully who took the lead after a long throw in was half cleared it fell to the left back who finishing superbly into the top corner giving debutant keeper Jarrad Howells no chance, as it silenced the strong home support. Both teams continued to battle for every ball and with the sun beating down Sully were forced into two early changes as Ceirion Mason gave the right back a torrid time he looked pleased to be leaving the field. The buns got back level on the half hour mark, the colossus Sean Jones won the header which released Craig Wells down the left and a precision first time cross, saw Cory Morgan beat his man at the back post to find his first effort cleared off the line only to fall back to his feet to tap home 1-1.

The Match Report The Buns rallied for a short period after the goal as Alex Rees was causing havoc down the left with Mason, a chance fell to skipper Scott Jones who blazed over from 12 yards out after some neat play out wide from Cory. Thinking this would see the home side kick on and finish the half strongly that was not to be the case as the Buns were lucky not to concede a penalty and were pinned back in their own 18 yard box as the game ticked over into the fifth minute of stoppage time as both teams went in level at HT. No sooner had the second half got under way the buns were in front a great first time strike from Liam 25 yards out caught the keeper unaware to send the home support rocking, as the Buns went 2-1. This kicked the Buns into life as the midfield trio started to dictate the game and with the pace out wide and experience of Mason & Wells holding the ball up chances started to be created for the home side. A superb solo run from the Gaffa saw the keeper save well with his feet and only moments earlier Cory had spurned a one on one chance with his shot going wide. The Buns made their first change with Zack Philpott replacing Matthew Bishop. In fairness to Sully they continued to battle and after some persistent play they felt they should of been awarded a penalty following a pull back in the box but it was waved away. With the game on a knife edge, were the Buns going to rue their chances as once again a spin and first time shot from ‘the king’ Mason was again superbly saved.

The Match Report The pressure told minutes later as a first time ball for Morgan saw him put on the after burners and superbly slot the ball under the on rushing keeper 3-1 Buns. The Buns made another change with Sam Mccarthy replacing Mason. Mccarthy nearly made the perfect entrance as his thunder strike from the edge of the box hitting the post. The Buns back four continued to limit chances. As Sully started to gamble they were nearly gifted a life line as Alex’s header back nearly looped over Jarrad who saved the effort well in the end.

The fourth goal was the move of the day a high press from Mccarthy and Morgan won the ball back and some neat one touch football saw a squared ball into the middle allowing skipper Jones to tap home from close range. The Buns made another change with Scott Seldon replacing Wells, then came the moment his performance deserved in what was his first of what I’m sure will be many a hat trick for the senior side. The ball falling to Morgan 20 yards out with his first time shot giving the keeper no chance as it riffled into the top bin as he made it 5-1, with the final whistle coming soon after. Some stand out performances today but what was more pleasing to see was the attitude of the whole squad who secured another vital three points as their attentions quickly turning to next weeks game. A special mention to Alex Rees who was making his 200th appearance for the buns & Joe Eason who made his 100th appearance in the famous buns colours. #COTB
