The Match Report South Wales Alliance Premier League - Saturday 5th January 2019

Caerphilly Athletic AFC 0 – 5 Ynyshir Albions FC Buns Produce Five Star Display The buns headed to the league leaders for the first game after the Christmas break, in what could be a crucial few weeks for their league and cup campaign, with both sides eager to get points on the board. The Buns had already beaten the home side twice this season but knew the threat they posed after their strong start to the season. It was the Buns who started the stronger of the two sides looking to utilise the pace of Sam Mccarthy & Cory Morgan out wide in what was to prove a long after afternoon for the oppositions full backs. The opening goal came after some neat build up play which released Craig Wells who’s pull back saw Liam Eason slot home calmly from inside the box, 0-1 Buns. Matthew Bishop had a chance minutes later but was unable to convert. The home side rallied as they looked to hit the Buns on the break with their main threat coming down the right flank, however the Buns’ back four remained resolute. The Buns doubled their advantage mid way through the first half a ball inside from Eason saw Wells’ first time pass release Mccarthy whose blistering pace saw him beat the full back and finish superbly inside the keeper near post, 0-2 Buns. They could of all but sealed the three points as the home side had the cross bar to thank following a corner and the keeper saved well from Morgan’s one on one who like Mccarthy was causing havoc every-time he got the ball but the score remained 0-2 at HT. The Buns spoke of the need of composure and discipline at the break as the home side would surely come out fighting second half. A half time change saw Daniel Evans replacing the injured Scott Seldon however it was the Buns who created the opening chance with Mccarthy failing to convert his one on one chance. The Buns continued on the front foot and a through ball released Mccarthy who finished superbly into the bottom corner, 0-3 Buns. The home side began to get frustrated as the Buns battled for every ball, not giving them any momentum to get back in the game.

The Match Report ….The Buns freshened things up with Ceirion Mason replacing Wells, Jamie Williams for Morgan and Aaron Hughes for Alex Rees. The Buns got their fourth after some good pressing from Evans in the middle and a half clearance from the centre back fell to the king (Mason), who’s left footed half volley beat the keeper, 0-4 Buns. The final change saw a welcome return for Joe Eason after a few weeks on the sideline with a back injury. The Buns wanted more and another superb run from Sam Mccarthy, who beat three players only to be fouled just before he stuck in his hat trick. Up stepped Jamie Rewbury to take the resulting penalty, giving the keeper no chance, 0-5. A superb performance from all the players from the first minute they showed they wanted it more and got a very well deserved three points. There is a long way to go in the season and the players know they will need to maintain that level if they are to have any chance of silverware this season as there’s no easy game in this division. #COTB

FAW Trophy Round 5 - Saturday 12th January 2019

STM Sports AFC 3 – 0 Ynyshir Albions FC FAW Trophy journey ended by a strong STM Sports The Buns faced high flying Welsh Division Two side STM Sports in what was one of the picks of the fifth round fixtures when the draw was made a few weeks ago. The Buns travelled in confidence but knew they would have to be at their best today if they were to progress. It was the home side who started strongly immediately getting the ball down as they looked to stretch the Buns out of position but to their credit they held their shape and restricted the home side to very few chances in the opening 20 minutes. The Buns had Dan Hurton to thank, after some neat play by STM out wide, a squared ball into the six yard box saw their striker unmarked forcing Dan to make a superb, save tipping the ball onto the bar. The home side dominated possession as they have in many games this season but the Buns shape and work rate was sublime and some neat play between the Buns midfield, released Craig Wells, whose fierce shot went just over……

The Match Report ‌.The Buns started to get a good spell themselves and from a free kick Jamie Rewbury’s header seemed destined for the bottom corner were it not for a top save from the keeper. The home side scrambled the ball clear which meant the teams went in level 0-0 at HT The second half got underway with the home side keeping possession but credit to the Buns as each man kept battling for everything and a knock down following a clearance saw a Wells drive form 30 yards just going over with the keeper well beaten. STM pressure soon told however, after some neat play out-wide saw the winger’s through ball finished well first time into the bottom corner, 1-0 STM. Minutes later Hurton once again made a superb one on one save from close range to keep the Buns in the tie. This kicked started the Buns into life and they began to have some decent play inside the home sides half. A great switch of play from Scott Jones released Ceirion Mason, whose cross into the box, saw Liam Eason break through but his header was well saved and from close range Wells saw his follow up blocked on the line. The home side continued to press and a strong drive through the middle saw the midfielders first time strike finding its way into the bottom corner, 2-0 STM. The Buns rung the changes to freshen things up with Joe Eason replacing the work horse Kai Meades, Jamie Williams replacing Cory Morgan and Daniel Evans coming on in place of Liam Eason. Shortly after though, STM secured their name in the hat for the next round, some neat build up play saw the winger break through to finish well into the top corner to make it 3-0 with 15 minutes remaining. The Buns continued to battle for everything and showed great character as they fought to the final whistle but despite their efforts it was the home side who progress. Whilst there was the obvious initial disappointment at full time, the Buns should hold their heads up and be proud of their display against what will surely be a Division one team next season and can take huge positives from a great cup run and take that into the rest of the season. All the best to STM Sports for the remainder of the season and a huge thank you to the Buns faithful who made the journey to cheer on the lads. We are back in cup competition at the Oval next Saturday as we welcome South Wales Alliance Division 1 side Cardiff Airport FC for the 3rd round of the W John Owen cup #COTB
