The Match Report South Wales Alliance Premier League - Saturday 26th January 2019
Cardiff Draconians FC 1 – 1 Ynyshir Albions FC
Buns Grab A Late Equaliser In What Could Be A Vital Point Come May Today saw first & second go head to head in what was always going to be a feisty affair. It’s fair to say there hasn’t been much love lost between the two sides over the past few seasons but the Buns travelled in confidence following their recent results against the Drac’s. Both sides had dominating spells in the opening 45 minutes as the Drac’s looked to utilise their main target man up top and get the ball to their left winger at every opportunity. As the rain poured down both sides struggled at times to get the ball down and play but the buns had Dan Hurton to thank for a great one on one save after a cutting through ball saw the winger race through. The Buns however had their own game plan, with the blistering pace of Cory Morgan and Sam McCarthy out wide, a long clearance from Hurton saw McCarthy put on the after burners, only for the keeper to save well to keep the scores level. The Drac’s started to dominate the last 10 minutes and a mix up at the back saw the wingers cross some how put wide from six yards out. The Buns began to rally as the tackles started to fly in from both sides. The buns were awarded a free kick late on and Liam Eason’s delivery, saw Jamie Rewbury tower above the centre back, only to narrowly miss his header and then Craig Wells’ out stretched leg put the ball go just over. It was the home side who started the second half the stronger as they played the conditions well, as the Buns struggled to get any rhythm to their game and were having to defend very well to keep the Drac’s out. A blind back pass from Matthew Bishop saw the striker race through one on one with Hurton but he blazed over for what seemed a certain goal from close range. The Buns’ number 1 was called into action again shortly after making a fine save down to his left hand side. The Buns created a chance against the run of play after some neat build up play in midfield saw the ball fall to McCarthy at the book post but his shot was well saved by the keeper from six yards out. Only minutes later a late tackle saw the Drac’s awarded a free kick and a kick out from their midfielder into Joe Eason caused pandemonium amongst the players as tempers flared……
The Match Report …..Shortly afterwards, the Drac’s took advantage of their dominance. A corner into the box saw the midfielder unmarked to head home into the far corner, to spark scenes amongst the home supporters and players. The buns made a change with Kai Meades replacing Joe Eason, who was on a yellow card. As the pitch deteriorated the Buns continued to battle but lacked momentum as the game became a stop start affair but as we’ve become accustomed to this team will battle until the very end. A superb diagonal ball from the colossus Sean Jones, released Morgan who skinned the left back to deliver a superb ball into the box, which saw Wells dart to the near post to rise above the centre back and finish superbly with a header which sent the Buns faithful into raptures. The Buns were forced into a late change with Aaron Hughes replacing Jones. As the home side rallied the Buns to a man put their bodies on the line to secure what could be a huge point come the end of the season. All the best to Drac’s for the reminder of the season and a huge thank you to the Buns faithful who braved the wind and rain to cheer on the lads. We are back in league action at the Oval next Saturday vs Grange Albion FC #COTB
