Ynyshir Albions FC Club Info Welcome to Ynyshir Oval. The home of Ynyshir Albions Football Club. Our club was formed in 1992 by seven local lads with little more than a ball, a bucket and a sponge to start and took they're place in the 2nd tier of Rhondda Football. Promotion to the Rhondda Premier came in 93/94 and the club was very successful in winning the Rhondda Whitbread Cup and Lucania Cup twice before taking the Rhondda League Premier Division title in 96/97 earning promotion to the South Wales Senior League Division 2. Within two years the Division 2 title was won and with it came promotion to Division 1, where we were pipped to the title in our debut Division 1 season just missing out on a shot at Welsh League promotion. The club then went into transition both on and off the pitch over the next two seasons and had its most successful period in its short history between 2002-2004 led by manager Lee Allen, winning the CW Bruty Cup, FA Senior Cup and the South Wales Senior League Division 1 title, agonisingly missing out on Welsh League promotion again, losing 0-1 in a playoff vs Llantwit Fadre. Two near misses finishing runners up followed before losing our best players to Welsh League teams and we were relegated in 05/06. The club went into free fall and came very close to relegation back to local league football in 06/07, bouncing bounce back with promotion but this was followed by instant relegation and the club hit serious trouble. The club managed to stabilise itself and gained another promotion but again this was followed by another relegation and in 2014, we discussed the possibility of our club folding. But a newly formed committee and management team battled on and soon we took our place in the newly formed South Wales Alliance Leagues. With club legend Craig Wells taking over as Player Manager, the Alliance Division 2 title was won in his 1st season in charge and back to back promotions secured as runners up in 16/17 putting the club in the South Wales Alliance Premier and back within one league of Welsh League football. In the 1st season in the Premier the club surpassed all expectations finishing as runners up to run away winners Penydarren and in the 2018/19 season Wells and his team went one better, achieving the unthinkable, realising the dream of the clubs 27 year history finally winning promotion to the Welsh Football League. 2019/20 the club will operate in the Welsh Football League Division 2.

Today’s Visitors Monmouth Town FC Monmouth Town F.C. is a Welsh football club based in the historic town of Monmouth. The team currently play in the Welsh Football League Division One. The club is a member of Gwent County F.A. The Monmouthshire Beacon reports in 7 October 1876 that Monmouth Town FC will commence its season on 12 October. There is evidence to suggest that an ’association club’ was playing in all white at Dixton Road in the town in the year 1906. The Monmouth Beacon of 14 December recalls this and adds a comment about a period when football had been extinct in Monmouth. Indeed research shows that Monmouth were joint champions of the Monmouth and District League in 1925/26 with Clearwell FC. The next honour recorded by the Town was victory on the Monmouthshire Senior cup on the eve of war in 1940, defeating Lovell’s Athletic, (aka the Toffeemen) then about to lift the Southern League West title, 3-2 at Monmouth Sportsground which is still home today. Nearly 20 years later, in 1958, the Town lifted the Monmouthshire Amateur cup beating Cefn Fforest 3 – 0 at Pontllanfraith. The following season saw victories in both the Monmouthshire senior and Monmouth Amateur cups. Town's only appearance in the FA Cup was a 2nd preliminary round defeat away at Llanelli on 6 October 1945. Silverware was scarce with wins in the Gwent amateur cup in 1984 and 1996 being highlights of many years gracing the fields of Newport and the Gwent Leagues with an occasional foray into the English Forest of Dean and Herefordshire leagues. More recently the Town were relegated to the bottom tier of the Gwent County just three years ago. The returning Andrew Smith took up the reins and gained promotion in his first season in charge finishing runners up to Rogerstone. At the beginning of 2005/06 season the club adopted ‘the Kingfishers’ nickname and logo in homage to a peculiar legend outlined later. The season ended with fourteen match winning run as Town clinched the Gwent County Division Two title ahead of Newport Civil Service. 2006/07 almost saw a repeat but were Town were pipped by Civil for the title. However, The Kingfishers were offered the chance to take the step into the Welsh league for the first time in their history. With Robin Pick and Barry Burns at the helm The Kingfishers won the Division Three title in 2010/11 and followed it with The Division Two title in 2011/12, Dan MacDonald scoring a remarkable 44 goals. Their first ever season in Division One ended with a seventh-place finish after topping the table as late as March. The Kingfishers were also finalists in the Gwent Senior Cup for the first time since 1940 but lost out 1 - 0 to Caldicot Town.
16 times capped Steve Jenkins took over in June 2013 and after reaching the last sixteen of the Welsh Cup on 17 May 2014 The Club clinched the Welsh League Division One title capping a remarkable rise up the divisions with a 2 - 0 win at Cwmbran Celtic. Andrew Smith returned to the managerial hot seat at the start of the 14/15 season and a creditable sixth place finish was offset by winning the Gwent Senior cup for the first time since 1940 in a stunning 8 - 0 win against Panteg. During the four rounds Town scored 22 goals with just 2 against

The Match Report Welsh League Division 2 - Saturday 17th August 2019
Ynyshir Albions FC 1 – 1 Abertillery Bluebirds FC The Buns piles it on but only come away with a point Cracking game of football between the two promoted sides into this seasons Welsh League with Ynyshir coming from behind and left slightly disappointed not to take all 3 points after a fantastic 2nd half performance. 1st half was tight and very edgy to begin with, Abertillery were a handful up top but once Ynyshir got settled the better openings started coming their way with Liam Eason firing a superb strike just over the bar and the away goalkeeper made a smart stop from Alex Rees before superbly denying in form Huw McGregor with his feet after superb play from Leon Anstee on his return to the club. The game was very competitive all over the park but just as it looked Ynyshir we're getting the edge it was the away side that broke the deadlock with close to 40 minutes played. Ynyshir's defending was messy and Abertillery worked the ball well before a shot low from range surprisingly found its way into Daniel Hurton bottom corner. Ynyshir had a wobble as anxiety set in and needed half time as Abertillery looked threatening searching for a 2nd. Ynyshir regrouped and came out the second half full of purpose and close to the hour they were awarded a penalty when Cory Morgan raced through and was brought down going around the away goalkeeper.
The Match Report Captain Scott Jones stepped up and beat the away keeper who went the right way 1-1. Ynyshir upped the tempo and played at a pace Abertillery struggled to match but to their credit attack after attack was superbly defended by their back four who were excellent under the mass of Ynyshir pressure built. McGregor and Morgan were getting in behind but the ball just wouldn't fall Ynyshir's way in the box. Callum Westcott hit the cross bar late but it would finish honours even in a superbly played game between both sides.
Again big mention to the support with another 100+ attendance turned out đ&#x;‘?and thank you to the Abertillery players and supporters who stayed for a drink and were good value at the club after the game. Look forward to returning the favour later in the season đ&#x;‘? Things continue to get tougher as next up we host Monmouth Town of Welsh League Division 1 in the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup Saturday kick-off at the slightly earlier time of 2pm. #COTB
