The Match Report South Wales Alliance Premier League- Wednesday 9th April 2019

Ynyshir Albions FC 8 – 1 Grange Albion FC

McCarthy’s Magic Four help The Buns Stay in contention There was a quick turnaround this week for he Buns who were back on the Oval Wednesday night, for what could prove to be a defining few weeks in the club’s prestigious history, as they welcomed Grange Albion FC, who were themselves battling for every point to help them in their relegation battle. It was the home side who started the stronger of the two sides as they looked to utilise the speed of their front men but they had Sean Jones to thank for a late block as the Buns were caught flat footed from a long ball. Then moments later another long ball saw the Grange striker race through and as Goalkeeper Dan Hurton left his box, the striker was awarded a free kick and a sigh of relief as the referee only showed a yellow card.

This slowly kick started the home side and they were getting joy down both flanks as both Sam McCarthy & Cory Morgan were giving both full backs a torrid time with their pace and trickery. Howeve, despite a few half chances, neither side could break the deadlock. Some neat play between the Buns central midfield trio and KaI Meades’ precision through ball to McCarthy saw him finish calmly, 10 Buns. Minutes later they doubled their advantage following a corner, a neat chip into the box from Morgan saw Daniel Lever unmarked to hammer home from close range, 2-0 Buns. Thinking this would see the Buns push on, they began to take their foot off the gas as both teams struggled to get any momentum to their play, but a superb first time cross into the box from Morgan saw McCarthy unmarked to head home, 3-0 Buns.

The Match Report With the HT whistle approaching, the away side gave themselves a life line with the Buns twice being caught. Firstly, a free header from a corner which rebounded bar and was finished well from the centre half, who had far too much time to get his shot away, 3-1 as both teams went into the break. The Buns, similar to the weekend, started the second half with far more energy and were gifted a goal from an under hit back pass which skipper Scott raced onto to tap home past the keeper, 4-1 Buns. The buns made some changes with both Ceirion Mason & Scott Seldon taking to the field. The Buns began to dictate the play as Grange struggled to get into the game, the home side continued to get joy down both flanks and Mason found himself in a number of good positions but was unable to covert his early chances. This was to soon change as he got on the scoresheet after some neat build up play to make it 5-1, followed shortly by McCarthy securing the perfect hat trick as he finished from close range with his left foot to make it 6-1. The home side continued to ring the changes to freshen things up as Manager Craig Wells & Daniel Evans took to the field and shortly after McCarthy got his fourth of the night to make it 7-1. Credit to Grange they continued to battle but by this point were camped in their half and ‘The king’ sealed his second goal of the game to make it 8-1 as he pushes ever closer to the magical 150 for the club. A late change saw Jamie Rewbury replace Lever. There will no doubt be tougher battles and more ups and downs over the coming weeks but it was another vital 3 points which at this stage of the season is all that you can ask for, with the players attentions immediately turning to Saturday’s game against one of the league favourites Pencoed. #COTB
