Today’s Visitors Pontyclun FC Pontyclun Football Club has been part of the South Wales football scene for over a century having being founded way back in 1896. It is not certain where the club played its earliest home games - it may have been Talygarn - but there is documentary evidence that Ivor Park became our home ground in 1920 when Wyndham Damer Clark, formerly of Talygarn House, gave the club preferential use of the land as a football field. In the early years the club was a member of the Bridgend and District League but immediately after World War I joined the Cardiff and District League. In 1922 the club was admitted to the Football Association of Wales - one of the few amateur clubs to achieve such status. In 1968 the club was admitted to the Welsh Football League, then the premier league in Wales long before the introduction of the 'pyramid system'. At the same time the club continued to run senior teams in both the Rhondda and Pontypridd Leagues and junior teams in the Rhondda League. The club had a respectable first season in the Welsh League being undefeated in 16 of its 34 league fixtures. In subsequent seasons the club played most of its matches in the lowest division but achieved promotion three times. In season 1979-80 the club was runner-up to Lake United and again in 1992-93 to Treowen. However, the proudest moment in the club's long history came at the end of the 2002-03 season when on an emotional May afternoon the club won the Welsh League Third Division title, piping Skewen Athletic by just one goal! In the same season the Reserves were runners-up in the Welsh League Reserve East Division. The end of the 2011-12 season was one of great disappointment to all those associated with the club when we finished at the foot of Division Three and were subsequently relegated from the Welsh League after 44 consecutive seasons of membership. The club subsequently joined the South Wales Amateur League and after a season of consolidation the 2014-15 campaign saw the club finish in a very creditable fourth place in the league and reach the final of the W. John Owen Cup. Season 2016-17 was a time for celebration for everyone connected with Pontyclun FC as securing the championship of the South Wales Alliance league by 10 points resulted in the club regaining its place in the Welsh League. The club has every reason to look forward to the future with much optimism. The impressive changing room facility is now complete, substantial ground improvements have been made to comply with Tier 3 ground criteria, while junior football is thriving with a significant number of home grown youngsters breaking through at senior level. After spending the past two seasons once again establishing itself as a Welsh League club everyone will be going all out to attain Tier 3 status when Welsh Football is reorganised for the start of the 2019/20 season

The Match Report Welsh League Div 2 – Friday 31st January 2020
Ynyshir Albions FC 1 – 3 Trethomas Bluebirds The Buns winning run comes to an end
3rd place met 2nd in this big Welsh League fixture and it was a 2nd half 45 minutes to forget for Ynyshir who self destructed and were finished by a solid and street wise Welsh League side. Ynyshir were forced into changes from last weeks victory but were confident in form on the back of 6 successive wins and they played well in the 1st half, better in possession and edging their very game and capable opponents. Trethomas had the 1st clear chance of the game unluckily curled just high of Daniel Hurton’s top corner but soon after the growing influence on the game Cory Morgan gave Ynyshir the lead. Huw McGregor played a lovely through ball to the lively Leon Anstee who cut inside and crossed superbly for Morgan to finish at the back post 1-0. Anstee himself soon brilliantly turned his man in the box and had his goal bound shot brilliantly blocked by a Trethomas defender. Late in the 1st half the run and dynamic of the game took a big change. Liam Eason handed in Cory Morgan's cross and the referee failed to show Eason a 2nd yellow card to the understandably massive protests of the away side. Warnings, cautions were given out and those complaints were persistent at the referee who was starting to lose control. Ynyshir were deserved of the lead and had managed the game thus far but 3 minutes into 1st half stoppage time Trethomas pulled level. The ball worked left was superbly crossed and met with a back post header from an attacker with great desire to get on the end of it 1-1. The referee’s explanation for not dismissing Eason continued at depth half time and into his dressing room. 2nd half the instructions were clear from manager Craig Hopkins but the response and reaction was poor as Ynyshir grew frustrated by the referees influence on the game and Trethomas were now starting to get on top.
The Match Report Welsh League Div 2 – Friday 31st January 2020
Ynyshir Albions FC 1 – 3 Trethomas Bluebirds The Buns winning run comes to an end They came close to connecting to a corner early on and Hurton then made a smart save tipping over with Ynyshir playing themselves into trouble on so many occasions. The tide then turned massively when Jamie Rewbury was penalised for a penalty and more disappointingly was dismissed for dissent at the decision. The penalty was converted for 2-1 and it were an uphill task ahead for 10 man Ynyshir. Despite the disadvantages the reaction were good and it were again Ynyshir dominating possession, playing with urgency in search of an equaliser. They were ever so unlucky not to draw level, the ball was worked to Anstee who superbly turned and ran at the Bluebirds defence, passing to Eason who's effort beat the keeper and was superbly blocked on the line by a Trethomas defender.
Just minutes later it were 3-1, the ball at the back for Ynyshir was pressed well and then lifted over Hurton for 3-1. Morgan saw red for dissent and Ynyshir were reduced to 9 men amongst the away celebrations. Again Ynyshir gave a big push with two men less but the lead was so well managed and defended by Trethomas for the 3-1 win, who's experience at this level was plain to see. Tough home defeat to take, teams well matched but ultimately we beat ourselves rather than Trethomas being too good and doing a job on us. A very disappointing way to end an 100% record for new manager Craig Hopkins who brutally but honestly was let down by his players 2nd half today. Tough games continue starting with Chepstow away next Saturday with suspensions now another stumbling block for this small squad to deal with. If anyone fancies a space on the Chepstow coach trip for next week please contact the club or Sean Jones. Heads up men! Win together, lose together!! Supporters Man of the Match - Leon Anstee #COTB
