The Match Report Welsh League Div 2 – Friday 31st January 2020
Ynysygerwn 0 – 2 Ynyshir Albions FC The Buns make it five from five Friday night game under the lights as we travelled to the league leaders and it was a monumental team and defensive performance 2nd half that got us over the line for probably our biggest result of the season. In a reshuffle of shape Kai Meades dropped to the bench with Craig Guppy Hughes and Jamie Williams brought in to account for missing top goal scorer Huw McGregor. The the pitch was immaculate at the stunning Llandarcy Academy of Sport, the wet weather made the game very fast and difficult to weight the pass. Nothing of note happened early on until 9 minutes in when Ynyshir took the lead, the keeper wasn’t strong enough facing a Zack Philpott delivery and defender Mr. Ynyshir Albions Sean ‘Back Post’ Jones headed home from close range. His 1st Welsh League goal for his hometown in his 330th club appearance. Ynyshir were looking dangerous with Hughes linking everything so well between midfield and attack, he combined well with Cory Morgan who fired a superb low cross narrowly missed by Hughes and Leon Anstee sliding in when the 2nd looked there for the taking. Ynysygerwn improved and grew as the half went on but the closest they came was a wicked ball fired across the face off goal superbly defended by Alex Rees and an effort fired wide after an initial Daniel Hurton save. The league leaders finished on the front foot and came out firing 2nd half pinning Ynyshir back from the offset. Hurton made two excellent saves from close range and both Rees and Kailum Williams made important last ditch blocks when the equaliser looked certain. Pressure was quickly building and Ynysygerwn then had their best chance at the back post blazed over from a few yards out.
The Match Report Welsh League Div 2 – Friday 31st January 2020
Ynysygerwn 0 – 2 Ynyshir Albions FC The Buns make it five from five Pressure was real intense although an Ynyshir counter looked on at numerous times through Morgan and Williams wide failing to be executed in the fast conditions. Set piece after set piece were being thrown in at the Ynyshir defence and another great chance was headed over the bar. Meades and Joe Eason were introduced to join the energy and work of Scott Jones and Liam Eason who were incredible in midfield as Ynysygerwn’s relentless pursuit for an equaliser never stopped. Another big chance came, put wide and Ynyshir were nearly home. A final late surge of Ynysygerwn set pieces came superbly defended by Jones, Philpott, Rees and young Kailum Williams. Each and every one of them could of been man of the match and deep into injury time Ynyshir cleared to Cory Morgan who’s work rate in both attack and defence was absolute superb, he broke wide with the massive shouts to take the ball to the corner flag. He of course didn’t listen hitting a great pass to Anstee who took a touch to steady himself and fire straight through the home keeper into the roof of the net 2-0. Unbelievable scenes in celebration, an incredible test of character and result! Hard for the hosts, a cracking club and one of the very best we’ve played this season. Each and every one of our players gave everything and above for the shirt tho, an absolute pleasure and credit to our club!!! Thank you to all who travelled in support, absolute brilliant. Hard work doesn’t stop and the challenges get bigger as we host 2nd place Trethomas Bluebirds next Saturday 2pm. Enjoy your Saturday off lads!! đ&#x;‘? #COTB
