The Match Report “The Buns march on to Round 3” FAW Trophy Rd 2 - Saturday 15th September 2018
Ynysygerwyn AFC 1 – 2 Ynyshir Albions FC The buns knew they would have to be at their best against a strong Welsh league side if they were to get their name into the hat for the next round. With both sides known for wanting to get the ball down and play with a good playing surface it was going to be an entertaining 90 minutes of football ahead. The home side started as expected looking to get the ball down and play from the back at any opportunity but credit to the buns who maintained their discipline and shape in the opening 15 minutes.
It was the buns who started to create the clear chances, with joe Eason hitting the bar with a good left footed drive from outside the box and minutes later a smart turn from mason who’s shot was well saved from the keeper. The opening goal came from some neat play in the midfield which released Aaron who’s pull back feel to the feet of Brocky who topped off a great week for him by finishing calmly 1-0 buns. The home side rallied late in the half but didn’t really trouble Dan in goals much to the credit of the buns back line who’s positioning at times averted any counter attacks from the home side. The second half started similar to the first with the home side continuing to knock the ball around nicely but created few chances in the final third. The buns started to get back into the game with much of this being down to Mason who rolled back the years to put in a great forwards display holding the ball up and allowing the buns players to get into the game in the final third.
However it looked as if the buns were going to missed a host of good chances to double their lead with Mason, Joe, Brocky, Liam all having good chances to put the game out of sight. The buns begun to ring the changes with the new crowned fathers in Sean and Brocky being replaced Lever and Dunga and soon after Aaron being replaced for Kai. With ten minutes remaining the home side got back level a missed clearance fell to the feet of the midfielder who calmly finished and from there it seemed as if all of the hard work was going to be undone. As we’ve seen on many an occasion these past few seasons is that the buns will continue to battle to the very end and with minutes remaining a superb through ball from skipper Scott, saw Liam break through and with the keeper hesitating he clipped it over him to tap into the empty net 2-1 which sent the travel faithful into raptures. At times the football from both teams was a pleasure to watch but what was most pleasing to see was the character, discipline and work rate from the buns who stepped up against Welsh league opposition. A huge thank you to the buns faithful who made the trip I think it was safe to say the bus home was a little nosier than the journey down.
We are back in league action next Saturday on the Oval against Cardiff Draconians. #COTB
