Club History A Cult Hero in Gwent Rhondda born and Ynyshir raised Craig “Guppy" Hughes like many a valleys boy was and still is football mad, climbing the banking from the disused railway line to get into the Oval through a broken fence to play football after school, this was a regular activity that guppy and many a Ynyshir boy over the years.
What wasn't so much regular activity was being spotted playing boys club football and being offered a trial at Manchester United before being signed by then Premier league Coventry City. Despite his talent and abilities shining through enough to catch the attention of then manager Gordon Strachan gups time at Highfield Road was short lived. Fast forward a few years and lesson learnt both on and of the pitch after stints in the Welsh prem with Barry and Aberystwyth, a chance to flourish in the English pyramid was once again offered to Craig. Newport County then in the southern league aiming to get back into the 92 of the football league seen how valuable an asset guppy could be in the aim to climb the leagues. Carol Fry
And it was to be a match made in heaven between 2005 - 2009 Guppy endeared himself to the exiles faithful with his goals and all round commitment on the field helping them reach the first round of the FA Cup in 2006 and winning the FAW Premier Cup in 2008. Before leaving the club much to the disappointment of manager Dean Holdsworth and the fans who'd adopted him as one of their own at Spytty Park.
Club History A Cult Hero in Gwent Two stints at Richmond Park with Carmarthen either side of spells with Neath and Port Talbot saw Craig continuing his fine form from the English Southern league in the top flight of Wales. Before coming back home as player coach to help the buns on their rapid rise up the leagues. Followed by his first steps into management with Cambrian and Clydach. Now Craig is back at his childhood home of the Ynyshir, combining coaching duties with playing for the Welsh veterans side. His wealth of experience proving an invaluable asset to the club both on and of the field even if he can't help being the biggest joker and wind up merchant at the club. A hero at County he may be but a bun is what he really is Craig "guppy" Hughes he's one of our own.

Club History An Historic Fixture Today's opponents Newport City hold a place in the buns history books. After near misses and years of ups and downs it was the 2018/19 season that saw the buns reach the promised land of the Welsh league. As the dust settled on the promotion celebrations the preparations began for what would be a big season ahead for the club, albeit one halted by co-vid. The fixture list announcements are always something to look forward too, but after a promotion the anticipation for their release is turned up a notch. On their release we were met with the news that our first home game would be a Derby with Porth exciting news. First up though? A trip to the Newport stadium previously known as Spytty Park and formerly home to Newport County to face Newport City an established team at this level. August 10th 2019 the day of the buns first Welsh league fixture players committee and a small contingent of fans travel the a470 and M4 Eastbound. A tight match saw the buns take the lead after half hour through Huw McGregor a lead Carol Fry the buns carried into the second half. As the match went on both sides causing each other problems the hosts equalised through Dean Clifford before going a man down 5 minutes later. Despite the man advantage the buns couldn't force a opening day victory and left Gwent with a first ever Welsh league point. A classic match it may not be but a historic day for the buns none the less.
