Todays Match Day Sponsor This week we would like to say a massive thank you to Brendan Lyons who has kindly sponsored todays crucial league fixture against Dinas Powys. Brendan has been a loyal sponsor of the buns for many years now and we are really pleased he’s continued to support the club again this season. From all the players, management and committee we really do appreciate the support of local businesses, without it quite simply this club would not have survived all these years.

A Tribute To Remember One Of Our Own Not the usual article that you would associate with our match day programme however as a club we were eager to pay our respects and take this opportunity to offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ian Davies. It was a shock across the local community of the news earlier this week that Ian had passed away after a short illness, we would especially like to offer our thoughts and wishes to his partner Natalie James, son Owen Davies and step-daughter Sophie James. Ian was no stranger to the Oval from his playing days to more recently becoming an avid supporter on match days cheering the boys on and enjoying a pint or two after the match back at the clubs HQ ‘The Baden’. As a special tribute to Ian we thought what better way than to speak to some of his friends and fellow teammates from back in his playing days. Carol Fry As a mark of respect before todays kick off we will be observing a minutes silence.
A Tribute To Remember One Of Our Own As a youngster Ian came through the Ynyshir & Wattstown boys club ranks, playing alongside the likes of Mark Moon, Mike Foulkes, Ian Connolly, Gareth Leyshon, Neil and Dean Andrews , Byron White , Neil Harding and the late and greatly missed Nigel Haig, to name a few. Although a couple of years younger than the others, Ian always played at an higher age group due to his ability. Ian was not the biggest of goalkeepers but what he didn't have in size and stature he more than made up for, with his shot stopping and sheer bravery. As he left junior football his talent was clear to see and was he targeted by arch rivals and ambitious AFC Porth where he made his name as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. One of his finest games was actually against Ynyshir & Wattstown boys club who in the 1987/88 season had put together a team of ex Welsh league players and local youngsters. Ynyshir who had beaten off everything else and only needed a point against AFC Porth in the final game of the season to win the league . The game was played in a monsoon with Ian having the game of his life and virtually single handily denying Ynyshir the Amateur league title with Porth winning 2-1. Many of this Ynyshir side were the founder members of today's Ynyshir Albions four years later. It was Ian's exploits that day which springCarol boarded AFC Porth to the league title two years later and a couple of years Fry later securing the coveted Welsh league status. H He will be greatly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known and played with him. (Memories of Mark Moon)
A Tribute To Remember One Of Our Own Ian moved from Penyrenglyn school to Ynyshir school around 1978 and I was asked by the teachers to look after him! So myself, Ian and Dicky Morgan then played for Ynyshir BC at under 12, 14, 16 level and Ian went in goal because of his asthma. His natural talent soon began to shine through and its safe to say he went on to become a brilliant goalkeeper so much so that he was called up to the senior team when he was about 16 and played with the likes of Michael Foulkes, Mark Moon and Byron White. They all used to look after him even if he was manhandled on the field especially by fully grown men twice his age, he was a superb goalkeeper and very popular with everyone who played with him. He was a fantastic guy and will be deeply missed by all, I think for that met and knew him a true gentlemen and a devoted family man. (Memories of Adam Watkins)

Trip down Memory Lane On this Weekend 6 Years Ago.. South Wales Alliance Two - Cardiff Hibbs 1-2 Ynyshir Albions Tough side and place to visit, Craig Wells Alliance Two winning side were given one of their biggest gut checks coming from behind to win a fierce encounter. Huw McGregor with the equaliser and Zack Philpott with a brilliant freekick winner. 5 Years Ago.. South Wales Alliance One - Cogan Coronation 3-4 Ynyshir Albions Nerves shot as we were pushed all the way on our promotion chase. Coasting at 2-0 and 3-1 through Leon Anstee 2 and Jamie Rewbury but the club much more accustomed to doing things the hard way saw Cogan fight back to 3-3 late on. A last gasp Scotty Jones penalty would win the game in injury time. 4 Years Ago.. Carol Fry South Wales Alliance Premier - Sully Sports 3-4 Ynyshir Albions Another goal feasted classic away at Old rivals Sully Sports. Ynyshir had led twice through Jamie Rewbury and Craig Wells but later fell behind only for Rewbury to equalise with his 2nd goal for 3-3 setting up the grandstand finish that was completed with Joe Eason netting a late Ynyshir winner.

View From The Stands
In the latest instalment of ‘View from Our Stands’, we caught up with our most trusted man with a lens our match day cameraman, committee member and ex-player Mr Lee Scott, to get his perspective of the season so far and what his expectations are as we enter the final few weeks of the season…. What do you think this group of players can achieve this season? First season in Welsh league I think a few people were banking us to be down the bottom. But the lads have dug in and helped each other out all season worked there socks off and at the end of the season looking to push as high as we can. Who’s been your stand out player this season? For me there are two players Liam Eason & Jacob Matthews but I think Liam Eason just nips in front with his goal scoring performance and is engine, man on fire although some anger management pre-season might be beneficial Carol Fry
A View From The Stands
What have you most enjoyed about the buns this season? Love going to watch the buns but most of all taking the photos and seeing the game in a different way, most times I’m there with my boy (MJ) who also loves the buns now. Did you expect the buns to be in this position after the re-structure of the leagues? For me honestly no, I thought we would be mid table or just below, with it being first time in the Welsh league, but credit where due the boys have been outstanding throughout. Carol Fry

Club News Sponsorships Renewed Whilst the players and management continue to focus on match day preparation, the buns committee are working tirelessly behind the scenes to continue to push the club forward off the field. We are delighted to announce that the following businesses have decided to renew their sponsorship deals with the club.

Our design team are working hard to make sure that both new & existing boards are ready to be advertised at the Oval, it’s a message that we’ve shared numerous times but as a club we are truly grateful for this support. Without it not just now but in years gone by we simply would not be able to operate as a club and we’d like to think those dark days are over and the buns are now making what was a dream to so many become a reality.
We are yet again as a club overwhelmed by the generosity shown by our supporters, members of the local community, local businesses and Sport Wales who have kindly donated to our Crowdfunding campaign. We will be in touch shortly with people who selected one of the reward packages and please stay tuned to our social media pages as we’ll share progress of the work being undertaken to improve the facilities we are able to offer on match days.
