The Arts Council of York County is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to create arts programming that encourages education, economic development and arts advocacy through unique art experiences. By engaging the community to create a thriving, diverse and vibrant arts community, Downtown Rock Hill became the first state-designated Cultural District in South Carolina. The Arts Council partners with local organizations to brand York County as a regional arts destination; markets arts events from each municipality; hosts visual arts exhibits and performing arts programs; produces festivals including the Underexposed Film Festival yc and the Blues & Jazz Festival in Rock Hill, Baxter Village and Clover; manages a Small Grant Program; provides artist studios, galleries, performing arts space; and oversees arts education programs. We invite you to enjoy the wide variety programs listed here. Staffed by four full-time and two part-time employees and governed by a 26-person board of directors, the ACYC manages two facilities along East Main Street: Center for the Arts, 121 East Main Street, and Gettys Art Center, 201 East Main Street. The annual budget of $400,000-$450,000 is supported through a combination of grants, individual and corporate membership donations, earned income, and ticket sales. The arts enrich our lives, build bridges between cultures, promote a strong sense of community and provide opportunities for economic and cultural growth. The Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 study conducted in 2016 by the ACYC and the Americans for the Arts indicates the nonprofit arts and culture sector in York County is growing. The study determined that the Arts are a $27 million industry - one that supports 846 full-time equivalent jobs and generates $2 million in local and state government revenue. The Arts are good for business. Many thanks to our community for their support and patronage. We recognize our patrons for their support, and our partners and sponsors for their help in sustaining the arts. We extend our gratitude to the artists, musicians, actors, workshop leaders, teachers, and administrators who keep the arts alive in York County. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of our board members who keep our Council running smoothly, and who help brand York County as a regional arts destination.
