And this is what happened when they went to
spend some money...
a carrot cake
It all began with that Bunny’s mum had decided to bake. She’d got some ingredients but wanted some more, so she asked young Bunny to go to the store.
Meanwhile at Ed’s house, Mr Squirrel needed a favour. He was cooking his special nut roast but it lacked a bit of flavour.
Could you pop to the shop, son, and get me this stuff.
He gave Ed
five pounds,
it should be more than enough.
They’d not been to town on their own before, it was really quite a thrill. They could hardly contain their excitement, as they pedalled up the hill.
YIPPEE!
The two friends were quite exhausted, when they finally arrived at the store. Bunny decided he needed a snack, before Ed had even got through the door!
Bunny bought a chocolate bar. This will help me to recover. He paid Mrs Mole and got four pounds change. Now it’s time to buy the things for my mother.
Bunny offered some chocolate to Ed, but he pointed to a bulge in his cheek.
Thanks, I’m ok, I’ve got an acorn stashed away, which will last me the best part of a week!
Bunny had a longer list than his friend.
Carrots, EGGS, SULTANAS and FLOUR...
We better get started, there’s no time to lose, we have to be home in an hour!
Ed spotted some bags of nuts, way up on the highest shelf, but soon realised there was no way, that he could reach them by himself.
His pal
leapt to the rescue.
I’ll soon get them for you, Ed! But poor old Bunny hopped too high...
...and knocked them all down instead!
OOF! Ed thanked Bunny for his amazing jump. It was very brave indeed. I’m sorry that it ended in a bit of a bump! Now let’s buy the items YOU need.
The clock was ticking, there was no stopping Bunny...
But when he got to the checkout, he didn’t have enough money!

£1.00
Mrs Mole added it all up. It came to four pounds twenty-two. But I’ve only got £4,
said Bunny.
What am I going to do?
£1.30
If only I’d not bought that chocolate bar, I could afford the shopping for Mum. But I can’t give the choc back to Mrs Mole, it’s already in my tum!
Ed told his friend not to worry. I can give you the 22p. My dad said that I could keep my change, so it’s a present to you from me!
After their shopping adventure that day, they dined on delicious nut roast...
...they’d learnt all about spending money,

but was what they valued the most.
