NOTE FROM THE EDITOR By Lisa Wilson

So many people ask me all the time, how the heck did I get started with Young Celebrity News and I simply tell them the same thing. I took a chance, a risk, and said “why not.” This magazine has helped me in so many ways and I have learned so much! When I first started I had to learn on the go because some things I just didn’t understand what people were saying to me. I say all this because at the end of everything we’re all going to leave behind a story and what we fill up in those pages will be the only thing that matters at the end. Let your story be a great one! Let it be so great that someone actually publishes it for others to read! The sky is the limit for each and every one of you. I truly believe that with all of my heart.

What’s Your Story?

Lisa Wilson Editor-In-Chief youngcelebritynews@gmail.com @youngcelebnews3

e all have a story to tell. We are all authors of our autobiographies. When the final page is written in your book and the end of the chapter arrives what will be your story? Will you have achieved success in your life? Did you do everything you said you were going to do? Did your dreams come true? I really want everyone to think about that. Not to make anyone depress but excited! It’s true we can’t take anything with us when we leave this earth but what we did, how we inspired others, how we loved one another will be left. Your story is so unique. Your story can’t be stolen from someone else because it’s yours. No one will have the exact story as you. And as long as you are breathing and living today, your story is being written. The older I get, I have realized so many things. For starters I’m better looking, (joking) but seriously, I have learned so much. I learned that I’m not as smart as people think I am and that I’m always learning something new. I love to learn! I love to grow! 4. | Young Celebrity News | www.youngcelebritynews.com | V.2 Issue 3

“Today You Can Do Anything!”

How did you get the name Lil L? I got my name “lil L “ from my best friend’s mother. She always called me “lil L “ since I was 6 years old, so I went with it. Tell us about what it was like to make your music video, “Famous?” Making my music video for “Famous” was so much fun! Most of my friends were in the video so it’s a memory now we can keep forever. I enjoy the beach so it was perfect being able to shoot on location in Huntington Beach and at the Pier, if only I could have taken a swim. I liked having a make-up artist to do my hair and make- up, and just having so much fun behind the scenes. When we shot “the party scene”, I loved watching my friends blowing up the balloons and also having a fun time. Overall it was an amazing experience.

“Lil L” Charges Through

What motivates you to get better in your music and acting?

My motivation comes from within. This is my passion and dream to peril L aka Lauren Suthers, may be little to some but form. I love how I feel when I hit the one thing is for sure, her talent comes in big packstage, during a performance seeing the ages. This triple threat star is getting ready to show crowd singing with me or cheering everyone that she has what it takes and more to makes me push even harder. I am currently working on my EP and recording some new songs. I am also going to be shooting my next music video for my single, “Hollywood Blvd” in a couple of weeks. I am very excited about that, because I will get to shoot with Keyz, who is featured on the song. He has been a huge supporter of my music career since day one. On March 16th, I will be performing at Avalon Hollywood for the Young Hollywood Club Launch. Then, on March 23rd I am honored to be performing at Dodger Stadium for the Susan G. Komen 5K in memory of my grandmother. This performance means so much to me. Does it get hard trying to juggle school and a career in the entertainment industry at times?

FUN FACTS ABOUT LIL L 1. Favorite TV Show Right Now: Shake it Up 2. Favorite Ice Cream: Mint Chocolate Chip 3. All time favorite car: Ford Mustang Convertible

Definitely. At times it can be a juggling act. My education though does come first, so I work hard in school so I can enjoy the fun stuff like acting and singing. What advice would you give to other up and coming talent today? I would tell them to always believe in yourself and that “Today You Can Do Anything!”

ANSWERING THE CALL

you start to see and hear their sound change and talk about things they never did before. So tell us, how do you stay true?

V.Rose knew at an early age that she

This is one of the biggest issues coming out right now in music. So many artists are listening to what people are saying. They try to cater what people think of them. You can’t do that. I try to stay me. A lot of people will listen but not like my music ‘cuz’ it’s girly. Because I’ve been doing music since I was so young, I know now at 24, when I write a lyric and love it, I really love it. And I get content from the Holy Spirit. My mission is to take scripture and tell young people what it really means. Growing up it was hard to really understand what they meant at times. Now that I understand, I try to take the message to get young people to understand. You just have to block out everyone and stay true. I hope that answered your question. (Laughs)

wanted to pursue music. Whether it was in her church choir or living room concert, V.Rose loved to sing. As she began to really sharpen her singing and songwriting skills, V.Rose felt that she had a calling to not only produce great music, but also great music with a Christ centered message. The talented artist has now signed with Christian Hip Hop artist Flame’s label Clear Sight Music. We got a chance to talk to the talented artist. Check out her interview below! We know you’ve been singing for a long time! We read that it said you’ve always had this calling to do Christ centered music! Can you tell us about that, and how that came about in your life? I started as a kid. I grew up in church. My parents really pointed me in the right direction. In high school, I struggled with wanting to be like other teenagers, but I had such a passion for music and God, and really that was the only thing that kept me sane, my love for God and music. It can be bitter sweet. I wish I could of done those things, but would I be where I am now? I have no regrets. At 16, when I became saved, and really understood my salvation, my heart changed. It wasn’t about being famous and I had a different outlet on my gift that my gift was for everybody else not for me. Then everything started to change for me. I began to write music differently. I had this spirit of worship and I wanted people to feel the same passion! What motivates you to stay true to who you are? Because I think a lot of people start out wanting to be a certain type of artist then later in the years,

Tell us about your new music video Battery? And making it? And working with Kel Mitchell? It was so much fun. It was the hardest thing I’ve done. It was so much work! It was a really cool experience. I met with different choreographers and dancers. Christian music doesn’t really have a pop artist and I hope to pave the way for other Christian pop artists. Kel is such an amazing writer and director. He is so different in real life. As a director he’s really focused and serious. I never expected him to be so focused because he’s so hilarious as an actor. He’s really adamant about the message coming across. A lot of people don’t know he’s serious about being a Christian. Who are some of your musical influences today? I love to listen to real music. Study anything that sounds current and fun. My producer gave me all these artists to study. He really tried to make me have my own sound. It was one of the coolest things. I studied Lauryn Hill, Ella Fitzgerald, John Legend and so many others. What did getting signed to Clear Sight Music mean for you? And how has Flame helped you during your journey as an artist? Clear Sight is an amazing label. I think we all became so close because we were building when I signed with them in 2011. I went from making my album, and then we mixed the album and went on our tour! I had never been away from home that long and never been away from my hometown. I was really homesick. It was hard to adjust. I didn’t realize it was going to be so much work. Sometimes I would sleep 3 hours a day and would have to be up for traveling and ministering. But now I can’t image not doing it, it’s the greatest thing. I learned a lot from Flame. I was in awe of watching Flame perform. I knew I needed to step it up! Even just watching him minster and preach the gospel. Now I’ve matured a lot. We’re all still growing. We’re going to be on our first tour the Blackout Circuit. And I’m really excited they are all really amazing people.

Favorite song you’ve written and why? I think my favorite song is Dear Adam. It’s so special because of the place I was in my life at that time and transitioning. The song was difficult for me. I remember writing it and I never used to sing out. It was so hard for me. My producer pushed me to reach that and to take my voice to the next level. It was a huge transition. The message behind it is that people think that they can’t come to God because they’re not perfect. Yet not realizing we can’t be perfect that’s why God sent his son to die for us, we need his grace. We feel like we have to hide from God. The song is about a letter from God to a man telling him you can come back home. It’s one of those songs I can still put it on and it will minister to me.

V.ROSE FAVORITES Favorite Snack: Hot Cheetos and Whip Cream Favorite Show: Downtown Abbey Favorite Scripture: 3 John Verse 2 What advice could you offer to other up and coming artists today? Best advice is first making sure this is what God wants you to do. It’s not easy but if it’s your purpose God will meet you every step of the way. Have faith and do it. Don’t wait. Start doing the music, start practicing every single day. You should be doing something to further your music career daily. Just do it! Labels are looking for talented artists AND driven artists.

SWURQ IT OUT!

Billy Fridley and daughter of Ali Woodson from the Temptations, Aliah Wood-

son, have collaborated together and have created one of the latest craze dances, “The SWURQ.” The SWURQ is not a dance for the typical “two stepper.” If you’re going to get down with this dance you better be ready to boogie and have your dancing shoes on! Besides creating the SWURQ both talented teens are working on projects of their own including EP’s set to release this year. Billy the K.I.D. who raps, dances and acts got into the entertainment industry at a young age. At the age of 11, Billy won his first film award in Kansas. As for the beautiful Aliah, the talented teen has music in her DNA. Her father, who was a singer from the late group the Temptations, has left a music legacy with Aliah. She is set to release her new upcoming EP in the summer and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for her. If you want to see these two in action come to Spring Beat 2013 in Avalon, Hollywood hosted by Young Hollywood Club. We have been preparing for this studio session for over a year, though, to make sure that we have everything we need for a great album. How is your album going to differ from your previous projects?

Perseverance

There isn’t one word to describe the band, Andy

This album is going to be very different from our past two releases...in a good way. We are definitely proud of our previous projects, but they were “learning-by-doing” labors of love. For this album, we feel like we finally know what we are doing, and we aren’t cutting any corners. We are putting much more time and energy into this one, and it is all paying off. We started the process for this album in Feb 2012, and spent the year writing, rewriting, auditioning band members, arranging, finding the perfect producer and studio, etc. We also feel like we have finally found our sound - however cheesy that sounds - so this album is going to sound different from anything you’ve heard before from us.

Suzuki and The Method. This versatile group has created quite the attention online from their music. Right now the band is working hard on their upcoming album that they’ve spent day in and night perfecting. And although the band has had quite the success now, they didn’t always start out that way. Yet perseverance has taught this group that if you stick with something long enough, you’re bound to have success! Check out what Andy had to say Do you have a favorite song on the about his album and band in the interview below! new album?

Describe your band in one word? No. (Not possible...words in parentheses don’t count as words, right?) You’ve been working hard on your new album in the studio A LOT! Can you tell us a little bit about the process of what goes into recording? And the time frame you can sometimes spend in the studio?

We are currently in the studio recording the album, so it’s a little too soon to say which songs have come out the best. We all have personal favorites. This is the first album where we have co-written together as a band, so everyone likes...every song.

We are currently at Carriage House Studios in Stamford, CT, recording our entire record over 8 days. It is a live-in studio - the studio is downstairs and we live upstairs. It is basically a 24/7 process, and (Continued on next page) probably the most intense thing we have ever done as a band. 12. | Young Celebrity News | www.youngcelebritynews.com | V.2 Issue 3

How did this band come together? We all met at Brown University, in Providence, RI. When I (Andy) was a freshman, I met Kozza, who was a senior at the time, in 2006. We started playing together, and although we kinda sucked at the time - I had just begun playing piano seriously a few months before - we stuck with it, even after Kozza left Brown. I then met Jason G when he was a freshman, and I was a senior, at a meeting for jazz musicians. The first time Jason G and Kozza met was at Jason’s first show with the band. We’ve been at it since.

Music definitely comes first, almost always. We generally come up with some chords that inspire us, and take turns singing melodies into a voice recorder, until something magical happens. Then the lyric process starts, which often takes hours and hours. We really agonize over making lyrics special and personal. Lastly, what advice can you give to other up and coming bands?

WHO

Is the Jokester of the group? Kozza. No doubt. Who eats the most? Jason G and Andy treat everyday like an eating contest. It is unhealthy. Brings everyone back to focus? Not Kozza.

How do you guys create a song? Does the music come first? Lyrics?

Kozza told me years and years ago, when we first started playing music together and were struggling to make any progress, that “if it was easy, everyone would do it.” Our experience has taught us that even the simple things that are supposed to come easy, never do. There is always some obstacle that comes up and complicates things. We have been sticking with this thing since 2006, and we are finally approaching some really great things. My advice would be, if you can stick with it long enough and are willing to put up with infinity obstacles, you will achieve some beautiful things.

CREATING YOUR OWN STYLE

I

n today’s society, mimicking someone else is much easier than trying to be the real you. Yet for Shameik Moore, the best advice he got while striving after a career in entertainment was from Brandon T. Jackson. The Tropic Thunder star, told Shameik, to not worry about what everyone else was doing but to always concentrate on being, “you.” With that in mind, Shameik has done just that. Now the star has been in the studio working hard on his album to give his fans something special along with staring in Nick Cannon’s Comedy Sketch Incredible Crew. Check out what Shameik had to tell us about his career and working with Nick Cannon. The girls are in Love with you! Tell us what went through your mind when all those girls pulled you into the crowd at the school?

How is it working with Nick Cannon?

Nick is an inspiration! Just seeing everything he does he’s really focused. It’s really inspiring being around someone like that and who really provides for family. He’s been in the game so long. I really When she first grabbed my hand I said, oh my goodness I hope I turn on my back want that, to be able to be on that show produce if I fall. I would rather fall on my back not that show, he’s doing a lot. It’s inspiring just to be around him! my face! Then I started smiling. When my team tried to pull me I felt like Justin Best Advice you’ve gotten so far? Bieber. I really felt like a rock star. I was happy but very concern! Best advice I got was from Brandon T. Jackson. Worry about yourself, have your own swag. People are gonna Right now my album. I’m in the studio like you for you.” My dad tells me that too! a lot! I’ve been working really hard and coming up with creative ideas. I have a lot of new projects coming out this year to (Continued On Next Page) take my career to next level. 14. | Young Celebrity News | www.youngcelebritynews.com | V.2 Issue 3

What’s a typical day for Shameik? Man, right now it varies. Doing a lot of meetings with publicist, then hit the studio at nights. During the day, music videos and school work. My mom is really on me about school. Always making sure my English is right!

MEAK’S WORLD First thing you do when you wake up? Thank God for another day then do everything else I have to do for that day. Favorite Snack: Reese’s cups, Kit Kats and Sprite. As soon as I drink it I can’t stop. But I can’t eat too much chocolate it breaks me out! And I gotta stay smooth! Favorite pair of shoes? These Adidas that I have. They’re blue, green and BRIGHT! They are pretty dope I never wear them though because I don’t know what to wear with them! What advice do you have for other young up and coming artists today! My advice is don’t GIVE up! If you want it you REALLY have to want it. You have to go and get it. That’s the realest thing that I’ve ever heard. But seriously if you want to be an actor and come out to LA don’t give up. It’s a war! You got to fight for what you want. You can do it! FOLLOW SHAMEIK: https://www.facebook.com/shameikmoore http://www.shameikmoore.com/ www.twitter.com/Meaksworld

DESTINED TO SUCCEED

Shauna Case has always loved acting.

She performed in many plays in her hometown, Pennsylvania. When her father packed up the family to move to California after getting a new job, Shauna’s dreams of being an actress began to blossom even more. From there, she was able to land a lead role in Nick Cannon’s new show, “Incredible Crew.” We were able to talk to the teen about what it’s like being on set for the show of Incredible Crew and the making of her new EP! Check it out below. We know you moved a couple years ago! Were your parents up for the idea right away? Well my dad got a job out here in California. I had been doing theater for about 2-3 years in Pennsylvania. I loved performing. But when I came out here everything really started to fall into place. And I’m really excited about that. How’d you go about landing a role on Nick Cannon’s Comedy Sketch show? How is it working with Nick? My first audition was for cartoon network. I sang and dance. I got a call back and then another call back. That time I performed in front of Nick and everyone. I played 3 characters that were improved with props. It was an honor to perform in front of Nick, a true comedic talent. It was such a rush. Then I got a call about 2 weeks later! It was super exciting. On the set we have so much fun. Nick is a really great mentor. He’s been in our shoes. He knows what we go through and helps us stay grounded. He reminds us that this a job and to keep that in mind. And to always stay humbled and have respect. But you can have fun doing pranks and sketches. It’s a blast!

16. | Young Celebrity News | www.youngcelebritynews.com | V.2 Issue 3

What are some of the behind the scenes funny moments when you’re on set? We have ton of funny moments. I love pranking people. First week, I hid outside the bathroom door when people went to bathroom. I had this crazy monster look and scared people! We also have a ping-pong table on set that we have fun playing. Tell us about your upcoming EP? What can your fans expect from it? I have an amazing team. Eddie Galan who is helping with the album is amazing! They can expect hot music with a country tang and a soulful emotional feel. My song “Some kind of fairytale” really describes myself. I really put my heart in what I want to do.

FAN SPOTLIGHT

This month’s “FAN SPOTLIGHT” goes to Noah! He got to see two of his favorite celebrities, Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan at Disney World in Orlando Florida with his friend Amy Lemley! On meeting the two stars, Noah had this to say about them: “They were so sweet and care so much for their fans. Michael even said he watches my Youtube Show and made me so happy.” Have you met one of your favorite celebrities? Send us a picture!

But all are apart of me. Really great experiences I’ve gone through. I cowrote a lot of songs. I don’t want a song that’s not fully me.
