Mission Possible Kids: Where Kids Change the World .

From helping in homeless shelters to sending care packages to troops overseas, the kids of the Mission Possible program are on a mission to save the world one step at a time. Mission Possible encourages their kids, titled “special agents” to donate their time and effort to volunteer for various charities including Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. As a non-profit organization, MP eagerly “helps children help” others as they learn the character and leadership skills to make an impact on their community as well as across the world. With over 1,000 kids in 22 states, Mission Possible’s “agents” have touched over 500,000 lives through their dedication to charity. Mission Possible’s creator and executive director, Kathy Meadows, was hoping a minimum of 20 kids would show up at MP’s first meeting in 2003 at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas. “We ended up having 160 kids show up that night ready to help!” says Kathy “, Churches across the country began calling me about the program. I realized this program was going to be much bigger then our own church.” After becoming a registered non-profit organization in 2006, Mission Possible branched out into a national program. Before hitting it big, MP started with Kathy’s son, Devin, who wanted to know how he could change the world. “Devin, now in high school,

was a four-year-old at the time when he started asking questions. At Christmas time, he began asking me why we give each other presents. I told him ‘God wants us to share our love to other people to show them how much we care,’” On Christmas Day, their family went door- to- door giving out hand-written Christmas poems. “This started an amazing reaction from people in our community. It had an impact on people who didn’t have anyone to share Christmas with.” What began as a simple gesture of kindness turned into Kathy’s inspiration for Mission Possible Kids. Reaching out to 67 countries and counting, Mission Possible’s “agents” are dedicated to spreading aid across the globe. Assisting other charities like the Disaster Recovery Program, MP kids have donated shoes and sewn pillows given to the victims of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. “We wanted to know ‘What can our kids do to help others?’” says Kathy, “Whether it’s back in the states or an international charity, we’ve created all kinds of projects to help others. “Agents” have collected shoes supplies to send to orphanages located in both Russia and India.” One of MP’s most known overseas ministries include their blue jean quilts; blankets sewn with gently used blue jeans, which are given to troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Germany. “When a soldier is wounded, they receive one of our quilts, which are inscribed with

“Get Well Soon” messages. It lets them know we haven’t forgotten them and what they do for us,” says Kathy Mission Possible hopes to branch out to the public school system anticipating a change in how kids view education as well as the entire world. On a not-so-secret mission, expect the “agents” at Mission Possible Kids to be the leaders of the next generation. ABC Essentials, LLC GIVING YOUR CHILD AN EDGE IN LIFE!

ABC Essentials is an educational program for children ages 6 and under. Parents are the first and best teachers for a child to have in their lives and ABC Essentials is here to promote parent / child bonding and give parents the proper teaching methods to teach their children the skills that they will need in years to come. They also offer a fun learning environment for you to work with your child once a week during a group setting. Group sessions are held on a weekly basis and last for about 45 minutes. Groups consist of 5 children and their Parents, grandparents, etc. Each group offers in-class activities and at the end of your child’s weekly group a card with several take home activities will be given to you with the subject matter that was discussed that week. At ABC Essentials they recognize the fact that children learn best through play and repetition, and take home activities are fun for you as a parent to be involved as well as repeat material for your child to be absorbing. Aimee Campbell and Jennifer Fanelli are the owners of this new and productive learning facility of Amarillo and they are both very dedicated to making this a success in the area. Jennifer is a wife and mother that grew up here in Amarillo and she has obtained a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling. She has enjoyed working with adults and children as a Professional Counselor since 2005. Aimee is also a mother and wife that grew up in the area. She attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology. She then earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling from West Texas A&M University. She also serves on the Head Start Policy Council Committee as a Community Representative. Both women are very determined in their aims to help other parents, such as you and I, to acquire skills to set the stage for our children’s future learning abilities. A child at the age of 2 years will learn a skill faster and have more use for it then a child of 10. 85% of a child’s learning ability is developed by the age of 5. ABC Essentials also offers birthday parties for children ages 6 and under and if they have enough notice (3 weeks or more) they can design a cirrculum based theme. Other themes are offered as well such as Astronaut Adventure, Barnyard Bash, Dress up Diva, Sun and Sand, Super Safari, Tea for Toddlers or you can create your own theme. Parties can accommodate up to eight children. Additional services available such as invitations, party favors, etc. If you want to provide your child with the best opportunities in life ABC Essentials is here to help. To enroll in classes or inquire about services please call 517-7748 or go by 4026 W. 51st, Suite B, Amarillo Texas. ~ Cherisa Felder

Learning Liberty A 13 Year Old’s Struggle With Lyme Disease

(Part 2 of a series. Please visit http://tolearnliberty. blogspot.com to follow this touching story of a a little girl who’s energy and health was zapped...but not her spirit.)

like dealing with a VERY arthritic person. Her left side seemed to be affected worse, including the amount of hair on one side, swelling in her left leg, and loss of use of her left hand. Tests were done to check for the possibility of strokes. We did a liver biopsy, a 24 hour iced urine sampling, and scariest of all, a lumbar puncture. The high resonance MRI, her fourth MRI-but first one with this high of a resonance, showed atrophy and necrosis of part of her brain. One Neurologist believed there to be deposits in her brain, another believed that part of her brain had just died. Still, no answers. After 14 days, and lots of, “well, it’s not....”, we were being released. Our main Doc was talking about the earliest case of Lupus or MS ever diagnosed. Neither of these diseases should have affected her cognitive functions. We pleaded to go home, as nothing further could be done until the genetic tests returned. We were scheduled to return on January 4th, regardless of how many tests had come back. The doctors nurse had asked me before we left if she was Baptized and if I had any Life Insurance…

Tests, tests and more tests......she had more blood tests than I have had in my 39 years. They were looking for anything. If one level was off, there was a team that would begin thinking it was one disease, but it never was conclusive. None of her tests were far enough off to point us in any real direction. A geneticist was brought in and starting talking about Wilson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s diseases. Liberty had been placed on Topamax, to help Her movements had become so slowed that it was with headaches and mood swings. I fought it, but

it is a low dosage and her headaches disappeared within days. Of course she is moody, only months before she could run, talk clearly and write amazingly creative stories; plus, she is a teenage girl. Her other med is a Parkinson’s drug, Sinemet, which masks some of her shaking. We saw several doctors over Christmas break. An eye specialist ordered some very odd tests; one for Cat scratch fever and another for Lyme disease. He sent us on to a Retina specialist who verified that she did indeed have a swollen right optic nerve. We still have no idea how this is pertinent. (Side note, with every new doctor, we told the story of the first seizure and our life outside. We asked repeatedly if any of this could have been caused by a chemical exposure or a bite.)

The Lyme disease test came back positive. THIS MAY BE THE NAME OF THE MONSTER, this was December 28. On December 29th, an amazing friend and mentor had helped to get us in to see the local doctor who specializes in Special Needs. He agreed that since nothing else had to fit, this had to be something that was chemical or related to a bite. More blood tests for my girl were ordered.

These tests returned with a terrible mix of low and high levels. Her system was all out of whack and her immune system was non-existent. Her milk protein level was at 79 when normal was 2. We began a cleansing process using Chlorella, very slowly. Our trip in January was cancelled, as we were going to try to go the natural route. We have now increased the Chlorella several times and decreased the Sinemet over the summer by half. She has awakened mentally a great deal over the summer. She has been on a steady diet of vitamin and mineral supplements and no dairy or pork since January. She continues with physical therapy, with OT and Speech therapy at school. Through our blog, http://tolearnliberty.blogspot. com, we have chronicled her journey. Everyday is different as her body fights through the build-up of toxins. I believe that she caught Lyme disease in 2007, which means that there are two years of poisons to get out of her body, not to mention the damage done to her nervous system and mental functions.
