The Music Scene | Live Music in Amarillo
Independent rap artist Soulja, cropped in Seattle, Washington is, audacious, dicey and full of attitude. Soulja is authentically unique, and out to respectably and hastily attain loyal fans. “I’m more eager to be heard, than to be paid, because I’m still looking to establish a solid ground with my fans.”-Soulja Starting in 2003 Soulja began his expedition down the skeptical roads of music. Beginning in a duo, “it was just something to do for fun around school and just having a hobby we could all enjoy. Over the years it has obviously become more, but I am constantly reminded of where I came from, over the last 7 years of my music.”-Soulja When asked what kind of childhood Soulja came from he responded with, “Not hell, but nothing glamorous. We never had money, so funding a dream at the age I started was near impossible. I toughed things out basically, and to this day I am still getting my feet under me.” Soulja has gotten to where he is now on his own without the help of a record lable, he wants to show the world that it can be done and done right. Soulja has worked with acts such as Krizz Kaliko and Tech N9ne of Strange Music records. Tell me in general about your journey, since you started what has it all been like? What has been the best and worst thing in the whole process? “I love the game, I love the music, I have found that over the time I have learned to be more cautious of what I do and who I work with, it is all about the moves you make in life. You have to make sure to keep things on common ground with everyone. You can usually see problems ahead of time, but sometimes you can’t. I have basically come to realize, it’s on you to make YOU happen.” –Soulja Soulja recently released his latest album, “MUSIQ IS RELIGION” in July of this year. When asked what his main inspiration was and what his lyrics are focused on he replied with, “Its just life, it’s about what’s real, I won’t bs no one. I do what I feel is a good way to express what I’m thinking or feeling, whether I am on the grind or going half way across the nation to rock shows. My music is where I’m at right now. Passion is my inspiration”. Soulja’s shows are full of energy and truth. When asked, what kind of things he thought about when he is on stage, Soulja replied with, “Mainly to get the place shaking, and to give the audience what they came to see. I feed off the crowd’s energy. It can get out of control if you are in the right spot. My favorite thing about shows is the fan interaction; I love it, being able to hear their side of things is nice, especially on the tours.” When asked what the biggest disaster at a show was Soulja responded with, “ it was in Bellingham, Washington we had a packed house, I was half way into my set, things were going good until my hype man orders all ladies to the stage, which they complied. However, after they all came rushing to the stage at once, someone clipped the wires and took out the venues lighting. The music kept rolling and we kept performing in pure darkness.” No matter what genre of music one prefers, Soulja’s performance cannot be missed, it is satisfying and energetic, if you are not a fan now you will be after. “I have fans who like Wayne, I have fans who like Tech N9ne, and I have fans who are Juggalos, it’s a open book honestly.” Be on the lookout, October 2010 Soulja is on the “Threat-2-Society Tour 2010”, so get out to a show.

Opened: October 1, 2010 Runtime: 2 hr. 1 min. | Rated: PG-13 Genres: Psychological DramaBiopic. Language, drug/alcohol use & sexual content In 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming wizard Mark Zuckerberg launched a website with the potential to alter the very fabric of our society. Despite Zuckerberg being six years away from making his first million, his personal life began to suffer as he became marred in legal disputes, and discovered many of the 500 million people he had friended during his rise to the top were eager to see him fall. At the top of that list was Zuckerberg’s former college friend Eduardo Saverin, whose generous financial contributions to Facebook served as the seed that helped the company to sprout. Some argue that Zuckerberg’s bold venture wouldn’t have evolved into the cultural juggernaut it ultimately became had Napster founder Sean Parker (played by Justin Timberlake) not spread the word about Facebook to the venture capitalists. Meanwhile, the Winklevoss twins engage Zuckerberg in a fierce courtroom battle for ownership of Facebook that left many suspecting the young entrepreneur may have let his greed eclipse his better judgment. Based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich O C TO B E R 2 010

Understanding wine is similar to how one understands art. Most all of the same questions are asked. Who made it? How and where was it made? What type is it? How old is it? Like art, wine can evoke a passion of the senses but no one has to earn the title “connoisseur” to understand a good drink. You can swish the glass, whiff the aroma, and check for a wine’s good “pair of legs.” Most importantly, an acquired taste through the trialand-errors of wine-tasting always helps. You just have to try it. All art is worth a second glance just as every glass of wine is worth a taste. For a savory experience, try these local wine bars. Crush Wine Bar & Deli 701 South Polk Street If you love wine, you might develop a crush on Crush Wine Bar & Deli. With 50 by-the-glass selections and over 300 bottle selections, Crush offers a flavorful range of both red and white wine. The 2008 Saldo Zinfandel from Orin Swift Cellars delivers a strong “mid-palate” to the taste buds. (In wine lingo, mid-palate refers to the aftertaste or lingering sensation the wine leaves on the mid-section of the tongue.) Beers from regional breweries include the velvety Tenfidy and Southern Star pale ale. Dine inside the café or on the patio “al fresco.” Crush Wine Bar & Deli now also offers downtown delivery from 11am to 6pm. Learn more about “Wine 101” at their Saturday night wine-tastings. Ambition, friendship and betrayal. Blogging and coding into action scenes! Even if you have never logged on to Facebook, you can still get caught up in the way this movie looks at all the issues that involve social status to creating an empire from nothing and making a few enemies on the way. The Social Network is a must see movie. It holds true to its movie trailer that leaves you wanting more. You can definitely come out of this movie motivated from all its clever quotes on how to take success into your own hands and make it happen. In a sense it was cool to see the technological revolution on the rise and how far it has come since then. Cinematic triumph... Two thumbs up!

Their menu includes international varieties from traditional types of wine; from New Zealand Pinot Noirs to premium Italian Zinfandels. Dessert wines, a type of sweet wine best sipped with dessert, and port are diner favorites. Macaroni Joe’s also prides itself with staffing Rick Alley, one of West Texas’ only experienced and certified Sommeliers (wine specialist). --Rachel Currie

Uli and I are both computer geeks so we couldn’t wait for this movie to come out! Even people that don’t use FaceBook have at least heard of it. FaceBook has become the norm for people to communicate with family, find old friends, network and meet new people. But to see that it was created by a socially inept Harvard computer programmer/blogger who just wanted to fit in was fascinating. Zuckerberg, the creator of FaceBook, was such a genius/geek that he got so sucked into the “idea” of making friends and being noticed that he actually dehumanized people by seeing them as numbers and computer algorithms. He definitely got the recognition he was looking for at the cost of his real friends and two huge lawsuits. This is a MUST SEE! O C TO B E R 2 010
