Hi & welcome to our March Issue Its almost that time of year again when our fluffy tailed friend comes to visit! Do your children get excited at the thought of gifts being left by the magical bunny? I think Ollie started talking about him a week after Christmas! The Easter bunny leaves our presents outside and the fun the 3 boys have in the morning searching all over the backyard for them is gorgeous. Big through to small - all love the hunt of the Easter eggs!! In this issue there is an article “Easter - Fattening or Fruitful” that gives us some insight around Easter and some of the traditions that we have with it. We also have a great recipe inside for Coconut & Lime Easter Bunny cupcakes. They are very cute, super fun to make and taste amazing!! Diamond Creek Traders are also having their annual Easter Egg Hunt so be sure to check out the details on page 2 and most importantly when the maps goes on sale. We are also heading towards the first school holidays for the year. With 2 drop offs most mornings now I think I might be looking forward to a mini break in the routine. As the boys get older life gets busier and there is always somewhere we have to be or something that needs to be done. It got me thinking that we not the only family like this and Im sure all the rushing around is not good at times. An article that really grabbed my attention is on page 18 “When To Treat Anxiety In Children” Anxiety is something that has affected our family and the control that it can have on a person can be debilitating and frustrating. The article has been written by a physiologist with many years experience and has some great points, information and advice. I hope that you get to put your feet up with a cuppa or a wine and read this months issue. Be sure to check out our advertisers for something to do, see or buy for you or someone you love. If you're looking for a new sport or activity for your child see what free offers and bonuses our advertisers have for new students. Take care and enjoy the last month of summer!

Dig Dig Digging!! Children and construction buffs will have a front row seat in the Easter school holiday, during a 44 day construction blitz on the Hurstbridge Rail Line. An Easter construction blitz will transform areas of Melbourne's north east by removing the level crossing on Lower Plenty Road in Rosanna and the crossing on Grange Road in Alphington as well as duplicating a section of track between Rosanna and Heidelberg. To get this mammoth task done in 44 days, more than 1,000 construction workers will rely on excavators, dump trucks, cranes and other machinery to get the job done – heaven for kids who love watching diggers. Each of the three sites will provide a different type of work to watch - excavation with diggers and dump trucks in Alphington; cranes building a new rail bridge and station in Rosanna; and tunnelling and track-laying works in Heidelberg. To ensure the local community can come along for a ride, designated safe viewing areas will be set up at each site, where interested onlookers are encouraged to view the works at any time, take photos and be part of the action. During designated times, children will also be able to dress up in high viz, try on a hard hat and have their photo taken, while parents and carers chat with the experts and have their questions answered. While the children will be entertained by the construction spectacle, local cafes in Rosanna,

8

Heidelberg and Alphington are open and ready to serve coffees to mums and dads. To facilitate the removal of two level crossings, build a new Rosanna Station and duplicate a 1.2km section of track, buses will replace trains on parts of the Hurstbridge Line from 16 March until 29 April. Keep an eye on the Level Crossing Removal Authority Facebook page to discover when the areas will be manned and the best viewing opportunities. Fast facts: Around 27,000 cubic metres of soil will be excavated from under Grange Road in Alphington during the 44-day construction blitz to enable the train line to be lowered under the road. Around 1,000 people will work around the clock for 44 days to remove level crossings at Grange Road in Alphington and Lower Plenty Road in Rosanna, duplicate a 1.2 km section of train track and build a new Rosanna Station. At the end of the blitz (Monday 30 April), the brand-new Rosanna Station will be open for use. To make way for 1.2-kilometre track duplication currently under construction between Heidelberg and Rosanna, a specialised excavator will operate around the clock for more than four months to excavate the equivalent of more than 3,700 cubic metres of from underneath Darebin Street. The duplication will also open at the end of April, reducing a bottleneck on the Hurstbridge Line. by Stephanie Nicholls @ Level Crossing Removal Authority

LOYOLA RESERVE PLAYGROUND Gleeson Drive BUNDOORA In my search to find new parks to share with you I come across this one tucked away and in between Watsonia & Bundoora. I have to admit that when we first arrived I was a little disappointed but the longer we stayed the more we found - we just had to look beyond the obvious. The play equipment is a little dated and its not big compared with what we have visited before but there was enough to keep Ollie happily playing for a while. It’s made up of 2 structures ideal for younger and older kids. Both have a slide, and many climbing options with a wall and mat plus bridges and steps, shop window, binoculars, a set of swings plus a springer. Its located next to a baseball field, great for a game of tiggy. There is also a half court basketball court too. The park has shaded seats, a BBQ, water tap and toilets. As it’s located amongst Pine & Gum trees its like a mini forest and this is when we started to have a little adventure! First we were being watched and then we were watching them - the local pink and grey Galahs! We couldn’t get too close but it was lovely watching them go about there daily forage. We left with a few token sticks for Louie our dog and pine cones that will no doubt roll around the back of the car for a few days along with a white feather. No adventure is complete without trophies!!

Changing of the Guard on the Mobile Library 2018 marks a changing of the guard on Yarra Plenty Regional Library's much-loved Mobile Library service. For over 40 and 35 years respectively, Mobile Library drivers Alan Hatty and Paul Ross have been visiting stops in Banyule, Nillumbik and Whittlesea Councils to ensure that almost 2000 members in those communities have access to books, DVDs, magazines and library services. The Mobile Library, a 20-metre long articulated vehicle, has long responded to the needs of its community, such as in 2009 when the Mobile Library visited Whittlesea to ensure locals had access to electricity and internet services in the aftermath of the Black Saturday bushfires. In March 2018, Alan and Paul are retiring, and their combined 75 years' experience working for Yarra Plenty Regional Library as Mobile Library drivers will be a hard act to follow. It's a challenge that YPRL's two new mobile drivers are excited to step up to – and one driver will not have far to go for advice: Melony Hatty is the daughter of retiring driver Alan Hatty, keeping the Mobile Library firmly in the family! The new era of YPRL's Mobile Library has been heralded in with a significant refurbishment that has the vehicle sporting a vibrant new look and improved facilities. Its new design is eye-catching and certainly stands out on the busy roads of

14

Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs. YPRL's Mobile Library services 14 locations for communities in Banyule, Nillumbik and Whittlesea Councils. Everyone is welcome to visit the state of the art Mobile Library to borrow any of the 10,500+ items in stock, including an extraordinary range of books, DVDs, magazines, audiobooks and large print publications. Look out for the Mobile Library on your streets!
