EditorsLetter Welcome to the July Edition of Your Child in Whittlesea, Well, it is cold out now and I just want to stay home and stay warm! However, life goes on and school holidays are back again and we again need to find ways to keep the little ones busy. I think we will be getting out the Lego because some rebuilding needs to be done. I have also found lots of craft activities that I think my children have been collecting for the past 13 years ... so these holidays we need to make and build all items. Its amazing what you can find hiding in the cupboards! This months magazine has some great reading, on page 10, you will find some information for parents who are tackling toilet training. There is an entertaining article about The ‘Art’ of Packing, on page 20 and Music is FUN, can be found on page 14. On page 16 you will find a interesting article Personal Possessions Mean a Lot to Children. This month Hanging with Hannah is doing another throw back to Lorne Park and Playground in Lalor. The park is an amazing place to take the kids for some fresh air, when you have been couped up inside for too long. Even with the cold weather you can still rug up and enjoy the short bursts of Winter sunshine. Hanging with Hannah can be found on page 8. Kids Corner is on page 25 and there is a fun Winter Finder Word to do and if you are looking for a holiday activity why not try making some Bath Paint with your little one, the instructions can be found on page 26. Kids Cooking Time this month is celebrating Christmas in July with Mini Chef Tyler is making Yummy Chocolate Crackle Plum Puddings, on page 27. Why not give them a go with the kids over the holidays! Don’t forget to check out What’s On, page 22. There is lots happening in the Local Area this month - Baseline has School Holiday Programs, The Maples Early Learning Centre is running a fundraising day to Fight MMD and The Council is hosting National Tree Planting Day.

Parentmedic Victoria works within their local community to empower parents, grandparents and carers of young children with the skills and knowledge to not only respond in an emergency situa on but also iden fy the medical red flags associated with an unwell child and preventa ve strategies they can implement in an a empt to prevent an emergency situa on from occurring, Parentmedic Victoria believes that every child deserves to be loved and supported in a safe home environment but are well aware that research indicates that accidental injuries are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality with the majority of these occurring in or near the home. Parentmedic Victoria believes the best way to help reduce this sta s c is through e d u c a o n a n d empowerment so that families can help themselves. Parentmedic Victoria's sessions are only 2 hrs further cemen ng their claim to be baby and child friendly. The sessions allow enough me to cover the key topics without pushing the friendship with li le ones or even their pregnant mumma’, because w e a l l k n o w h o w uncomfortable being stuck in one spot for too long is.

Lorne Park David Street, Lalor

20 This months throw back park has Hannah visi ng Lorne Park and Playground on a very windy winters day. Hannah really enjoyed the amount of play equipment that was available at the park. She was having so much fun i didn’t think she would ever leave! The playground offers a basket swing, swing set, a large spinner, 6 different slides, a see-saw, 2 rockers and mul ple climbing frames for different age groups. This is a play space suitable for all ages. The park also has a half basket ball court for older children. Other facili es include 2 undercover areas with tables and chairs, a couple of park benches, 2 drinking fountains and bins. However, again this park does not offer toilets and there is no BBQ. *Tip from Hannah - when it is windy, remember to always e long hair up and don’t wear a hat!

Bath Paint Ingredients 1/4 cup baby shampoo or body wash 1/4 cup corn starch 1-2 tablespoons of water Food colouring Add cornstarch to a mixing bowl Follow with shampoo/body wash & mix to combine Add water a tablespoon at a time until mixture is thick enough to stick to paint brush without being to runny. If it gets too runny, add more cornstarch, too thick, add more water. Divide mixture if you want more than 1 colour . (You could use - paint trays, jars, ice tray or even a mufﬁn tin) Add food colouring to make your colours. You only need a few drops! Hand it over to your little artist and watch the fun!!

Good for the shower or the bath. It’s even been used to help wash the car too!!

s d i K king Co o i m e T Chocolate Crackle Plum Puddings with Tyler Ingredients 4 cups Rice Bubbles 1 cup Icing Sugar 1 cup Desiccated Coconut 3 tbs Cocoa T250g Copha White Chocolate Melts Spearmint Leaves and Jaﬀas

Method Step 1 - Place pa y pans into pa y pan tray. Step 2 - Combine Rice Bubbles, icing sugar, desiccated coconut and mix. Step 3 - Melt Copha on the stove and leave to cool. Then add to dry mixture and mix. Step 4 - Scoop mixture into pa y pans. Step 5 - Place in refrigerator to set. Step 6 - Melt chocolate in microwave and dribble on to chocolate crackles. The add holly detail with spearmint leaves and Jaﬀas.
