Hi & welcome to our July Issue!! Here we are at another school holidays - I feel like these ones have come around so fast! The boys don’t think so though, they believe they take “foreverrrr” (insert groaning voices!) With all of them at school now I really do look forward to the break and spending time together. We’re planning on a visit to Sydney to see my sister and their cousins in the first week. Just me and the boys - driving to Sydney - how hard could it be? They all want to take the dog Louie too but I think I might have to draw the line there! School holidays usually means lots of money spent on keeping the kids entertained but we’re so lucky with what’s on around us that’s either free or low cost. You should check out the local library for details of the activities they have scheduled for the two weeks. Greensborough Plaza has a Winter Wonderland with a Ice Skating Rink open daily from 10am until 3pm plus other activities. In Bundoora at Inflatable World you can book in your child for a 3 hour program for only $25! They have a café there too! At the Ivanhoe Hotel every Sunday (12pm - 3pm) is Family Funday with free kids entertainment, half price kids meals & free kids desserts - winning!! Plus we’re spoilt with the amount of playgrounds we have locally if you want to get them outside to burn off some energy. This month we reviewed Malahang Reserve in Heidelberg West. It’s such a fantastic playground with plenty to do for everyone - play equipment, basketball court, skate park, plenty of seating area undercover and BBQ’s. You can check out our review on page 10 in “Out and About”. Just remember pack a towel incase it’s been raining to wipe down any wet equipment or to dry off if it rains. Out and About MALAHANG RESERVE Oriel Road HEIDELBERG WEST
This playspace has something for everyone and will suit families of all ages. Set out over a huge area it consists of a well spaced playground, full basketball court, a skate park with a junior ramp, a second ramp area for kids that are more experienced and a double bowl for the thrill seekers! There is also a dirt BMX track with hills if bikes are more their thing. In the play area there is a double flying fox, a big double peaked spider web to climb, a birds nest swing big enough for 2 or 3 and there is a second flying fox with a harness too. The main play structure resembles a big ship and has ramps, slides, tunnels & climbing steps to

move around on. There is also a second smaller boat structure for toddlers, ramps to run up and down, a swing set, spinners, a surf board, 2 tyre swings, a large see saw, spinning cup & a separate double slide. Plenty of play equipment for everyone to play and paths to ride along! The space has 2 covered picnic areas that include tables & chairs, BBQ’s and plenty of seating throughout the area. Public toilets are close by along with drinking fountains to quench your busy kids thirsts. Remember to pack snacks & a coffee for yourself because you will be there for some time. As the saying goes - time flies when you're having fun!!

In The Kitchen Ready to eat in under 20 minutes
Banana & Oat Pancakes Ingredients · · · · · ·
2 bananas 2 eggs 1/2 cup rolled oats 1/2 teaspoon baking powder pinch of salt Optional topping to serve: - maple syrup to serve - sliced fresh fruit such as banana or strawberries - frozen berries (warmed)

Method 1. Using a blender combine the banana, eggs, oats, baking powder and salt. 2. Blend until mixture is the smooth consistency you like - making sure all ingredients are combined. Leave the batter to stand for around 15 minutes until it thickens slightly. 3. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. 4. Fry spoonfuls of the batter until golden brown on both sides. 5. Serve with a drizzle of maple syrup and fruit of your choice.

Native Birdseed Cookies What you will need: - 2 packets of gela n - 1/2 cup cold water - 1/2 boiling water - 2 tablespoons glucose syrup - 2 & 1/2 cups Na ve birdseed - cookie cu ers - straws - baking paper - twine
How to make Birdseed Cookies Mix 2 packets of gela n with 1/2 cup of cold water un l dissolved. Add a 1/2 cup of boiling water to the bowl, s r slowly un l dissolved. Next add 2 tablespoons of glucose syrup. S r un l dissolved. Mix in the bird seed. Keep mixing un l the gela n/glucose syrup mixture evenly coats each seed. Let this rest for a couple of minutes if the mixture seems watery. Spoon the seed mixture into the cookie cu ers fill the cookie cu ers about half way and use a small piece of baking paper to press the seeds firmly into the mould. Then fill the cookie cu er to the top and press again. Press the straw into the birdseed cookie, making a hole. Be sure to leave plenty of room between the straw and the edge. Place the birdseed filled cookie cu ers in the refrigerator to set overnight. Once set, remove the cookie cu ers by gently pushing at the edges un l they fall away, leaving the birdseed cookie. Push the straws out and thread twine through the hole. They’re now ready to hang!!
