Hi & welcome to our February Issue Wishing you a Happy New Year - I hope 2018 is an amazing year for you and your family! Have you made any resolutions this year? Are you like me and think of all these fantastic resolutions only to forget what you had promised to do by week 2 or do you stick with it? This year I decided not to make any. Well truth be told I just forgot. I was away with our boys with my sister and her 5 children and it was busy. Two mums and 8 kids aged from 4 through to 13 so we didn’t have much down time to ponder what we would like to change in the new year - lol! But being with family was a great way to start the year. They live in NSW so spending time together is always precious although sometimes a little loud, messy and chaotic - but still precious! And so another year of school starts, much to the devastation of most older kids (mine groan so loudly when I mention school) and to the joy of most parents! For those starting the school and kinder journey good luck and enjoy, it a gorgeous time seeing them grow and their minds expand with all the new information they will learn. But remember they are still little and will find the first days long so meltdowns will probably happen - its all just part of it. Ollie is starting Pre-School this year and I think I’m most looking forward to the friendships that he will make. Having 2 older brothers and a constant flow of kids coming and going I think he will be bursting with excitement when he can have his own first real friend play date! We have a few articles inside along the theme of Back to School including ways to have a calm transition back with “Back To School Mellow”. There’s also “Back To School - A Teachers Perspective” that is something that I hadn’t thought of . It's a lovely article and makes you realise why some people become teachers. We also have one on bullying, which is something I hope you don’t have to deal with but unfortunately some families do - “How To Spot It, Stop It and Prevent It” which is written by a Parenting Coach and has some great points and tips. Out and About
HARRY POTTAGE RESERVE Cnr. Glenmore & Wungan Street MACLEOD Located within walking distance to the Macleod YMCA and train station this playground is perched above bushland and trails and has some fun equipment to discover. Consisting of a main structure with 2 slides, monkey bars and a climber, hanging disks, shop window for imaginary play, ramps and landings to climb and jump from as well as a vertical rope web and a log roll to run run run on! There’s also 2 sets of swings which is great when there are more visitors plus 2 rocking animals. Just beyond the play area is an impressive long wavey metal slide - resting on the hill with steps to race back up the top - a sure winner to tire them out!! And if your kids are into basketball like mine they will be happy to know there is a half court there too so remember to pack a ball. A great park to also take a scooter or bike to so your kids can take advantage of the trails. Or maybe just go on a walking adventure. You will find plenty of seats around for resting and a drinking tap too. Although the area isn’t covered with a shade there is a rotunda if you did want to take a break from the sun. The only real negative is that there is no toilets at the park and the closest bathroom would be at the YMCA down the road. But don’t let this deter you as I still think it's a great one to visit. I hope you enjoy some fun there too!

In The Kitchen This is a great recipe to use up leftover cereals & makes treats to pack in the lunch boxes! We tried Milo Flakes first try but they were too sweet. So depending on what is in your pantry you may want to adjust the sugar. I also found putting them in the fridge helped to firm them up before cutting them. Enjoy!!
Leftover Cereal Bars Ingredients · 4 Cups Cereal · 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar · 125g Melted Butter
Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees (160 fan forced) and line a 20cm square tin with baking paper. Set aside. 2. Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl 3. Combine the wet ingredients in a separate bowl and pou into the dry ingredients and mix well
· 3 tbsp Honey
4. Press the mixture into the pan
· 1/2 Cup Coconut
5. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown
· 1 tbsp Golden Syrup
6. Remove from the pan when cool drizzle with melted chocolate (if using) and cut into bars or squares
· Choc Chips melted - optional
