Hi & welcome to our July issue Here we go heading into another school holidays - I feel like they have come around fast! My boys don’t think the same, they believe they take “foreverrrr” (insert little groaning voices!) I’m planning on taking them to lots of parks and getting outside - come rain, hail or shine. I certainly don’t want to spend my time couped up inside with cabin fever kids - I’m sure you all know what I mean! We will being heading back to the park we featured this month on page 10 - Binnak Park in Watsonia. It was fantastic and Max (middle child) said it was one of the best he had been to. We will probably have a few lunch dates and catch up with friends at local cafes. The boys will always order a smoothie, if they are on the menu. If this is a favourite with your family too then you need to take a look at the recipes on page 20. Degani in Diamond Creek have supplied one of there most popular smoothie recipes for you to make at home. Degani’s are also giving away a $50 voucher this month and to be in the running to get your hands on it you just need to head on over to our Facebook page. There may also be some more science experiments to try out, if we do feel the need to stay home! Ollie is loving them and the look on his face during the whole process is just gorgeous. Cooper and Max usually miss out because they are at school so they will no doubt be happy to be part of our science fun too. In “Kids Corner” this month Ollie had some fun with Skittles and at the end he got to eat them - win win for him! This month we welcome Robinsons Bookstore to our magazine. We will now have a regular “Book Corner” each month with some book reviews of new releases. We have a book giveaway this month for 1 lucky reader. To win a copy go to our Facebook page for detail. As always I hope you enjoy this months magazine and I wish you a great July. Take care and rug up!!

Binnak Park Anderson Parade WATSONIA I was so impressed and a little suprised by how great this park is. I grew up not far from there and had memories of an old playground near the football oval. That playground is still there but further along and set up on the rise is a newer play space that we happily played at for over 2 hours! Driving off the road into a generous car park you will find the well spaced area. The main structure has numerous climbing features including a rock wall, ladder with a firemen pole, stepping steps and a rope bridge to test out abilities. All the effort is rewarded at the top with an enclosed spiral slide. In this zone there are also monkey bars, balance steps, a web structure to climb and a nest swing. For the younger kids (or less adventurous) there’s a smaller web and a separate lower structure with bars and ropes to master and build confidence. Within the area there’s also swings, spinners, a large see saw, animal rockers and 2 mini slides resting on a little hill. This park also has plenty of tracks if you want to take

10

bikes or scooters. There’s seating spotted around and 2 sets of BBQ’s (one that’s under cover) water taps and toilets. But it doesn’t stop at there! If you walk past the playground beyond the car park and head down the hill you will come across some wetlands, bridges and resident ducks. The enjoyment my boys got out of playing amongst it all was fantastic! Finding feathers and gathering sticks and chatting to the ducks; it was like the icing on a cake and the perfect end to our day. On a side note: If you are planning on a visit to the ducks there are signs asking people not to feed the ducks - although I’m not so sure that the ducks have got this memo yet!

Do you sometimes feel pressured by the burden of trying to be everything to everyone? Do you struggle with the task of being a mother to children, a lover to a partner, and a woman true to yourself? Kiley Baker, a local mother of 3, business owner, martial artist and published author shares with us her top 4 tips for getting it all done! Often whilst training my clients and having discussions with my members, I would find myself talking about the same topics, and would regularly be asked how I managed to do all the things I do. I set about writing a book to help other women in a very simple way – to realise that it is possible to be all the things to all the people by not trying to be perfect. My book is honest and quite an easy read, and there are no complicated steps to this and that…just my story…and some tips that I have put together through years of experiences that may help others to achieve their goals. Here is a sneak peak of my book in the form of my 4 top tips!

1) Embrace Perfect imperfection

2) Design your Destiny

Understand that there is no such thing as perfection. It's all a matter of perception when you really break it down. When we see ourselves through the measure of a standard that we cannot achieve, it's easy to see why we can become self-critical and fall into feeling like we aren't succeeding when actually we are. Studies show that when we feel like we aren't capablewe are more inclined to give up and not try – and so a vicious circle can develop. Discover where your idea's about perfection come from. Change your self-made 'rules' about the standards you are trying to adhere to in terms of your house cleaning, your work and career, your body shape and weight, your partner and your hobbies etc. Make some wants and needs lists and get clear on what is truly necessary and important- and what you can let go of. Once you make these discoveries….relax some rules- tighten others and learn to live according to this new list that is enough to make you feel satisfied.

How many people actually plan out their future? It's easy then to see why many women then are frustrated at feeling like they are missing out on something. That they are happy to be home looking after kids- or indeed at work with their children in care, but that there is that nagging sensation that ' if only' or 'one day I will…..” but that day never comes. It's important if you want to reach a destination that you have an idea or goal. Equally important is a plan as without this……a dream will remain a dream. Write down your dreams no matter how crazy – make a vision board or a written plan. Take action (no matter how small the steps at first) as often the next step reveals itself only by taking the first. I like to tell other people my intentions. For me it's then been put out there into the world – and I don't like to go back on my word- so I will always be driven to fulfil what I have said I would. I also find that by talking about the things I would like to achieve…..coincidences occur that help me get

3) Build Your Team This point is so simple it will seem silly. Surround yourself with those people that you most want to be like. If you can't do that- then surround yourself with people with the same dreams and ideals. Positivity is contagious- but so is negativity. Choose your friends wisely and move on from people that make you feel less about yourself. Family can be tricky – we can't choose them however we do have control over how much time we spend with them – and we can limit interactions or kindly state ground rules. Choose your health care providers by watching how they help your health and looking at theirs & learn about alternative options. Know who can turn to when you need advice for health, fitness, mentorship, emotional support and sometimes just a good old chinwag and a laugh. Make sure you know who's got your back.

4) Find Your Inner Warrior My journey through martial arts has been one of the most profound influences on my life. It has

indeed built most of the foundations of my determination to succeed and the lessons learnt through it have held me in good stead when life has gotten tough. I don't suppose that everyone needs to be a martial artist, however I do know without a shadow of a doubt that you must look after your strength of body and mind – and part of that is through physical challenge, and passion and purpose. Find something that pushes you. That shows you your weaknesses and allows you to build them into strengths. Find something that makes you fight for what you believe in – and makes you want to get out of the bed in the morning. You must do this for you. It's not selfish…and remember who's watching ! I know it's simple stuff – but life really is simple. It's only us that complicates it. Eat right. Exercise. Give and accept love. Get enough sleep and follow your passion. That's it really. There's this and more in my book which you can order here www.motherloverwomanwarrior.com.au
